Bought this book over a week ago and it's a veritable treasure trove of great, tasty recipes. I'm just eating a sensible breakfast and lunch then using o e of their recipes for dinner, and can already notice a difference of a couple of pounds in only a week.

Would definitely recommend.

Is it an omen that I had just fallen off the wagon and eaten all the grandchildren's giant chocolate buttons - the ones I keep here and use to reinforce potty training! What a bad nana I must be. sad

goldengirl Thu 13-Sept-12 17:17:56

Ah, the omen could be that my weight will rise. 'Omenous' perhaps grin

grin*Nanadogsbody*!

grin Nanadogs. I love the thought of Omen potatoes.

Nanadogsbody Wed 12-Sept-12 22:58:13

Omen potatoes? The machines are taking over again.....some potato!

Nanadogsbody Wed 12-Sept-12 22:55:49

Lamb and spinach curry very tasty too. It already has omen potatoes in it golden so that should please you.[tasty emoticon]

DH is finding the recipes I've tried so far really tasty, as do I. The trouble is I still add the odd new potato occasionally so the weight will take just that bit longer to shift.

Good to hear it nanad. Sometimes the sheer tension of getting through a difficult time can result in a good long sleep. Had a few nights like that recently myself. Take care smile

Nanadogsbody Mon 10-Sept-12 08:05:04

Slept like a log when. Where does that expression come from?
Lucky you nfk having a Husband Who Cooks. MrDogsbody is a BIY expert..Botch it Yourself. hmm

NfkDumpling Sun 09-Sept-12 20:13:38

It's arrived! We're off to spend a few days in our caravan in Thetford forest and and, as it looks as if the weather is about to deteriorate, I've packed it so that Husband Who Cooks can be inspired.

Pleased to hear how you've got on nanadogsbody. I hope you sleep well tonight flowers

Today was never going to be an easy day for me, so I decided to cook something special to keep our spirits up. The peppered steak with mushrooms was absolutely delicious & Mr Dogsbody was positively drooling.

The lasagne was delicious. The leek sheets, once cooked, were not easy to cut with a knife so I used scissors grin
I use my old school cookery book for preserves and christmas pudding and Keith Floyd's books are often in use.

Right! I've read enough............ off to order the Hairy Dieters, hope Amazon has restocked!

Rosiebee Wed 05-Sept-12 20:12:30

Delia's original Cookery course from the 70s. It's held together with tape now and most used pages regularly drop out. But it's the one I always turn to for basic recipes.
Now off to the Book People to check out the Hairy Dieters Book!

Just had notification from Amazon (other outlets available) that my copy of Hairy Dieters book is on its way. I LOVE cookery books but have restrained my self lately as many recipes from the tv programmes are on the internet. I have a cupboard full of books which have hardly been used and some which are literally falling apart...ie Good Housekeeping book of Jams and Preserves (purchased in August 1969!!) which is literally held together with jams and preserves splashed on pages!!!! Another favourite is Cooking for Compliments, circa 1967. Most used is Good Housekeeping Basic Cookery which was a most appreciated wedding present in 1967!!! What other recipe books do other gransnetters return to time and time again.?
Just realised its wine o'clock!!!!! how time flies.....wine

merlotgran Wed 05-Sept-12 18:12:00

We're going to try their lasagne recipe this evening. It's in the oven and smells delicious. Using leek 'sheets' instead of pasta worked really well when making it.

Nanadogsbody Sun 02-Sept-12 08:04:34

That's true merlot don't know why I didn't think of that myself. Just blindly following the recipe perhaps. I do a lovely low fat 'cottage pie' anyway using turkey mince and topping it with 4-veg mash (equal portions of mashed carrot, parsnip, sweet potato and potato). Grandsons love it.

merlotgran Sat 01-Sept-12 16:09:04

I don't like tomatoes in Cottage Pie, Nanadogsbody so I left them out and just added a little extra stock. I'm not sure Cottage Pie was ever intended to include tomatoes but I could be wrong - you might just as well make lasagne. DH moans that too many recipes have tomatoes in them these days.

Nanadogsbody Sat 01-Sept-12 08:37:22

Wasn't impressed with the Cottage Pie, too tomatoey..? Is that a word? Did I measure everything out accurately? First disappointment. If anyone else tries this recipe can you feed back please? hmm
