I was once offered by a salesman for a beauty prod company a new product that he assured me would reduce cellulite and fat deposits if I rubbed it in my difficult areas regularly...I quickly declined as it was rather expensive for a 50 ml tube...He did not seem to understand me as it went a very long way and lasted a very long time....But it was the initial outlay that I could not afford...To reduce fat in my difficult areas I would need to fill a barrel and sit in it....

But may try the washing up liquid that sounds a lot more economical and I can fill the shower tray with the dishes at the same time ...save money ..save water..and maybe in time SAVE THE PLANET..

glassortwo Thu 03-May-12 12:35:23

susie well done, you are not far away from your target and it is more difficult. If you are having a balanced diet I dont imagine that it would kick in your excema, maybe unrelated but your multivits will straighten any kinks

alison just be strong wink plan ahead and save yourself for when you know the chance of falling of the rails is possible. Enjoy wink

AlisonMA Thu 03-May-12 12:04:21

Thanks sbasmile I've got a really sociable 4 days now so will need all the self control I can muster, difficult for one who understands Oscar Wilde's well knon @i Can resist anything except temptation!'

susiecb Thu 03-May-12 10:31:03

Oops been a biit absent this week getting new lap top set up. Only lost half a pound and am a bit worried about a new excema break out which I havent had in years. Could it be the diet? Am I missing something? Started a multivitamin complex today just in case - all suggestions welcome.

Sbagran Wed 02-May-12 19:05:02

There's only so much self-control a girl can muster Alison - your self-control over the chocolate cakes is to be HIGHLY commended!
Well done! One little slip up doesn't ruin everything so put it behind you and forward march! smile Good luck!

AlisonMA Wed 02-May-12 17:16:39

Just eaten something I shouldn't and feel so guilty. Don't want to get on the scales now. But I made 2 chocolate cakes and decorated one for a birthday and didn't eat any of that at all, didn't even lick a spoon! I must be really contrary!

glassortwo Wed 02-May-12 12:42:39

I will be spending my day in the shower Sba grin

AlisonMA Wed 02-May-12 12:38:00

sba Love it, needed a laugh as I am just making a cake to a friend's recipe and it looks all wrong. Now I'll smile when I make the replacement!

I've never heard of vasovage and didn't have those symptoms at all so do hope you find the cause. Do please keep us informed.

Sbagran Tue 01-May-12 22:06:07

Thanks glass - on a lighter note I received this important information today - it could be the reason why some of us simply cannot lose weight???

Shampoo Warning : I don't know WHY I didn't figure this out sooner!

I use shampoo in the shower.
When I wash my hair, the shampoo runs down my whole body, and printed
very clearly on the shampoo label is this warning :
"FOR EXTRA VOLUME AND BODY."

No wonder I have been gaining weight!

Well! I have got rid of that shampoo and I am going to start showering
with Dawn dishwashing soap instead as its label reads :

"DISSOLVES FAT THAT IS OTHERWISE DIFFICULT TO REMOVE."

Everyone down the shops in the morning grin

glassortwo Tue 01-May-12 19:02:36

sba its all relevant to your weight loss and as I have said before it for everyone to post anything they need wink just need to get you sorted.

Sbagran Tue 01-May-12 18:55:35

Thank you AlisonMA and Annobel for your advice. I am fortunate in having a good GP so I will bear what you have both said in mind and definitely keep on at him if things don't improve after my holiday.
Although I am about a stone over my 'ideal' weight (why I use this thread every week!) I am not overly concerned yet - and I stress 'Yet'
I know AlisonMA is new to GN so you are probably not aware of my medical history of vasovagel (not sure of spelling) episodes - basically for some unknown reason my BP will suddenly drop to the floor and I follow it if I don't react immediately. I had two episodes in one afternoon in early March and it seems I haven't completely recovered from that day. Normally for the first 24hrs I am exhausted, the next couple of days just a bit below par, but after that back to normal.
This was the first time I had ever had two episodes in the same day and my GP seems to feel that it is probably a combination of two in one day, possibly more severe than previous episodes, plus being a bit run down anyway. Hopefully my holiday and a bit of sunshine will be all that is needed!
Thank you both - I am really grateful for your suggestions flowersflowers
Does anyone have any other suggestions of a preferably drug/chemical free tonic that gives your energy a boost?
Sorry, sorry, sorry glass we have deviated big time from the weigh-in thread blush

Annobel Tue 01-May-12 17:31:24

If you always feel tired, sba, the thyroid could easily be the culprit. I was once going through a very dopey phase which almost caused my demise on the M6. When I had the blood test, it turned out that I needed to take thyroxin which, over the years has escalated to 100mcg and now seems to have plateaued.

AlisonMA Tue 01-May-12 17:20:18

sba Please push them on the thyroid. I felt low for years and put on weight and they decided I was depressed. I saw an endocrynologist who said I was fat and ate too much. He reported that I had a 'multi-nodule, partly retro-sternal thyroid' but said it was working OK. I soldiered on for years and then went back to see someone privately and he checked on that 'partly retro-sternal thyroid' and discovered it had grown to be huge in my chest cavity and that I might die if they didn't take it out straight away! It was a very serious operation which took 4 hours but I am fine now and have to take thyroxin every day for the rest of my life. It seems that thyroxin is the drug least likely to cause side effects. The thyroid tests are not accurate at all and still come back a bit wonky but I have a good GP who is happy to let me take what makes me feel OK.

