WW or Slimmers World?

I don't know if I am allowed to ask, but has anyone changed from WW to Slimmers World? I'm so fed up ( no pun intended) with counting points, and now WW has changed to smart points I'm wondering if Slimmers World would be easier.

Oops! I've just scrolled back through the thread and see that I've already shared my opinion on this subject three months ago. In my defence, I see that I have been consistent in my advice! grin

Am a current member of SW and am thrilled to have lost 2 stone and 8 pounds. It suits me because I like my pasta and rice and these are 'free'. I find I am eating much more fruit and veg. (Can't be bad). The main thing I have cut out I suppose is bread.

Golly did you read about the hall being double booked in Southend and the SW class and WW class turned up at the same time? It ended up in a huge punch up police were called and 15 were arrested. Shock Horror and I was just thinking how nice you all seemed on here. I'm shocked!!

I've went to SW for 2 years and lost 2st, carried on for 2 more yoyoing up and down. I'm pretty certain that without SW I would have gone up and regained the 2st.
At present I'm making a better effort as I am having increasing pain and mobility problems from an arthritic knee. The last two weeks I've lost 2 lb and 2.5lb so I'm cautiously optimistic!
I use the Little Book of Soups a lot and keep the SW range of meals in the freezer. They are useful when in a hurry and Iceland usually have an offer if I buy 3, free pack of yoghourts or veg for instance.
Now I've outed myself I'd better make sure there's a weight loss each Friday!!

I suspect that what really counts isn't the diet but the attitude of the dieter. If the method you are using, whether in a group or on your own, doesn't keep you motivated then it will not work. However, the dieter needs to be honest with themselves over their commitment to their weight losso plan. The best diet in the world will not work if you are consciously/unconsciously constantly undermining it.

You are so right, Monica!

I've done WW three times in my life, very successfully (eg. 4 stone in mid 40s). Early 60s, not so quick, lost 2 stone in 2 years. But I keep putting it back on. Mid 60s, tried for 28 months at WW, was same weight at the end, so I gave up. After 5 months, and another 6lbs on, I had a go at SW. Very different, much much easier than WW, so much FREE food. I stay for class, but they are not very good though everyone loves the leader, no idea why. However, my rate of weight loss is very slow (now 65), and it's taken me 6 months to lose 13 and a half pounds. In a week less than me, one member, early 40s, has lost 3 and a half stone and is at target. Both WW and SW are similar in that they encourage a healthy approach to food. On neither should you ever feel hungry or deprived. Horses for courses. SW for me at the moment, and this time, it's NOT going back on again, I'll keep going to class.

I was at my slimming world group today and I love it BUT more importantly (and this came to me when someone at group mentioned the word DIET) it's not a diet, it is actually a plan to lead a healthy lifestyle.

I lost 2.5 stone a couple of years ago, then met a wonderful man, got married and put a stone back on, this time I am determined to get back to target and stay there.
Anyway my point is that slimming world isnt a diet, to me it is a healthier way of living/eating. My new husband and I eat the same meals and he loves all the recipes I try out. We eat lots of veg and I love fruit (except melon)
So in answer to the original question I think, personally, that if you're looking for a healthy lifestyle and wish to lose weight then slimming world is the way to go. Good luck & enjoy

SW this morning had a taster with people bringing Christmas buffet nibbles they'd made. Some were delicious.
Also I was looking in awe at a member who has lost 4 stone - since February.
There is so much 'free food' you can eat and plenty of recipe ideas. Their Fakeaways book has popular dishes in healthier forms and they are very convincing substitutes.
It's a matter of organising your shopping and cooking really, although the readymeals are useful to keep in too.

I have lost weight with SW but honestly don’t really like the concept and I like the meetings even less lots of happy clapping for every half pound lost and conmiserations for every half pound on Really not much helpful info just lots if money making magazines and foods etc Not sure that WW would be any better though I somehow need the discipline of some weekly weigh in s

I have started the Slimming World plan this week, but not attending meetings because I am not into the idea of them, like you BlueBelle. I just bought copies of the starter pack and other leaflets for £10 on Ebay. It is very easy to follow and I seem to be eating far more than usual. I motivate myself by adding my weight to a graph and planning my menu for each day and recording Syns. Compared to the old WW points plan, it is far easier, although they now do a No Point option.
I have lost weight successfully in the past by alternate day fasting, but couldn't stick to it this time. Any weight loss plan works if you stick to it!

