Here is a simple explanation of this way of eating and how it works.

You do not have to count calories, weigh anything, exercise furiously or feel hungry.
You do have to cut out sugar and sugar-substitutes and avoid starchy foods like potatoes, bread, rice and pasta.
You need to eat lots of vegetables (especially those grown above ground) and protein which can be cheese, eggs, meat, fish etc. You can eat olive oil, butter and other natural fats. You can eat limited amounts of fruit, dark chocolate and some alcoholic drinks in moderation.
You need to avoid anything labelled low-fat and most processed food and drink.

Welcome back everyone and hello to newcomers.
That is interesting about fasting Anya. We have normally finished eating by about 6.45 and have breakfast about 8.30. We have been working a lot in the garden (sings lumberjack song) and I was thinking about how we always needed a snack with coffee before LC but never think of it now.
I was wondering tow and other, what would be most useful for you? Does saying what we are eating each day help? Do you want to say what you are eating and us to give ideas?
I watched the Food Unwrapped tonight. Thanks for pointing me to it. It was lovely to see the town I lived in for many years again and I recognised the monument, Norwood Road, The Bold Hotel in Churchtown and course Dr Unwin.
Another interesting thing I've taken from the programme was the idea of 16:8 fasting.
I was forcing myself to eat breakfast even though I'm never hungry in the mornings. What I've been doing is to make lunch my first meal of the day and to have the yoghurt and berries I'd normally have for breakfast as a dessert after dinner, followed by cheese and nuts.
My 'hungry' time was always early evening, so while I'm firmly low carb, I'm also eating to my own natural time clock now, and while it's more like 15:9 (fasting from 21.00-12.00) it works for me.
I haven't tried low carbing yet but I feel like a beached whale after all the unhealthy eating and drinking during the holidays. The last of my visitors left this afternoon and tomorrow it's back to normality. I would like to lose a stone between now and my birthday at the end of March.
I will read through this low carb thread for some ideas before I go shopping tomorrow.
Happy New Year. I haven't posted too much but have been following the low carb diet in a very mild way for almost a year and have lost nearly a stone with no effort at all. Put on a couple of pounds over Christmas, so will start again now and if as successful this year will be down almost to a healthy weight. I can't recommend it highly enough for those grans wondering whether to give it a go..

I was in Montpellier for Christmas and ate quite a lot of fish, but pigging out since I came home I have gained a bit.I seem to be maintaining weight around 8st 7lbs which I hope will keep diabetes 2 at bay. I am just 5' 1" so could probably do with losing a bit more. One thing I have noticed since eating low carb is that I can't eat much sweet stuff but find it sickly.
I missed the programme too.

Best advice. Plan ahead what you're going to eat and don't have High Carbs in the house. You Can Do It.

Another Christmas and had-a-nasty-virus-so-want-comfort-food-wobbler here and put on a couple of pounds too. But just been on the scales and it's all off again.
Used my tagine for a very simple veggie supper last night involving onions, garlic, mushrooms, peppers and tomatoes sautéed, seasoned then eggs dropped into little hollows I made in the mixture and grated cheese over everything and the lid put on for 4-5 minutes. Very tasty and surprisingly filling.
We were just settling down to watch TV when next door neighbours arrived upset and distressed as their carbon monoxide detectors were going off, so hosted them for a couple of hours until gas emergency service had sorted things. Hoping you've all got functioning CO detectors as I dread to think what would have been the outcome for that family if they hadn't had them.

We had a quiet Christmas with just the two of us and we spent a lot of it flogging away in the garden chopping and hauling, so still in maintenance mode here, but happy to help and support. 
Well tow I wobbled a bit over Christmas. The odd mince pie and bowl of trifle, but luckily not put any weight on. LCHF is now a way of life for me and I find the help and empathy on this thread very helpful. So stick with it and all will be well 
Good morning , I lost 3 stone on the LCHF diet last year , but fell off the wagon at the end of September . The weight started piling back on at an upsetting speed, clothes are tight again , knees aching . Damn and bugger !
However last nights programme has got me back on the rails again , it was like a lifeline to me , exactly what I needed !
Eggs for breakfast , I've flung out the bread and left over goodies, and will fill the fridge this morning with simple foods .

Very quiet here as just the two of us, but I like the gentler, less frenetic Christmases in France. We will watch the grandchildren open their presents on Skype, then eat roast goose, roast vegetables and Malaga raisin ice-cream.

Nasty virus, Anya. I had a bad cold recently and the cough is still there occasionally. Now down to the weight I was aiming at for Christmas - not the ideal weight yet, but I can get into a number of outfits I've been reluctant to send to the charity shops.
We are off to the back of beyond for Christmas. Broadband will be worse then here. So Happy Christmas lovely ladies.Enjoy it all. I intend to have 1 mince pie, 1 piece of cake and a big bit of Christmas pudding.

Oh poor you. Sounds like one of those almost flu viruses. Have managed to avoid a cold so far, but exposure to the grandchildren often brings one on!
My OH would be feeding you home-made chicken soup. He is sitting picking bits off a carcass as I write.
