First one was in Manchester in 2008.Yesterday on our Seniors Health Walk we discovered there is one in our village and a fun time had by all.
Is there one in your area?

Ana Tue 01-Oct-13 21:56:17

Yes - it may give you the 'feel-good' factor! grin

Agus Tue 01-Oct-13 21:35:27

Priceless j08 Had a real burst out loud laugh.

Started reading the thread thinking, this is not my thing at all, then, when I read your post I started to think, well, maybe I could be persuaded grin

Sel Tue 01-Oct-13 19:52:24

Hmmm, you too feetlebaum - you've got to be close methinks grin

feetlebaum Tue 01-Oct-13 19:50:09

Just lie back and think of the United Kingdom...

Sel Tue 01-Oct-13 19:49:40

Crikey. I am standing, bent over laughing at this j08. No, I don't understand 'playgrounds' either. Tell you what, I'll do this walk tomorrow and tell you if it felt patronising. It does seem to me though Age UK are trying. Personally, I can't believe I am going to an Age UK organised walk - if there are a proliferation of zimmer frames, bobble hats, overt cheeriness, I'll let you know. You will think it's a great idea. Otherwise, I want an address and I'm getting you on the next one grin

Lona Tue 01-Oct-13 19:11:53

grin grin Great stuff jings

FlicketyB Tue 01-Oct-13 19:06:05

Sel I am with j08 here(once she had sorted her message out grin

j08 Tue 01-Oct-13 19:01:06

Ana that is the worst one yet! blush grin

Ana Tue 01-Oct-13 18:56:40

(I know it was your Kindle really...)

Ana Tue 01-Oct-13 18:56:03

Oh, that's the best laugh I've had all day, jingl! 'separate beings needing feeling up...' grin

j08 Tue 01-Oct-13 18:52:48

O M G !!!!!!

I DID NOT SAY FEELING UP. I SAID GEEING UP!!! shock

j08 Tue 01-Oct-13 18:51:23

That was not me called you Del!

j08 Tue 01-Oct-13 18:50:52

If I want to walk, and I often do, I go out of the door and put one foot in front of the other.

Sorry Del but I hate all this treating us as separate beings needing feeling up.

j08 Tue 01-Oct-13 18:48:22

I don't understand why they have to call them 'playgrounds'. Why not fitness equipment? #patronising

Sel Tue 01-Oct-13 18:31:30

FlicketyB I understand your comments but I'm actually impressed with Age UK. I host tea parties for the elderly and isolated and most participating are 80+. But they have a wide net: tomorrow I am doing one of their GO50 walks, this is in Surrey where there is a comprehensive walks programme, most days, for all abilities 2-10 miles with volunteer leaders plus Nordic Walking and off road biking. You've got to be fairly fit for some of them but you choose - but it's all about keeping and encouraging fitness, getting out there and joining in with others. They are worth checking out.

FlicketyB Tue 01-Oct-13 18:07:31

I think there is something so contrived and self-righteous about them. It is not that I am not up for behaving in a silly fashion. I was bouncing up and down on a huge bouncy cushion with DGS this weekend and on holiday loved going down the flumes at the swimming pool, but playgrounds for seniors just sets my teeth on edge.

LizG Tue 01-Oct-13 17:19:38

I reckon that sounds fun Maniac . Fortunately I am big MiceElf (I do love your name, so clever) so the equipment should be okay for me. Shame that you should have to miss out though sad

MiceElf Tue 01-Oct-13 09:12:36

Ive seen that one. But as ever it is designed for big blokes. All the equipment is far too big for me to use. sad

Maniac Tue 01-Oct-13 09:11:44

LizG
It's on the playing fields in Backwell -near to Scout hut .Maybe we could combine a visit with a local meetup
I'll try to put a photo on 'pictures' thread.
Try googling 'Images of playgrounds for seniors'

Elegran Tue 01-Oct-13 09:09:36

There is one near the Serpentine www.ageuk.org.uk/health-wellbeing/keeping-fit/keeping-fit-at-a-senior-playground/

Elegran Tue 01-Oct-13 09:07:16

KI googled it and found this link www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-511253/Playtime-Grandma-Council-opens-new-playground-60s.html Sounds fun.

tiggypiro Tue 01-Oct-13 09:06:51

These things are all over China and very popular with all age groups. Having often tried them I'm not too sure about the quality of the exercise but they will be better than nothing ! Perhaps a Physio will disagree with my perceptions. My 4yr old DGS certainly thinks they are good fun - even the ones he is too small for - and of course there are no Health and Safety notices to spoil his fun !

LizG Tue 01-Oct-13 09:00:27

Sounds fun Maniac where abouts is it? I have a vision of taking our WI on an outing grin
