Well here we are last weigh in for July, where is our summer?

Against my better judgment I have agreed to start a low carb diet with my DD who suffers from POCS she feels on having read up on the diet that it will help her. I cook for us all so as I need to be cooking the same menu for everyone we will see... watch this space hmm

I'll be watching, glass wink! Good luck x

Still seem to be keeping trimmer, and I'm sure it is down to less carbs. I can't do without them - love potatoes and bread - but now limit them just a bit. Friends are beginning to comment that I'm slimmer, so even without the scales, I feel I'm on the right track! smile

butter if friends have noticed you have done very well as it takes a while for people to see a difference. This low carb book certainly makes you think. I love potatoes and bread too (think it stems back to childhood staples) and as much as I cut them back when I am trying to loose weight I always have some or I have cravings so this will be a challenge. hmm

Half a pound lost ths week and all the evidence for my cheating is there on the FitnessPal app! Lots of family visits and convenience meals are to blame, culminating in barbequed spare ribs, a massive home made quiche lorraine and strawberry cheesecake with wine yesterday. Back to normal today. No catering to do, all the tempting food has gone. Got to try harder - there's a wedding coming up in 7 weeks.

Under half a pound off but at least it's not a gain. Well done when to eat and lose weight. Have introduced MFP to two neighbours and were going to meet weekly for support so along with Gransnet support no excuse. See specialist tomorrow and hope some miracle is going to mean I can walk again.

glassortwo Mon 30-Jul-12 12:31:02

when that's great, so you can still have treats but the MFP is keeping you focused at other times.

sew 1/2lb off fantastic, it's in the right direction and getting together will give you support and it helps to do it together. Hope all goes well tomorrow flowers

Sbagran Mon 30-Jul-12 17:06:03

Well done sew I always look out for your posting each week as your staying power is such an inspiration. Well done at hanging on in there! Good luck tomorrow - I will say one for you that the consultant will be able to help flowers
when I was in your position last week following a family wedding and a sinful week - you still lost envy - I put on 3.4lbs (hit 167.2 from 163.8) and shot off the top of the fridge! (My weight chart is on the side of the fridge!)
I started MFP this week and it does keep you focussed except that on days when I think I have eaten well it says I haven't eaten enough, then on days when I think I should have spare calories I am in the red!
I find fresh fruit stacks the calories up - I love my fruit and always looked on it as good to 'fill up' on - apparently not confused!!!
This week I am delighted to say that I have lost 4.2lbs (now 163lbs) but bear in mind that most of what I lost was the result of my 'pig out' but I still appreciate I have lost nearly a pound so I am happy. Hopefully MFP will keep me in line this week.
Incidentally, the thyroid test came back as having returned to normal! I am pleased obviously but bang goes that excuse grin
Good luck everyone!!!

Well done all of you! I seem to have eaten nothing but salmon and greens for days and I have to say that I feel much better for having no carbs after breakfast.
It only takes a couple of new potatoes and I really bloat.
I've not been sleeping well so I've had a couple of cups of hot chocolate (did help) but full of sugar and calories!
Still I seem to be ok so far.

Sook Mon 30-Jul-12 18:02:13

Please can I join you all. Over the last year I have lost almost 4 stone and now weigh 12st 12lb. At 5.4ins I am still regarded as Obese by the BMI I would like to drop down to at least 12 st but I'm finding it really hard. I seem to drop a few pounds get a bit cocky about it and back on they go.

I look after grandchildren 3 days a week, walk my dogs for at least an hour a day (split into 3 or 4 walks) and I have started cycling again just 15 mins in the evening for now. So I'm not exactly idle in the exercise dept.

whenim64 Mon 30-Jul-12 18:09:52

Blimey sook - yes, get in here quick and tell us how you did it. What an achievement smile

glassortwo Mon 30-Jul-12 20:21:54

sba 4.2lb wow!!! It confirms what I thought that when you think you have been good in fact we have eaten the wrong things, it certainly focuses the mind. Good news about the thyroid. sunshine

ella that bloated feeling gets me every time, I am hoping to see a difference this week cutting out the carbs. Do you use the options chocolate drinks they are low in calories and you still feel as though you have had a treat and having something soothing, you can get all different flavours in sachets so you can find which is a favourite without wasting a whole jar.

