Good morning! Standing in for glass who's on holiday in Cornwall. I just looked at the weather forcast down there. Moist hmm I hope she not tempted too much by the warmth and shelter of cornish pasty shops!
Still no sign of summer but at least the last of the hosepipe bans have now been lifted and we're saving a fortune on sun lotion smile
Good luck everyone!

Isn't this a brilliant app! It's telling me I'm not eating enough! I'll have to eat some more!
Eat more and lose weight?

Notsogrand Wed 11-Jul-12 16:43:12

GrannyH, measuring yourself is such a good idea because the inches sometimes reduce when the pounds don't. You've lost half a pound as well, good for you! You'll need braces for your trousers soon grin

Bez, slightly better is progress, so well done you! Now you can keep an accurate eye on things with the app, it will be easier to check that you're still heading in the right direction smile

Bez Wed 11-Jul-12 12:28:45

Alightly better on scales this morning but not by much - I too was horrified by the calorific value! Will try and do better!

GrannyHaggis Wed 11-Jul-12 11:52:02

Forget to post on Monday! Have lost half a pound, better than nothing. But the best bit is I've lost a whole inch and a quarter since starting this walking malarky!Maybe if I stuck to the diet advice and cut out nearly of all the carbs I'd lose more :-)

Well sone to all the losers!

Quite a few of us seem to be getting on to the MyFitnessPal site or app....many thanks for pointing us in the right direction when

Sewsilver, well done with maintaining your weight loss so far! You're right, the site/app is very helpful and I've been surprised at the calorific value of quite a few things I thought were healthy. We've no excuses now though!

Yoga, you're very welcome to join us again, most of us are still here smile You'll soon get back to your target weight, especially with the prompts from the app. It's making me watch my snacks too!

Grannylin - it's a real eye-opener isn't it? At the end of yesterday I had consumed just under my daily allowance of calories, but only with the help of an extra allowance of calories by virtue of an hour Nordic walking. Without that, I would have been way over!

I'm determined to 'beat the app' again today, which may be tricky as I'm going to a wine-tasting/ploughmans supper thingy tonight hmm

('Beat the App' sounds as though it should be on the 50 shades of grey hair thread grinblush)

Grannylin Wed 11-Jul-12 00:03:28

Just downloaded it too and stayed up far too late adding the shocking things I've eaten today! No, I don 't want to weigh that much in a month's time sad

yogagran Tue 10-Jul-12 23:45:39

That's such a great app - thanks for suggesting it. I did get down to my target weight but it's now beginning to creep up again slowly so I'm back with this thread please. I'll try using this app to keep a record of what I eat and can already see, after just one day, that I have far too many "snacks" - AND I've just remembered that I haven't included the glass of wine that's in front of me now!
It's very scary that it calculates what you will weigh if you continue to eat the way you have done today sad

whenim64 Tue 10-Jul-12 22:45:36

....repeating myself - I'm going to bed! grin

whenim64 Tue 10-Jul-12 22:44:34

I know Sewsilver I was merrily making Oat-So-Simple porridge with semi-skimmed milk and adding 1 of my 5 a day, by having raisins or dates, then discovered that it has far too much sugar in that breakfast. Having porridge oats, half milk, half water, with dried cranberries now.

Sewsilver Tue 10-Jul-12 22:34:33

Stayed the same. when what a brilliant app, can see just where I've been going astray, horrified to realise breakfast is half of my total daily calorie allowance. I thought it was healthy, muesli etc!, had been blaming weight gain on being unable to move but not the case! A bit daunting but at least I can see what I need to do,Thanks for that.

Bez Tue 10-Jul-12 22:33:27

Found out what was wrong - downloaded the iPad app and I didn't find the bit where you can work out the calories - loaded the one from the main website and no problem. Thank you ladies for the input

Notsogrand Tue 10-Jul-12 19:15:12

I love the fact that you can add your evening glass (or two!) of wine under 'snacks'.

Butternut Tue 10-Jul-12 18:38:09

A good site tip, when. I'm going to have a more thorough look later this evening.

whenim64 Tue 10-Jul-12 18:31:35

I know Notso and now I've been put off having dried dates or raisins with my morning porridge. Takes me over the sugar limit or the day! Will have cranberries instead.