Elrel Fri 20-Oct-17 14:34:33

Shysal - at SW yesterday a newish member said 'I've never eaten so much in my life'.

Bambam Fri 20-Oct-17 15:22:38

Hi, I joined SW 12 weeks ago. I have lost 22lbs very easily, it's sensible, healthy eating. Very easy plan to follow, no point counting (apart from a few Syn points a day) so you can have treats if you like.
I do stay to meetings. Yes! She does go around the room asking how much you have lost (or not) but if you've lost, even half a pound you get a big applause and if not you get a lot of understanding. No-one thinks badly of you. We all 'put on' some weeks. Some of the other members are very funny and say that any gain was because of the takeaways, meals out or packs of biscuits they just couldn't help eating.
Ours is a big group, about 30 and I've never felt uncomfortable, we're all in the same boat. Try it!

shysal Fri 20-Oct-17 15:26:11

That is so true Elrel! I lost 5lb in the first week, but now well into the second it is a big fat zero, think I should cut down the portion sizes a bit.
How are you doing with SW, has it been successful for you?

Smurf52 Fri 20-Oct-17 15:27:35

SW is the only way I’ve ever lost weight. I like the fact you don’t count points you just eat healthily and you have your Syns for the other stuff so you don’t feel deprived.

shysal Fri 20-Oct-17 15:31:31

That is a fantastic result, Bambam! I do wish I hadn't bought Hallowe'en treats in advance, they are calling to me! Maybe that accounts for the slow-down this week, although the popping candy eyeballs from Lidl are fitted into my Syn allowance blush

Bambam Sun 22-Oct-17 09:24:41

Treats like that would be calling out to me also. I can't have them in the house. None left would be my problem grin.
I mainly use my syns for an extra slice of bread and now and then a delicious cake or a an individual Cornetto.
Btw, they say not to cut down portions, I eat loads. Try to concentrate on Speed Foods for a week.
Weight loss does vary from week to week though so don't let it out you off. You "go" girl!.

Bambam Sun 22-Oct-17 09:26:03

Put you off

rosie1959 Sun 22-Oct-17 09:37:27

I am on WW no count as counting points is not for me
Can't stand SW all to happy clappy and the meetings took forever
We have a male leader who is very down to earth and makes his talks interesting and with a light humorous touch
So far have lost just under 2 stone

shysal Sun 22-Oct-17 10:46:33

Thanks for the advice, Bambam. I have been thinking of trying mainly speed foods and protein for a week (Easy Extra SP). I have been using my Syns for a packet of Quavers or French Fries a day, maybe I should change that.

You have done brilliantly rosie1959! As I said above, all plans work if you stick to them!

LadyGracie Sun 22-Oct-17 13:40:19

I’ve found SW so easy to do, I go to weekly weigh ins but don’t stay for the meetings. I’ve reached my target weight (and some ) so no more fees.

Bambam Tue 24-Oct-17 00:32:50

That's great LadyG. I know, you really don't feel deprived at all. Been to meeting tonight, just half a pound tonight but pleased anyway, better than on.
It feels so great when your waistband loosens and blouse buttons stop gaping.
Meeting some friends I havn't seen for a while in two weeks so thinking of treating myself to a new outfit. Even buying clothes is more enjoyable with a few pounds off. Let's keep at it!

shysal Tue 24-Oct-17 09:27:28

My zero for the second week eventually turned into a one pound loss at the last minute so I am happy! That makes 6lb in the first 2 weeks. Even if I only manage one a week in future I shall get there in the end.
I have become rather hooked on Lidl light cheese triangles as I can have 5 a day as my healthy extra 'a'. I pop one when I find myself gazing into the fridge between meals! What treats work for anyone else, free foods or otherwise?

LadyGracie Wed 25-Oct-17 17:36:50

Just back from weigh in, I've gone too far below target and will have to pay next week if I don't put some weight back on. For snacks I eat low fat cheese or joghurt, 3 jelly babies, sometimes a few maltesers, and any fruit I have around. I rarely feel hungry.

shysal Thu 26-Oct-17 08:59:02

You have done so well LadyGracie! I can't envisage myself ever losing too much weight!. What a sensible policy though to discourage you from going too far.

Hope you find an outfit you like Bambam, and that you are complimented by your friends.