We would love to have you join sook smile congratulations on loosing all of that, you will be an inspiration to us all, the last few pounds can be a stinker to get rid of but we will try to help you shift them.

Ella46 Mon 30-Jul-12 21:59:18

Forgot to tell you, my snack of wasabi peas, which I have been munching instead of sweet things, has cost me a fortune. On Friday I broke most of a tooth off and after seeing my dentist today,I am having a ceramic implant which will cost about £700!
T o add insult to injury, I remembered, after I did it, that the last time I had wasabi peas, about 18 months ago, I did the very same thing!
How stupid am I, and how bad is my memory? angry confused

glassortwo Mon 30-Jul-12 22:06:30

Maintained my target weight this week (well just half a pound under) and am watching what I have - having a few extras but not going mad. Have signed up for our new gym/pool/classes when it repoens after refurb in October as I know Winter is a problem for me a combination of reduced opportunties for golf/ depression and badweather plus lovely stews with dumplings mean I could easily gain back a stone in the winter and if anything I might try and lose a few more pounds.

Hello ann have a look at the MY Fitness Pal most people on here have just found it in the last few week and it helps you keep on track with what you are eating.
myfitnesspal.com

Well done susie that first week can knock you off the rails getting the balance of maintaining just right, but you have succeeded in avoiding the pitfalls. smile

Just two pounds to go to get to my target weight (again!), like sook I have trouble staying at the "right weight". So 10.2 this week, better than last week but very slow.
Does anyone know anything about a "superfoods" diet that a friend of mine is following and says she feels "terrific"? Personally I believe that to follow a specific diet is wrong for me because it's my eating habits that are bad and if I was to follow a special diet, when I came off it I would just resort to previous eating habits and it would all go back on. I need to change the way I eat. Readers Digest did an article years ago called something like "Change one" where you concentrated on just changing one bad eating habit at a time and that made sense to me

glassortwo Tue 31-Jul-12 11:31:38

yoga Wel done it will happen. I have not heard of that one, thats why I like Slimming World as its not a diet you eat what you want so there isnt the risk of it all going to the wall when you start to crave for something, its eating normally.
I am not sure about this low carb thing DD and I are trying out, I dont seem to be eating enough (Might be me being a pig as you do eat lots with SW) but out of curiosity I entered every thing I had yesterday onto MFP and I had 89 calories over by daily allowance, but DD has said not to compare one against the other but wait to see the benefits. Jurys out hmm

This is sooooooooooo depressing.

Have had lots of exciting things happening recently which is why I haven't been on the thread for a few weeks . They have all involved food and I really have been as careful as possible , but it still involves eating more than I usually do. Inbetween I have been super careful.
So my weight is going up and down like a yo-yo .
Am currently at the very top of my weight chart .....

(Sbagran- delighted to see you do the same as I do . Very visual !!!)

.......and cross !

Sbagran Tue 31-Jul-12 13:55:31

Bless you GrannyK know how you feel!
I find the weight chart on the side of the fridge keeps me very focussed.
I don't know how you record yours but my scales only register lbs, not stones and lbs (don't do foreign stuff!) and so my chart has a line for every 0.2 of a pound.
That means if I lose a pound the yellow highlighter bar drops by 5 spaces which is very encouraging as it looks so much!
Equally it goes up 5 spaces if I put on a pound which is very eye-opening and psychologically gives you a kick up the b side of the fridge!

I've been having broadband problems so out of the loop for a few days. In the few hour period yesterday when it was working, I posted on this thread...but the post hasn't come up. Only just found out as it went off again! I wont even mention BT's customer services!
Anyway, I lost 2lbs last week, so now only 4lbs away from my next weight loss target. MFP has been brilliant in getting me back on track and it was what I missed most when I had no broadband connection!
Great to see new people joining us. smile