Notsogrand Tue 10-Jul-12 18:12:44

Just getting my head around the www.myfitnesspal.com site.

Fascinating information and it's easy to see where you need to cut back. I didn't realise dried prunes were so high in calories!

AlisonMA Tue 10-Jul-12 17:20:13

notso thanks for that link, I'll eat more than I was! They are not as heavy in calories as I thought they might be. I knew bananas were bad but don't eat those very often so now I can nibble away at my fruit in the evenings.

whenim64 Tue 10-Jul-12 17:09:58

Bez, have you got the hang of it? I found that if i just entered what i ate on the first day, it told me how much I would lose if I carried on like that, so then I adjusted my calorie intake the next day and have gradually changed over the course of the week to keep fat and sugar consumption 'in the black.' It's really helpful for making you notice where you are having too much of certain ingredents and I've just amended the recipes to keep on track. Haven't eaten any less.

Notsogrand Tue 10-Jul-12 16:55:18

Thanks for that rosie, it sounds really good, I'm off to download it now. smile

Notsogrand Tue 10-Jul-12 16:53:29

Sbagran, it's great that you treat youself to clothing that's a size smaller and work towards it. Way to go!

Susie 2lbs - that's fantastic, and so close to your target! Well done you! I think Slimming World may have some recipes/advice for maintaining once you reach target weight, so we'll ask glass about that when she's back from her holiday.

Alison, respect for admitting the biscuits! Where's the rest of the packet? Put them in the bin and squirt washing up liquid on them grin You're right to be wary of the calories in fruit, some are surprisingly high.
www.freedieting.com/calories/fruits_0900.htm

Bez, a few of us have had a dodgy week, so you're not alone. We're all digging deep this week grin and you sound as though you will be too. Good luck with the packing! I'm going to download that fitness app too - you may find information about calories in freshly prepared meals just by Googling. I'll have a look and get back to you.

I was Nordic walking with a group this afternoon when the heavens opened, a real cloudburst. Everyone was soaked to the skin....literally. We went back to base for a cup of tea and there wasn't a dry pair of knickers in the room!

AlisonMA Tue 10-Jul-12 16:46:59

I've signed up for it too. I was surprised how many caolories I have burned today!

rosiemus Tue 10-Jul-12 16:42:36

Bez it does it all for you - there is a bit where you enter what you have done and how long for and then it tells you how many calories you have burned (never enough)

Also it's fine re the food - I just put in the ingredients for what I cook and it adds it all up for you. You can even save your favourite recipes or meals so you don't have to enter the details every time. Very clever.

Bez Tue 10-Jul-12 16:21:18

When - I have downloaded the fitness app but how do you work out the calories? I am no good at that and as I rarely buy prepared food do you know how I will go about working it out - any help would be gratefully received.

Bez Tue 10-Jul-12 16:03:43

Bad bad week for me too - I would not mind so much but I have not gone mad either - think because we were driving back to UK etc and I have not been drinking water which does always make a difference. Tomorrow I start packing in earnest for our move to France so won't have time to nibble. - although I hav been very good about that!

AlisonMA Tue 10-Jul-12 13:01:12

ADMITTING MY GUILT - last night I had 2 biscuits, 90 calories!

notso I treat myself all the time with lots of lovely fresh fruit which is so good at this time of year and I think that is probably why I'm not losing much weight!

Plan to walk to physio this afternoon, as long as the rain is not too bad. It's an easy walk downhill but coming home uphill is a good workout. I do think you were so good with the flapjack, it is one of my faourites which I why I don't make it.

Just bought loads of munchies for DS3 and fiancee and will probably have to restock before they go on Sunday. They eat so healthily all year but have just been in Spain and said they are going to come back brown and unhealthy after eating churros and chocolate all the time! I know they will eat 3 healthy meals each day and then snack like mad.

susiecb Tue 10-Jul-12 12:50:27

Two more pounds gone (over a two week and short break) so only three to go to goal but officilayy still a bit over the BMI range. I really looking for ways to maintain now so considering taking up running.
