The thread is intended to support people who are already on the diet or want to start losing weight / gaining health benefits by low-carbing.
Here is a simple explanation of this way of eating and how it works.

You do not have to count calories, weigh anything, exercise furiously or feel hungry.
You do have to cut out sugar and sugar-substitutes and avoid starchy foods like potatoes, bread, rice and pasta.
You need to eat lots of vegetables (especially those grown above ground) and protein which can be cheese, eggs, meat, fish etc. You can eat olive oil, butter and other natural fats. You can eat limited amounts of fruit, dark chocolate and some alcoholic drinks in moderation.
You need to avoid anything labelled low-fat and most processed food and drink.

That sounds interesting Araabra , but what is it ? ?
Broad beans soaked and cooked. Added savory sauce. Gammon joint cooked. Use leftovers with glaze removed. Serve the pork over the saucy beans.
Just had a look at the recipes and it does sound nice. I see that it is a speciality dish from Luxembourg. Is that where you are Araabra?
Our brave little broad bean plants have survived the winter well, apart from a dastardly attack from below by the wretched mole. ☹️
We are still on winter food here; vegetable tagine last night and shepherd's pie with cauliflower mash tonight.
Mom was Luxembourger. The winter dish uses salted pork or leftover ham and broad beans.
OH loves goulash over cauliflower rice or spiralized courgette.
Tonight we will have Cod in Tamarind, Coriander and Fenugreek sauce from 'Persiana'
I think this is my most used cook book and I'm always singing its praises to DH who takes a keen interest in the recipes I use.
'I don't think I've ever heard of him' now makes me realise that for months he's been wondering why he hasn't seen Percy Arna on the telly 
This is the same man who for years thought John Torode was called Jonty Rhodes.

HELP NEEDED. I started this diet in January and have been doing quite well - even lost 1lb while away lost about half a stone in a month. However I have received some very upsetting information regarding DS health prognosis which has left me in bits for a few days and have gone completely overboard have had chips, crackers and wine. I have put a little weight back on obviously but am so upset that I need someone to give some motivation/hug/advice/kick up the ....please. I know I will calm down as this was a reaction I had when he was first ill, but I just want some wise words. 

Oh my goodness, poor you. Sending a big hug. I think you need to be kind to yourself and just do what you can. Does dark chocolate work as a comfort food? Do you love any sort of cheese that works without the crackers?
You could just forget about the diet for a bit, but I am sensing that it would make you feel worse? I think my reaction would be to indulge in a few treats whilst avoiding the sugary things that might send your emotions up and down even more. ?

NewgranGill. Congratulations on how well you've done so far. How upsetting for you about your DS, so big hugs and understandable that you have been comfort eating. Odd glass of dry wine isn't a problem and I think Mamie's advice is good, don't beat yourself over occasional treat. Keep in touch as lots of support for you here.
Thanks all. I did get back on track yesterday and no wine!! Lazigirl if only it had been a glass or two - more like a bottle or two. Still on wards and upwards as they say. I still feel knocked for six but there is nothing I can do. As I said I went through something like this first when we found out about his tumour and then later when we found out he would always be in a wheelchair so it's just a matter of getting by really BUT I STILL HAVE TO LOSE WEIGHT IF ONLY TO CONTINUE CARING FOR HIM.

We had family staying for a few days and I too have over indulged, but I'm back on track today. Everyone has blips, we're human after all. You have good reason and motivation to stick with it NewgranGill. 
Havnt posted for a while ( but I lurk!!). I am a gat fan of cauliflower rice and find it a wonderful alternative to potatoes and roast parsnips etc. I buy three of four at a time and blitz and then freeze in portion size. What I wondered is, what does everyone flavour tears with. I have tried straight with no flavour which is great, then curry powder, cardomon and cumin. I need inspiration for more please ladies.

Izabella, I too am a great fan of caul, as mash, roast or rice. For the rice (and roast), I sometimes stir through some chopped, cooked bacon and a small amount of leek and/or cheese, before giving it a burst in the oven on a tray.
I don't always blitz cauliflower Izabella but I roast it quite a bit with olive oil, smoked paprika etc, and sprinkle with walnuts or sunflower seeds. I'm not keen on blitzed cauli after it's been frozen, it has a funny smell. I've taken to roasting most things this winter, even sprouts. Lovely.

I make cauliflower saffron mash and parmesan mash.
A huge favourite is to steam or lightly boil florets and finish in the oven with butter and parmesan.
I cook as an accompaniment to spicy food with garlic, ginger, cumin, coriander, turmeric etc.
I have just started this diet as My DH was told his blood sugar levels are very high. He has type 2 diabetes & completely ignores the fact so it is no great surprise.
I need to lose some weight so suggested we do it together. Hard for him as he doesn't like vegetables but he is giving it a go.
It is only day 2 but I feel really dizzy. Is this something anyone recognises? I am a big coffee drinker but as I like it from the machine with lots of froth I have not had any since Sunday so I wonder if it could be lack of caffeine related. Not sure how much milk I can have in a day. There are probably better books than the one I am using (Michael Mosely one) so any advice will be much appreciated.

You need to drink plenty of water.
Some people cut out milk (because of natural sugars in milk) in the first stages and put cream in their coffee instead. I carried on with milk, but it depends how strict you want to be.

Oddly I have just had my frothy coffee & feel a bit better so maybe I have to have one or 2 a day. I'll see what happens tomorrow when I don't have one. I have just gone back to beginning & signed up for advice.
DGC coming to stay tonight for a few days so that is going to be difficult but at least it is at the beginning of this way of eating so I am still feeling positive. No bread in house though so they will not be happy with their dippy eggs tomorrow morning. I think I have some crumpets in the freezer which may do for them & get them out of the way for us too.

We didn't do bootcamp and took it fairly gently at first. It took longer to lose the weight, but worked for us.
