Well done ginny.

So right Monica. It's taken me 62 years to realise it but Slimming World has gote on the right track and I am eating more but have lost 3 St since January.

Keeping weight off is more about your mind than what you put in your mouth. If you see loosing weight as cutting out things you like and getting back to 'normal' as being able to eat the way you did when you put the weight on then you are going to be yo-yo dieting until the end.

If you really want to lose weight and keep it off you have to decide that that is more important to you than that second glass of wine or third chocolate biscuit. You have to retrain your mind into little changes in your eating patterns that will with practice become the norm and even preferred. Get your mind right and there is no question of being 'careful' or indulging. Just of eating slightly differently and enjoying it with the same zest you enjoyed your previous eating pattern.

Keeping off 5lbs with minor changes in your eating pattern shouldn't be that hard. I lost 2 stone on the 5:2 two years ago and it hasn't gone back on again.

But it is the mental adjustment that does it.

Tomorrow I will be eating out for the 6th time this week (not usual I hasten to add).Bang goes the three pounds I lost last week .
I have no will power I have decided .
I suspect the problem is I am quite 'controlled' in many aspects of life and this is my rebellion..

YankeeGran Sat 13-Aug-16 11:43:26

I get tired of being "careful" when I'm at home, so I suppose that's why I indulge when I have an excuse (and sometimes when I don't). My feeling is that life is too short to give up everything I love, but I like the idea, JoyBloggs, of just cutting it all by 10%. That might not be enough to lose weight, but it should be enough to maintain - even with treats!

JoyBloggs Fri 12-Aug-16 20:28:34

Same problem, Yankee! I'm hopeless at fasting or completely cutting out all the naughty stuff, so the thing that works best for me is just eating/drinking all the usual stuff but trying to have a bit less, say 10%, of everything. wine

This week I have lost the pound that I found/ gained last week. On and off it goes but at least I have managed to maintain 1.5 stone loss with sw for 3 years so all is not lost entirely. I just wish I could shift the extra stone which refuses to go...and on the subject, where does the weight go anyway. ?

How close are you to your target weight? If you have a target, that is..

I find that the (relatively) slimmer I am, the harder it is to get and keep those pesky pounds off.

I went badly off the rails myself this week and it wasn't even a "proper" occasion. I seem to have to be so strict all the timesad.

I agree with those who suggest making permanent changes. I've cut out coffee/tea because I can't take it without sugar. I've pretty much cut out bread, spuds, rice and pasta too. As well as upping exercise.

I think it's a battle never truly won..sad.

My weight seems to go up an down like a whore's drawers, and in a quite short period of time.blush

I think some of it is probably connected with giving up smoking, but it seems odd that one week I can comfortably fit into a particular pair of jeans, the next week I struggle, then it's ok againconfused

YankeeGran Fri 12-Aug-16 17:40:52

I've wondered about the 5:2 and I know it works for some people, but I'm afraid that after being good for one day, I'd probably make up for it on the others! I think I need more discipline. I did greatly reduce my wine intake (it was either that or give up sugar) and that helped get the weight down by 5 lbs, but I'm still wobbling where I am. It's the sugar cravings that undo me.

Fasting should do it, and it is not hard. If you don' t eat until lunchtime on some days you will have already fasted 16 hrs. Most of them asleep Or you could do the 5:2 when you need to lose weight.

I could have written your post yankeegran No I wish I had the answer Other than going into purdah and never socialising .....

I vary between 8lbs. More than that and I become very strict with myself.
To keep the 5lbs off permanently, it requires a permanent change of some sort.
If you really want to do it permanently, then you would have decide what to change or cut out permanently.

Other than that, I do read from time to time, articles which say swap this high calorie thing, for this lower calorie food, which might be an idea for you to look into? That way you could still have your meal/holiday/celebration foods.

YankeeGran Fri 12-Aug-16 15:53:06

Is it me or is anyone else having persistent trouble losing the same damn 5 lbs? I always seem to be saying/thinking: I need to lose a few pounds- but it's always the same ones. I am very good for a few days, manage to lose, say, 3 lbs and then go out for a meal/on holiday/to a celebration - and gain them all back (if not more). So, then it's back to losing the same ones all over again.

Even though it's only a few pounds, they can quickly become more if not brought under controlDo. Does anyone have any helpful suggestions about staying on track and REALLY getting to grips with that elusive weight loss?
