Seeing doctor about my binge eating

Today I have finally admitted to myself that I have a problem with binge eating. I spoke to DH and DD about it and have made an appointment with my doctor. I have been going to Slimming World for about 2 yeras now and have lost a stone and a half. I am not overly big( size 12-14) but I'm worried things will get out of hand. I have not lost any weight for the last year and feel I'm just wasting my money. Other people can eat in a normal way, surely I can too?!

I kid myself I keep cakes and biscuits in the house in case visitors call in and need feeding. The reality is when visitors arrive I have usually eaten them so Antjexix you are certainly not alone in this issue. I too try to divert my thoughts but I can hear the food calling to me......... I tidy drawers, clean, reorganise the wardrobe, drink lots of water in fact anything other than succumb to eating lots. But if I weaken and eat it all I try very hard not to beat myself up over my "failure " once it's done it's done so I try and move on . I also keep a food diary and if I look at what I consume over a week it's not really outrageous calorie wise. So don't be too miserable over it , speak to your slimming world consultant and perhaps the other members of your group may be able to offer you some support.

Antjexix I have a friend with this problem and she has found it easier to deal with since talking about it because it is no longer 'secret'. Apparently keeping something to do in your hands is very helpful, things such as crochet, needlework of some kind, crafting etc. as well as just keeping generally busy. Have something to work towards even if only giving yourself a list of jobs to do before going for a walk at a particular time and keep your social calendar busy too.
If one doesn't have the problem or know of someone with such a problem then it just doesn't exist for folk hence the lack of understanding/empathy so just relax and don't worry what anyone says if you don't find it helpful.
Hope you find the help that you need and that you let us know what the advice is and how you get on. flowers

Antjexix , There are some `very strong` characters on this forum so you will have to take the helpful posts and ignore the not so helpful .
I think you should see your Gp as the binge eating could get out of control easily . It not only affects weight but also blood pressure and blood fats which could contribute to heart disease at our age . It is not really about what you weigh or what size you are but the fact you just can`t stop when you start . xx

Thanks you again for all your comments. Most of them quite helpful.

Binge eating is a recognised eating disorder. It's unlikely you need a dietician as the cause is most likely emotional. Cognitive behaviour therapy can be really helpful but you may well have to pay for it. Good luck.

Thank you

Glad you are going to see the GP Antjexix.
It is very uncomfortable reading to see any GN acting as doctor, when they have no training.

Oh FFS! That is bloody ridiculous!

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 28-Apr-16 18:22:53

angry

The weight can be a red herring. A person with an eating disorder will have flexible weight.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 28-Apr-16 18:28:36

Haven't we all? (got flexible weights) grin hmm

Shall we stop being daft now?

obieone Thu 28-Apr-16 18:39:38

Not really, no. I dont think my weight has changed within half a stone in at least 10 years.

Antjexix Thu 28-Apr-16 18:49:56

Binge eating disorder is actually a medical condition. You could read up on it on the NHS website?! jinglbellsfrocks

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 28-Apr-16 19:11:17

I hope your medical condition is soon healed. grin

But please remember the NHS is already overstretched.

Antjexix Thu 28-Apr-16 19:15:26

Oh dear. You never see a doctor then I take it??

aggie Thu 28-Apr-16 19:21:34

I kept telling myself that the GP is too busy , but I nearly left it too late last year , see the GP and have a good chat , book two slots and get to the bottom of the problem

Antjexix Thu 28-Apr-16 19:30:50

Will do aggie

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 28-Apr-16 19:40:11

Not if I can help it. Usually wait till I'm on my knees.

Antjexix Is your profile correct? confused Says you are 45. That's younger than my daughter! Perhaps we are on different wavelengths due to age difference.

Hey, you two, go and have some cupcake

grannylyn65 Thu 28-Apr-16 19:56:18

Tout la meme chose grin

Jalima Thu 28-Apr-16 19:59:16

Jings you can have some too, if you like cupcake grin

ps Antjexix perhaps your goal weight is too low at SW and your expectations of yourself are too high?
If you reach your goal you don't have to pay (so I am told at WW, never achieved that myself).

Lazigirl Thu 28-Apr-16 20:03:59

Hang on jings Antjexix's profile says she has 2 grandchildren. Isn't this "Gransnet"? There isn't an age limit is there?

Jalima Thu 28-Apr-16 20:05:17

Wow!
Mind you I worked with someone whose DGC were the same age as my DC
