I particular remember the male particpant looking at his weeks food consumption and commenting to the effect 'How beige all my food is' (except the week's one portion of veg, some brussel sprouts).
What always puzzles me about all these programmes dealing with large eaters, and the weight loss stories in diet magazines, is how the participants can afford all the food, and the huge amount of alcoholic drink they consume. Most of them seem to be in what are usually described as 'blue collar' jobs, which generally means salaries around the national average or just above. Many, although not those featured last night, have children to feed and provide for.
DH and I are not in straitened circumstances but we work to a carefully controlled budget and do our best to eat well (organic and local) yet I am sure my food bills are far lower than many of those featuring in tv programmes and magazines simply because we eat only at meal times and do not snack in between and our alcohol consumption is way below the government's limits.