I lost 3 stone after my thyroid was removed. It wasn't just taking the pills, I felt so much better and fitter that I could do more and had the will power to diet.

Good luck!

glassortwo Tue 01-May-12 16:22:14

Fantastic news sba but take your time getting back into the flow of things smile

Sbagran Tue 01-May-12 15:51:36

Right folks, stand back sba is back on the warpath of weight! shockshockshock
I am delighted to say that all the blood tests show nothing sinister except that the thyroid one was a bit 'iffy' and has to be repeated in 3 months. GP can't understand why I am so exhausted except possible 'seasonal depression'!!! I just have to be aware that the episodes may be starting up again but not let them run my life. smile
I am going on holiday at the end of May so we are hoping that a break plus (hopefully!!!) fine weather will buck me up. He suggested I go back to the gym/swim but only do half of my usual programme, so I went today. All went ok - tired now but that's to be expected. Will go again Thursday and see what happens! The Race for Life is just over two weeks away so I need to increase my stamina if I can! hmm
My Sunday weigh-in throughout all these weeks of being a bit 'under par' and decreased activity has fluctuated only by ounces between 165 and 165.6lbs - weird really as with the forced sitting around you would think weight would have crept on?
Hopefully gradually getting back into the gym/swim will start to show progress on the weight-loss road?
Good luck to all fellow losers - sew I feel so sorry for you as it's horrible when you are in pain and you don't see progress. Hang on in there - we are all here to support you flowers

alison try to use one cal spray light instead of oil, & butter drink lots of water it does work.

raggy never mind hope you had a good time with the family, new week just go for it.

raggymac Mon 30-Apr-12 18:29:10

I've stayed the same- due,I think, to a sociable time yesterday with the family which included TWO chocolate brownies . Sent my son and family home with the leftovers so no excuses left!

Well done those of you who have lost- it's a hard slog.

AlisonMA Mon 30-Apr-12 13:24:49

Thanks Glass. How do you manage to keep up with everyone?

My husband now does all the cooking which makes it difficult as he looks so hurt if I leave anything but I am gradually persuading him to reduce the portions and we now use smaller plates. Because he now cooks there is no point me joining one of the groups as he wouldn't cook the approved meals.

We have a very sociable time coming up so not sure I'll be able to resist.

glassortwo Mon 30-Apr-12 13:02:45

sew its difficult when your knee is restricting you getting out and about but try to resist the chocolate [GRIN], as you say the more you put on the extra strain it is on your knee, I know its hard try to keep busy, find a good book that will divert your attention. wink

notso 4 weeks smile we have to get out there and shake those last few pounds off before your holidays, you can do it smile

Well done when another 1lb. Nice to find the items hidden in the back of our wardrobes that now fit. smile

grannya congratulations to DD, you have done well to loose after celebrating. Enjoy your few days with WM see you when you get back, oh shopping for wedding clothes how lovely. sunshine

Well done grace keep at it smile

green whatever works for you, only change it if its broken wink

butter you will get some off for the wedding, your first week you will probably have a greater loss as you loose the extra fluid we carry around, but over 4 weeks if you are careful you could loose at least half a stone. Let me know if you need a hand with anything. smile

alison it is best to take it off gently as the slower it comes off the better it is for you and then you are more able to keep it off. Your first week you will always loose more, then the recommended loss per week is 1 - 1 1/2lb per week. Some of us on here do Slimming World, Weight Watchers or just stick to their own method of calorie counting. This link may be able to help with the calories in different food, but there are numerous sites which offer a similar service. smile good luck

Hi everyone. I just joined Granset lask week and this thread is very timely as I started trying to lose weight last Saturday. I have lost 3 lb but suppose it will slow down now.

Is it too much to expect to lose 2 stone? How long should it take me?

Does anyone know of a good website to look up how many calories in different foods?

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.

Regards

Alison

Hi all - just joining this thread. smile Trying to lose a few kgs. for the wedding in 4 weeks time. A bit of a push and I should be able to trim down. Hope I can be as successful as some of you! Big walk this morning but came back ravenous - black coffee and a banana will keep me going for a bit, I hope. I know I've got to get some kind of plan going............

greenmossgiel Mon 30-Apr-12 09:59:11

One pound off for me! I know I've got a strange way of recording my weight-loss, but I would've given up a long time ago if I hadn't done it this way. I get on the scales first thing each morning, and only record it in my wee book if I've lost. If I gain, I don't mark it down. It's all in the mind, but I know I would have lost heart if I weighed myself once a week and I'd found myself to have gained a bit. Joining glass's Diet thread has really helped because it means I can happily say if I've lost - if I haven't, I consider myself to have 'stayed the same' (and report myself!) wink

gracesmum Mon 30-Apr-12 09:57:26

Good news ga (in more ways than one).
I'm 11st 5 this morning - that is gratifying as I am being pretty good. Still got a long way to go though!

imjingl Mon 30-Apr-12 09:40:44

First time I've watched it Notso. DH has always liked it but I don't often listen to him. Got some catching up to do now. (Good smile)
