GrannyK your body has maybe got a used to what your are eating, try to trick it substitute a few of the things you eat for something else, change what you have for breakfast, it will just make your metabolism kick in again and drink lots of water.

Well done golden its started to move grin

I think everyone is different and WW etc seem to have unrealistic targets, we all know when we get to a weight were we are comfortable. I personally hate that scrawny look when you have lost too much.

Not been able to log on here since we arrived in France but all sorted now - the scales here are not so good as those at home but it looks as if I am about the same weight as when I left home - at least not gained. Hopefully better result next week -

Alison call the nibble mission police !!! DH is doing his best to sabotage the works! He is sat stuffing (and dunking!) biscuits in his tea!
I have refused to succumb and have taken flight to the bedroom watching rubbish on tv and to get my own back I am off to Ebay-land! That'll teach him!!!
I intend to look for a rather flattering size 12 dress that will be 'snug' so that I have an incentive for the next few pounds! Ebay is brilliant for that as you can pick up nice bits for cheap prices. If the plan works you get a great sense of achievement at a new glam you but if the plan fails you've not wasted a lot of dosh!
Oh how I wish the rain, the cold and the grey weather would go away - you can't go far from home and everyone feels so miserable and downhearted with this late winter! A bit of sunshine would make everyone feel so much better!
flowers to GrannyK Alison and everyone who is struggling and not forgetting poor sew (thinking of you) - this cold certainly doesn't help to ease pain.

Sbagran Thu 14-Jun-12 17:28:48

Oh GrannyK I too can so relate to how you are feeling as I have rumbled around 166 - 169lbs for what seems like months now and it is so frustrating when you are trying so hard. sad
If anyone comes up with a miracle answer I too would love to know!
All we can do is support one another - cheer when a loss occurs - commiserate when it doesn't.
It is always the last few lbs that are hardest to shed - I only have just about a stone to go, having gone from around 14 stone to just under 12 when I want to be a few pounds under 11.
The unfair thing is that don't we all know someone (in my case DH) who eats all the wrong things, does little or no exercise but stays at a stable weight aarrrgggghhhh! angry Life just ain't fair!

Notsogrand Thu 14-Jun-12 12:24:56

Golden and Alison, I think you've both hit on sensible ways to determine a target weight.
I joined WW in the late 60's and was given a target weight of 11st 4lbs (5'8") I didn't stick with WW, and the only time I came close to their target weight was some time later when I got down to 12st 7lbs (with the help of GP prescribed amphetamines shock) At that weight I was a size 12, had virtually no breasts and my newly revealed cheekbones were taking on a slightly cadaverous look.
I think I'll aim for 12.5 stones again, as the WW target was unrealistic. Off to check BMI now!

AlisonMA Thu 14-Jun-12 10:37:22

GrannyK I feel for you, wish I had an answer. I have an untried theory that eating a totally different diet might work?

Notso I use the BMI as a guide. I'm a size 12 (just) but only 5ft 2in and according to the charts am overweight so am working to get to the midpoint of normal. I know I feel better when I weigh less too.

GoldenGran Thu 14-Jun-12 10:36:21

I have been away for a few days, so am late in posting this. I have lost the two pounds I put on last week but have still got twelve pounds , at least, to go.
Notso, I have chosen my target weight as about half a stone heavier than I was at my lightest some thirty years ago and I'm not sure I can reach that. I just want to feel healthy and comfortable in my clothes.

Notsogrand Thu 14-Jun-12 08:08:07

I know how you feel Granny K, but try not to get depressed! sunshine
I've been faffing around for over 2 months now going up and down within a few pounds, but essentially going no-where. I've still got a few stones to go, so no excuses really. You're only 4lbs off your target weight and those last few pounds are always the hardest to shift.

Just a thought for us all....how do we arrive at a target weight and how do we know it's the right natural weight for our body?

