Good morning! Standing in for glass who's on holiday in Cornwall. I just looked at the weather forcast down there. Moist hmm I hope she not tempted too much by the warmth and shelter of cornish pasty shops!
Still no sign of summer but at least the last of the hosepipe bans have now been lifted and we're saving a fortune on sun lotion smile
Good luck everyone!

jeni Mon 09-Jul-12 08:20:56

I'm not sayingsad but new diet starting today!

GoldenGran Mon 09-Jul-12 08:43:36

Me too jeni I have gone astray,(only as far as my diet goes!), and now am starting a new chapter, will post my weight next week.blush

Butternut Mon 09-Jul-12 08:48:30

Hi notso - Two weeks of Wimbledon watching and Magnum eating has done for me somewhat - so off to Zumba shortly!

Ella46 Mon 09-Jul-12 09:52:55

Mornin' notso, I've been good but not noticed much change on the old hips yet! grin
Missed my brisk walk yesterday due to tennis fever, and today it's p****ng down and the gas man is coming, so hope to get out later.

greenmossgiel Mon 09-Jul-12 10:00:07

About three-quarters of a pound off. Yesterday had a really massive urge to attack a block of baking chocolate........didn't succumb.....but it was a close thing! confused

Notsogrand Mon 09-Jul-12 12:32:41

jeni, Golden & Butter.....that makes 4 of us!!! I don't know what's happened this past week (toffee popcorn springs to mind) but I've put on 2lbs. So like you all, I'm full of fresh determination this morning. The fact that we are all making a fresh start is the important thing.

I'm going to come on this thread and post any fat foods that I eat this week. (Remaining popcorn already in the bin. It was a huge bag blush)

Ella, it's great that you've been good! It does take a while for losses to translate into 'downsizing', but it will! I hope everything is ok with the gas man. wink Enjoy your walk!

green three-quarters of a pound is great, well done! My 'hard to resist' baking ingredient is glace cherries. Not succumbing to that cooking chocolate is some achievement!

AlisonMA Mon 09-Jul-12 12:56:37

Hi all, not really worth reporting as I only lost 0.2 lbs. Glad I have digital scales now or I wouldn't even know that. Don't think all the champagne DH fed me while watching the match yesterday did much to help! DS3 and fiancee are coming on Wed so will have to try extra hard as they eat loads because they are ballet dancers and it doesn't add an ounce.

notso what a good idea to confess to everything bad we eat. I wonder if I'll be able to admit it. Last week I had 2 ice creams at 350 calories each. There admitted it!

Glace cherries don't appeal but I do have an unopened box of chocs which is fine as long as they stay unopened. Once I can see them I know what will happen!

Good luck everyone.

Hi all, and thankyou Notso for geeing us all up! Since starting using the MyFitnessPal app on my iPad last week, I've lost one pound and learned after two days that I was having far too much hidden sugar in yogurts, dates and raisins, and porridge sachets. Cutting them out takes me well below the daily limit, so I've changed some habits that I wasn't even thinking about. I could have taken the trouble to add up the nutritional data if I'd thought about it!

There's some info in one of the dailies today, saying that if you use these automatic programmes to analyse your daily nutrition, your eating habits change gradually, simply by inputting what you eat each day, and you are more likely to lose weight and be fitter.

Early days, but it's inspiring me, so I'll keep going. I've lost a stone this year, but need to lose much more.

Notsogrand Mon 09-Jul-12 15:21:21

A quick pop in....I've just brough 4 year old grandson back from pre-school, he always wants to make cakes on Monday afternoons! Back later.... will try not to lick the spoon!

Ella46 Mon 09-Jul-12 16:21:20

Forgot to say before that I've been snacking on Wasabi peas in moderation, as an alternative to anything too sweet. They hit the spot but you can't eat a lot of them without blowing your head off! grin

Notsogrand Mon 09-Jul-12 19:47:35

Alison, even a very small loss is still going in the right direction so well done you! I'm sure the champagne was ok, you probably burped away the extra calories grin Wednesday will be tough, but with a bit of planning you should be ok. Maybe include some nice things for yourself that are not fattening, so you feel you're having a treat too. Why not give your visitors the unopened box of chocolates to take home with them?

when, a pound loss is great and losing a stone is amazing, you must be so chuffed! Lots of us (myself included) still have lots more to lose, but we'll all be here, cheering each other on towards the finishing line. Your app sounds really helpful, it's amazing what a difference can be achieved by making small changes. Is the app available online? I don't have an i-pad or a smart phone, but would love to access it another way if that's do-able.

Ella grin

Grandson & myself made a jam swiss roll and coconut flatjacks (his word) this afternoon. Confession time...I had a 1 inch square of flatjack. If you lot hadn't been watching I'd have had a 3 inch square the same as everyone else!

Sbagran Mon 09-Jul-12 19:54:32

Am having a major sulk as have stayed the same in spite of all my efforts. It's so soul destroying but I suppose it isn't a gain so I am thankful for that. Am away for a long weekend at the end of the week for my niece's wedding so there may be a bit of sinning but I promise I will do my best to be sensible! hmm
Thanks notso for stepping into the breach - I hope glass is ok as parts of Cornwall have experienced serious flooding.
Good luck everyone!

whenim64 Mon 09-Jul-12 20:07:13

Hi Notso. I know some things are available for iPhones as well as different tablets, but don't know if this one is. It's not an original idea so I guess there will be something similar.

