Am I completely mad!

I am 67 and go to the gym 5 mornings a week and work hard coming home rather damp. It has become a bit boring and was looking for a new challenge and came across a 77 yr old lady called Ernestine Shepherd who is an amazing body builder and also have 2 gym friends suffering ovarian cancer, they are so brave and uncomplaining and I decided to try and raise some cash for ovarian cancer charity. The gym have fixed up an eating plan and workout to run for 12 weeks which will turn me into a "new" woman. Do you think I am totally mad or should I give it a go. Have to say do feel rather excited by the idea!

Do it...you are being looked after and you don't want to live with a "what if..."...life is too short so enjoy!!

I am full of admiration. You have proved that age need not be a barrier. Thank you so much canary girl.

Different age I know but my youngest daughter took up power lifting a year ago at 42 now has a world record in her age weight etc ....however not wanting to burst any bubbles but I think she's hooked eating 6 blueberries and 10 almonds counting all the bits of food out etc etc To me she looks far to "small" she was never big but she's just muscle and no fat at all now and I liked to see her a bit more rounded I think she's a bit obsessed and her knees play up every now and then she's had key hole on both some years back from road running I think sport can be quite damaging , but hey ho whatever turns you on ..... I go to the (gentle) gym once or twice a week but every day and I d be bored out my head good job we re all different

Well done canary girl ?

Was encouraged to join a gentle class for "my older ladies". Went along and "my older ladies" (two with sticks!) kept going for a solid hour. Made me realise how many muscles I never use, although I imagined I was fit & active. I have been shamed into taking on two sessions a week. So you go for it as long as it's properly monitored! We stiffen up too fast!

I'm fit, fit for nothing! I wore my body out too early in life!

I thought would let you know how I got on with the challenge am yet to be weighed on monday but have lost at least 2 dress sizes and a total of 13 inches off bust, waist and hips and raised around £200 for my charity. Am going to carry on and hope to enter a bodybuilding event next year.

Thanks for the support it seems there are to be little videos of me doing some of the exercises on the gym website updated every fortnight - scary face there then! But it is for my friends who are having the most beastly treatment and the lovely lady who has a stoma as a result of her ovarian cancer and she has now told me her children and grandchildren are having to be tested to see if they carry the particular gene which causes all the trouble.

Anya Mon 07-Mar-16 10:31:29

Yes, do it - but make sure you are supported and monitored. You don't want to end up with an 'over-use injury' which would halt your programme.

hildajenniJ Mon 07-Mar-16 09:54:01

Yes, do it. I wish I could be more active, but I lack motivation and have an arthritic knee, which is a bit limiting.

Martha350 Mon 07-Mar-16 06:33:14

Definitely go for it especially as you'll be getting all the support you need from the gym. I go around the same amount as you and agree it does get a bit boring after a while despite the benefits so as tiredoldwoman says it will be an exciting challenge. Let us know how you get on too!

tiredoldwoman Mon 07-Mar-16 04:58:49

Yes, go for it - how exciting ! You'll get your body all toned up, strengthened and I think the concentration and determination will sharpen your mine ! You'll have to give us a weekly update !