GrannyK Wed 13-Jun-12 23:00:34

Oh this is so depressing!
I know it is only three or four pounds above my target weight, but this is now the fifth week where I have either stayed the same or gone up slightly. Will confess to the biscuits that I munched for comfort one evening , but other than that I have been really good and exercising etc etc .It is as if that rapid weight loss when I was ill has confused the body and it now can't remember how to lose weight when I eat the amount that normally works . Well can only keep trying ( minus the biscuits this week , of course! ) and hope things improve this week ......

glassortwo Wed 13-Jun-12 08:16:32

sew you are having a terrible time with your knee, try not to let it pull you down flowers we will get your weight sorted when you are more mobile. Here is a little sunshine for you! smile

Sewsilver Tue 12-Jun-12 23:12:05

Glass well done!!! I have put on 2.6lb this week, knee soooo bad can't move so expect that's why but discouraging. When, it's the smell of home made bread that makes it irresistible.

greenmossgiel Tue 12-Jun-12 15:02:52

glass, I don't really want to lose much more, just enough to keep me under that 11 stone, so that I don't waver above it, and lose heart again! If I can get to 10st 11 or thereabouts, I'll feel I have a bit of leeway!
when, I find that I really just can't eat bread or I feel bloated and the weight seems to creep up very easily. (I LOVE bread!) sad

glassortwo Tue 12-Jun-12 13:16:55

Yes I believe there is nothing we cant eat, its the amount we have to control grin

whenim64 Tue 12-Jun-12 13:15:00

glass I do have sliced bread in the freezer in case I want to take a couple of slices out and toast it, so I suppose I should use that. I think whenever you deprive yourself of something, it becomes so much more tempting. I keep telling myself that everything I eat should be gorgeous and tasty, which is where the fantasies about the lovely home-made bread come in. Too much spare time on my hands, obviouslygrin

AlisonMA Tue 12-Jun-12 13:12:33

Oh glass I don't mind being the worst loser, it must make everyone else feel so much better! smile. I must be top in something else grin

glassortwo Tue 12-Jun-12 12:38:22

Oh dear she sounds like a jobs worth susie my consultant said just ring if you cant make it and she will put a holiday in!! I think she needs to look at her people skills shock what did she expect after an extended holiday, I think a bit of encouragement would have been more productive!!
5lb not far away susie you know what to do wink

glassortwo Tue 12-Jun-12 12:33:29

alison There is not a bottom of the class grin we are all in the same boat here wink

jeni drink plenty of water and you will get rid of any that's left.

Well done when do you need to completely stop your bread? You might be like me if I was to make bread the temptation to eat most of it would be enormous (just like me grin ) This SW I am doing I have either cereal for breakfast or 2 small slices of brown bread for lunch.

susiecb Tue 12-Jun-12 12:29:04

Oh dear put a pound and half on this week after the big jubilee weekend wonder if the Queen did? Ou SW consultant was very upset as we as a group had gained more than we had lost. She has said we cant have a holiday week now unless we can prove we cant get to another group! Not sure she can say that people will only lie to her anyway. She is new and inexperienced also very young- dont think she knows much about human nature! anyway I a bmack on the plan now only five pounds to go.

whenim64 Tue 12-Jun-12 12:25:44

Down 1lb this week. I'm getting a bit bored with avoiding carbs like bread. Keep thinking I want to bake a lovely loaf but it would end up plastered with butter. Must keep busy.

jeni Tue 12-Jun-12 11:35:37

Down 1/4lb today! Some of it is fluid retention due to the saltier food on board!

AlisonMA Tue 12-Jun-12 11:33:23

Jeni I think we might be at the bottom of the class! Was it Oscar Wilde who said "I can avoid anything except temptation" or some such?

DH bought me flowers and said he would cook me a special meal tonight as he has been watching all the football. He will be upset if I don't eat it all. Must be a match he doesn't care about tonight.

Did a hard pilates class this morning but don't suppose that used many calories.

glassortwo Mon 11-Jun-12 20:15:01

Thanks notso smile

glassortwo Mon 11-Jun-12 20:14:24

jeni dont you dare get down shock you have been on holiday, you got yourself sorted before you went away and you can do it again, come on and see what we can get off for your holiday!!!

Dont worry about it notso you have been away and have indulged in all the things you have avoided for a year, dont loose sight of what you have done over this last year, it will come off as quick as it went on!

sba well done you have nearly got back to where you were again, its does not take long once you settle to it again, keep it up!

green you have maintained so well done, do you need to loose any more, you dont look like you need to?

Alison well done 1.4lbs, dont sabotage yourself by falling into the nibbles on an evening trap, sba and the fridge police will be after you beware grin I have offered my photo for the fridge door and that will frighten you grin

Notsogrand Mon 11-Jun-12 20:10:58

Fantastic glass!

glassortwo Mon 11-Jun-12 20:02:35

Another 2lb that's 8.5 lbs in two weeks grin grin
