A new low-carb support thread for 2016

Thought we needed a shiny new thread for the New Year.
The thread is intended to support people who are already on the diet or want to start losing weight / gaining health benefits by low-carbing.
Here is a simple explanation of this way of eating and how it works.

You do not have to count calories, weigh anything, exercise furiously or feel hungry.
You do have to cut out sugar and sugar-substitutes and avoid starchy foods like potatoes, bread, rice and pasta.
You need to eat lots of vegetables (especially those grown above ground) and protein which can be cheese, eggs, meat, fish etc. You can eat olive oil, butter and other natural fats. You can eat limited amounts of fruit, dark chocolate and some alcoholic drinks in moderation.
You need to avoid anything labelled low-fat and most processed food and drink.

Think they are quite high in carbs NanKate ....but having said that, if you're going to eat a handful roasted as a snack instead of a cupcake or a bar of chocolate then......

Slapped wrist TOW. Make something like a fruit fool with a bit of Splenda. Gooseberries are in season. Much better than cake ( who am I kidding)

NanKate I said I'd try to find the Persian Chicken recipe I blue-linked a while ago. I can't find it just yet and some visitors have just dropped in unexpectedly so will try again tomorrow. Lovely to meet you at last! smile

I could do with losing 2 or 3 more lbs, but am generally not increasing weight. I find if I have been out to eat or have a main meal with carbs occasionally, weight remains static but doesn't go up. Trying to do more walking which helps too. I had a craving for a snickers bar of all things the other day, but I don't think the odd lapse matters. It's what you eat most days that counts. Had some over weight friends round for supper on Saturday and they have been on the typical low calorie diet, lost weight initially and now put it back on. Their eyes nearly popped out when they saw me scoffing cream, butter etc. Felt a little bit smug. smile

We have been maintaining for over a year now and found it tricky at first but fine now. We now have a slice of spelt toast and home-made marmalade for breakfast. We stick with salad or soup and no carbs for lunch. Once or twice a week we have a small quantity of carbs with dinner; baby new potatoes from the garden at the moment.
When we were in Spain in January I ate too many almonds, oranges and dates. I cut out all evening carbs and portion size for a bit and shifted the 1lb that I had put on after a couple of weeks. My weight has been amazingly stable except for heat and fluid retention.

TOW I know just what you mean about carbs. I went into our local Co-op this morning. There was a tray of Portugese custard tarts. I could have bought one and eaten it Nobody would know. I was very tempted But I didn't. I've got this far and am not going to ruin thr ship for a cupful of custard. Portugese or not.
Chicken Satay this evening, with steamed broccoli.

Yes, I think the maintenance will be difficult . You're so close to your target , wow .
I want to lose another stone then maintain , today I found that I was needing carbs . I didn't scoff any though , but the desire was there ! I don't want to slide back up .

TOW, just four months. I need to lose another Half a stone to give myself a bit of leeway. But then it is just maintaining the weight loss. I will still need to LCHF though for my BG

Congratulation BB ?.It's such a great feeling to lose weight without having the tyranny of a diet which counts calories isn't it? I have become much more creative with meals, and we have some interesting concoctions! You lot seem brilliant cooks to me, but I have picked up masses of tips. I liked Anya's - buy a ready cooked chicken, and have for two meals, once with salad. My name isn't LG for nothing........
I went to diabetic clinic last week, and fasting blood sugar 5.9 which is just about OK, so intend to keep low carbing forever to stave off Diabetes 2.

I expect so shysal, but I hate testing so will let Dr do it . I have done it occasionally and it was going in the right direction