Notsogrand Mon 09-Jul-12 21:36:46

sbagran I admire your resiliance! It is frustrating when you've made a big effort but the scales don't reflect that. Do you keep a record of your measurements? Sometimes the tape measure will show changes when the scales don't. Did you get your 3 swim/gym sessions in last week as you'd hoped to? A little mantra for you... I didn't lose, but I didn't gain, so what I've done, is a good maintain smile Enjoy the wedding!

(I don't think there's been flooding at Sennen where glass is staying. Fingers crossed)

I don't have an iPhone when. My mobile is so old there's a slot on the side to put shillings in! grin

Sbagran Mon 09-Jul-12 22:17:05

Bless you notso for your encouragement! Actually I have never thought to record my actual measurements although I have noticed my clothes fit better. Also, when I have had some success I buy a nice dress or skirt or something from Ebay that doesn't cost me much but is just a bit too small - then gradually I fit into it! It's a psychological thing - looking at the lovely item gives incentive to lose the weight but if the item never fits (sometimes I forget my age doesn't always suit the style!) I don't feel too guilty as it didn't cost much! I have also sold some of my 'too big' clothes on Ebay which again is encouraging!
I will think about taking measurements though.
blush Actually, you are far too knowledgeable notso (thought you wouldn't know about the three planned gym/swim sessions!) - I have to admit that I didn't manage all my gym/swim sessions last week, in fact only did one set. The trouble is that it is a hotel leisure centre and obviously when the weather is as bad as it has been the residents use the facilities more than they would if they could get out and about. I appreciate they are entitled to use it but sadly, my failing is that it doesn't take much to put me off and if it is busy I don't bother!
I have a cunning plan though - I think while our summer is 'as it is' I will pop my book into my gym bag, then when I get there if it is busy I will curl up on a lounger and read for a while, until they get out! It may work as they can't stay in the pool forever surely?
I plan to be good-ish at the wedding, my niece is lovely but her father (my brother) is a complete numpty - we simply don't get on and haven't done so for years when he upset our mother so much by not visiting her, letting her down etc - long saga! Both my brothers are the same - we didn't have a good childhood and sadly will never see eye to eye so we all steer clear from each other which works. We will be civil at the wedding and I am sure all will be well - fingers crossed!
Thanks again for the encouragement -and thanks also for the mantra! I will keep repeating it to myself! smile
Good luck wishes and flowers to everyone else trying to lose!!!

Sbagran Mon 09-Jul-12 22:23:18

P.S I would also be very interested to know if the app that when describes (or similar) is available on line as my housebrickmobile phone isn't intelligent enough to cope with technology! grin

nannym Tue 10-Jul-12 09:37:35

The website address is www.myfitnesspal.com I used it to get the link for the iPad link. Thanks for the tip when

susiecb Tue 10-Jul-12 12:50:27

Two more pounds gone (over a two week and short break) so only three to go to goal but officilayy still a bit over the BMI range. I really looking for ways to maintain now so considering taking up running.

AlisonMA Tue 10-Jul-12 13:01:12

ADMITTING MY GUILT - last night I had 2 biscuits, 90 calories!

notso I treat myself all the time with lots of lovely fresh fruit which is so good at this time of year and I think that is probably why I'm not losing much weight!

Plan to walk to physio this afternoon, as long as the rain is not too bad. It's an easy walk downhill but coming home uphill is a good workout. I do think you were so good with the flapjack, it is one of my faourites which I why I don't make it.

Just bought loads of munchies for DS3 and fiancee and will probably have to restock before they go on Sunday. They eat so healthily all year but have just been in Spain and said they are going to come back brown and unhealthy after eating churros and chocolate all the time! I know they will eat 3 healthy meals each day and then snack like mad.

Bez Tue 10-Jul-12 16:03:43

Bad bad week for me too - I would not mind so much but I have not gone mad either - think because we were driving back to UK etc and I have not been drinking water which does always make a difference. Tomorrow I start packing in earnest for our move to France so won't have time to nibble. - although I hav been very good about that!

Bez Tue 10-Jul-12 16:21:18

When - I have downloaded the fitness app but how do you work out the calories? I am no good at that and as I rarely buy prepared food do you know how I will go about working it out - any help would be gratefully received.

rosiemus Tue 10-Jul-12 16:42:36

Bez it does it all for you - there is a bit where you enter what you have done and how long for and then it tells you how many calories you have burned (never enough)

Also it's fine re the food - I just put in the ingredients for what I cook and it adds it all up for you. You can even save your favourite recipes or meals so you don't have to enter the details every time. Very clever.

AlisonMA Tue 10-Jul-12 16:46:59

I've signed up for it too. I was surprised how many caolories I have burned today!

Notsogrand Tue 10-Jul-12 16:53:29

Sbagran, it's great that you treat youself to clothing that's a size smaller and work towards it. Way to go!

Susie 2lbs - that's fantastic, and so close to your target! Well done you! I think Slimming World may have some recipes/advice for maintaining once you reach target weight, so we'll ask glass about that when she's back from her holiday.

Alison, respect for admitting the biscuits! Where's the rest of the packet? Put them in the bin and squirt washing up liquid on them grin You're right to be wary of the calories in fruit, some are surprisingly high.
www.freedieting.com/calories/fruits_0900.htm

Bez, a few of us have had a dodgy week, so you're not alone. We're all digging deep this week grin and you sound as though you will be too. Good luck with the packing! I'm going to download that fitness app too - you may find information about calories in freshly prepared meals just by Googling. I'll have a look and get back to you.

I was Nordic walking with a group this afternoon when the heavens opened, a real cloudburst. Everyone was soaked to the skin....literally. We went back to base for a cup of tea and there wasn't a dry pair of knickers in the room!
