Anyone Out There With A Completely Flat Stomach?

I've lost a bit of weight over the last few months, which I'm pleased about. I'm also more toned, and feel fitter than I have for a while.

I used to be a size 10 with a completely flat stomach and no fat around my middle. Over the past couple of years however pads of fat have crept onto my hips and I've developed an unsightly "gunt" which is not shifting. Not yet, anyway.

Does anyone else possess one of these pesky stubborn things? If so, have you succeeded in getting rid? Or am I stuck with it now?

I'm 56. Perhaps it's an age thing....

I think there is a distribution of body fat that occurs in old age. I tell myself this is for our survival; because if, millions of years ago, the tribe was short of food they would not have fed the elderly only the child bearing women. So this is the reserve nature gave us to enable us to live in hard times. Also I think there is research that being a bit heavier is good for our bones. I also think if we have a debilitating illness a bit of reserve is helpful.

Gunt...what a word but very descriptive lol.

Maybe you could have an apron printed with that word on for us over fifties to wear it strategically while cooking the dreaded xmas dinner, ha ha.

thanks for the laugh oh and also I got one too..it's big unfortunately and would do anything to loose it.

Nope, never had a flat stomach even when I weighed 8 stone. Looking back at photos of me in a bikini in my teens at my lowest weight, I still had a tummy. I'm still reasonably slim and when I lose a few pounds for my holidays the stomach doesn't go.

Head for the "wear your own bra" body shaper,. It's a miracle worker. Flatter tum without the constipated look one gets whilst trying to hold your stomach in.

Thanks, Michelle - although 'wear your own bra' sounds weird...

Just looked it up on Amazon - it looks a bit drastic but effective.

All of the females on my Mum's side of the family have large middles and spare tyres. I am the same. I think when you are younger your muscles can 'ping' back but when you are older, unless you are REALLY lucky, this dosn't happen. I've always had a fatter tummy and always think about a lady I worked with, who's tummy fat saved her from a nasty accident, when a car reversed into her and pinned her against a wall. The hospital said that her injuries would have been much worse if she didn't have the padding round her tummy.

Plent of padding around my tummy - I shall now think of it as a built in air bag. I was just over nine stone in my teens with a concave tummy, but gained weight with each baby I had, and never lost all of it. I'm now three stone heavier. When I have succeeded in losing a stone or two (which inevitably snuck back on) I've been left with ghastly sagging folds of surplus flesh. My DDs insist that it will eventually go away, but I've not succeeded in keeping my weight down long enough to find out.

Bahama!

Got wobbly bits. Used to be called love handles.

Luckygirl Sat 30-Jul-16 15:07:21

I think it is normal in middle-aged women who have had children. Don't fret about it - my OH thinks it is a great cushion to fall asleep on!

Okay this is drastic but has anyone tried liposuction or even had an apronectomy? Most of our tummies will disappear, Simming World for longer than two years helped, but there is a time when you choose between shrunken boobs.

Do try the 5_2 diet, I got rid of 3 st. and have kept it off. Becomes a way of life.

I am 65 and only recently have developed a sticky out tummy . I hate it and no undergarment seems to make it flat . I have always had a flat tummy , even after the 4 children , c sections , multiple operations . I guess it must be an age thing and everything has lost tone . My bust has also gone from a B cup to a D , something I would have loved when younger but dislike now . Will have a look at the `Wear your own bra" thing on Amazon !!

Recently had my 60th birthday I've been a size 8 all my life, then I stopped HRT 2 years ago I'm now a tight 10 with one of those tummys that make you look pregnant. I really don't mind putting on the bit of weight but the tummy is a real nuisance. So I've been to a nutritionist I've had a consultation with a personal trainer as losing weight does not get rid of the tummy. It's visceral fat that sits round your organs it's really really tough to loose, dieting won't necessarily loose it as you have to eat a range of all the food types if you cut out certain foods to loose weight you could be cutting out the wrong food to fight fat round belly. It's also about your BMR not your BMI,it's also a hormone issue it's a real minefield that's why I asked for help. Don't be fooled into all these tummy busting exercises all that does is build muscle on top of fat. Good luck

I've never had a flat tummy, even in my teens at seven and a half stone (height 5' 1"). Now I vary between 8st and about 8st 5lb. I'm trying to cut down on carbs (something Michael Mosely recommends). My tummy flattened a bit over Christmas when DH was in hospital because with on-one here to worry and nag me about not eating I deliberately ate as little as possible to reduce weight and I was walking quite a long way to the hospital every day. DD2 after two children has no tummy at all. My bottom is flatter now I'm older. There were some pictures of celebrities in the newspaper with flat tummies - but all thanks to Spanx so I felt a bit cheated. They probably didn't have flat tums at all. Also I saw a picture of Anna Wintour watching Wimbledon - she has serious bingo wings. That cheered me up!

HaHaHa Don't we just wish (grin) (grin) (grin) at 58 I do abs training and although smaller than it was I know I will never have a flat stomach only when I lay down and breathe it in, just accept it, I do exercise daily, and as long as I feel happy with my effort and hubby is, no need to please any one else.

Nelliemoser Sun 31-Jul-16 17:59:50

DO we get measured standing up or lying down? wink.

BBbevan Mon 01-Aug-16 06:38:47

No flat stomach. But I have lost over 2 stone so can now see hip bones with a much diminished wobbly bit between

gettingonabit Mon 01-Aug-16 08:39:03

Hip bones?envy. Well done on your weight loss. smile.

The person at my gym with the most enviable, toned and gorgeous figure is a mum and gran and over 70. She's absolutely lovely (and SO fit) but obviously as she's ruined the age/kids-make-you-gain-weight myth for the rest of us I can't be her friend grin

angmhay Mon 01-Aug-16 16:09:07

Mine is definitely an age thing. Have resigned myself to it, but still hate it!

Jane10 Mon 01-Aug-16 16:09:48

Mine is pie related!

GrandmaMoira Mon 01-Aug-16 16:56:19

I'm 64 and size 12 to 14. I still had a fairly flat stomach in my 50s but now it's very flabby. I lost a fair bit of weight and whilst I'm happy with my size, everything is much more flabby, especially my arms.

mrshat Mon 01-Aug-16 18:19:42

I wish!
