wine-v-mars bars - ooh what great news! I was told this by a relative who is a medic and therefore knows everything! Sorry, had you going there didn't I! I'm off to open a bottle grin Happy Jubilee Day - and if its any consolation, its raining here in southern France too.

AlisonMA Fri 01-Jun-12 10:07:05

Think I'll stick with the wine then!

grrrranny Fri 01-Jun-12 09:07:24

Whew. Thank you glass - I was really worried there.

Hope this helps

125mm red/white wine 85 calories
62.5g mars bar 280.6 calories

specki Is that really true? A glass of wine the same as a mars bar!

glassortwo Thu 31-May-12 22:07:35

Alison all you can do is try to eat before you go so you are not very hungry, and then be careful with whats tempts you, and just bite the bullet and deal with the outcome next week.

Well done specki I think its just getting the balance right.

Hi y'all. I lost .5kg/just over 1lb - but this could be down to worrying and feeling blue.

It seems to me from reading the posts that if none of us had any fun in our lives we would reach and stay at our ideal weight. Diets are easy to stick to when you just exist but when you consider that a glass of wine is equal to a Mars Bar......?????????? Thats what makes it so difficult!

AlisonMA Thu 31-May-12 09:42:57

GNs, I've just woken up to the fact that we have a four day party in a couple of days! How on earth do we lose wieght as all the various events will include far too many temptations. I've been asked to make chocolate cornflake cakes for a 1950s party where they will be jelly, blancmange, butterfly cakes etc.! On Sunday it is street party which is bound to have nothing healthy and then more events on Monday and Tuesday.

Any tips anyone?

jeni just what you need, enjoy your break smile

jeni Wed 30-May-12 20:42:45

Mercie Madame!

GillieB Wed 30-May-12 20:27:07

Jeni - I am sure you will enjoy it, though.

Bon voyage!

jeni Wed 30-May-12 20:05:27

It's just the 5day jubilee cruise. Soton Rotterdam zeebruge le havre Soton!

GillieB Wed 30-May-12 19:55:05

Jeni - we loved it. We have only done two other cruises before (one a mini and the other a 14 day trip round the Mediterranean). We had an obstructed view cabin which was lovely; we couldn't fault the staff and the service and food were excellent.

We were very fortunate as we had opted for a table for eight and we had some lovely meals with our new friends. I would recommend going to the planetarium; we enjoyed the lectures and particularly enjoyed the RADA graduates who put on "Canterbury Tales" and "The Merchant of Venice".

We had a meal in the Todd English restaurant - beautiful food.

I hope you enjoy yourself, Jeni. Where are you going?

Thanks for the encouragement..will weigh in the morning for my start weight!

AlisonMA Wed 30-May-12 13:54:05

Go for it nanej I've only been on this thread for a few weeks and it is helping me. They are very sympathetic/supportive when we slip.

glassortwo Wed 30-May-12 13:53:22

Welcome aboard nanaej

The new thread goes up ready for Monday Morning and if I am lucky I manage to get the date correct hmm unlike this week. As people get weighed on different days they just record their loss/gain when they have it, try to get weighed the same day approx same time and wearing same or similar clothes, you dont need to report your actual weight unless you want to!

We all just help each other out and give encouragement when needed.

Good luck smile

Hello dieters..please can I join the quest? I need to shed some weight and feel this forum would be helpful. Need to be brave enough to weigh myself first though confused

AlisonMA Wed 30-May-12 13:20:03

Yes glass you need Vit D to help the body absorb calcium. I have been taking a supplement for years as my parathyroids were damaged when my thyroid was removed and it seems that they have something to do with processing calcium

glassortwo Wed 30-May-12 13:10:08

Good to have you back raggy that 2lb will soon disappear again. I think if we thought of it as healthy eating and give ourselves a treat when we want it and not give ourselves a hard time when we do, it makes the balance so much more pleasant.

Sorry to hear about your osteoporosis, I dont know a great deal about it myself, but make sure you dont cut back on your calcium, and I think vit D helps. flowers

jeni Wed 30-May-12 12:47:56

What was the QM2 like? I'm going on her on Tuesday? Ive been on the other two but not the QM2!

AlisonMA Wed 30-May-12 12:46:54

So sorry to hear that Raggy is there anything which can be done? Good to only gain 2 lbs on holiday, I think most of us would be delighted with that.

I hope you are having a good time at the wedding Butter and that we will hear all about it. I agree you should be eating it all. My philosophy is to try to be good at home (and at work if you are) but when I go out I eat what I like. I don't think being a matyr is a good idea and is v ery offputting for any non dieaters who are with you.

glassortwo Wed 30-May-12 12:44:24

gillie that was a fantastic trip to celebrate your 40th anniversary. flowers

GillieB Wed 30-May-12 12:37:00

glass - I know you are right regarding the exercise bike.

The holiday was great - it was to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary in July. We flew to New York, stayed there for three nights and then sailed home on QM2 - I enjoyed the "voyage" so much - far better than the odd cruise I had done before. And it's such a good way to come home from the States, too - wish we could afford to come back this way everytime.

Butternut Wed 30-May-12 07:07:16

Thanks, Alison - let's hope it continues after all the wedding food, which I have every intention of enjoying! grin
