Frugal February

Anyone like to join me in this?

You can set your own ‘frugal’ guidelines but the aim is to eat and drink in a more restrained (and healthy) manner that usual just for 28 days.

I did this last year and lost those few extra pounds that nobody wants. For those who have more than a few pounds to shift it can kick start a real weight loss plan for 2018.

It can be combined with 16:8 and any other ‘diets’ you are following.

So, anyone out there want to join in for 28 days and we’ll share ideas and support each other? ?

I just was thinking "i'll end up looking like an egg if I eat any more".
Then I realised I already do! grin

I'm here - we were food shopping this morning and I was trying to put back things that DH had sneaked into the trolley. He's not taking it seriously but then he hasn't got as far to go as me.

I casn't manage on two meals a day so I had poached egg on small piece of gf bread, home-made vegetable soup and some yogurt.
Fish Friday this evening - fish and vegetables not battered with chips and mushy peas.

I've had porridge for breakfast, a big bowl (with sugar) and wraps with scrambled eggs and tomatoes just now.
Its not perfect, but its a start. I need to buy supplies, then I can stop eating eggs all the time!

Tegan in years gone by I've gone to bed early to save me from temptation - not quite as early as that though! grin

I'm here. smile So far, so good. Got FiL coming tomorrow for his birthday tea. He was 83 yesterday and loves his food, especially puddings, biscuits and cake! grin

It won't be too much of a problem for me because I don't like pigging out in front of others! Just hope there not too many left overs! grin

Where is everyone? Have they all fallen by the wayside on Day 2 except for Maggie & Tegan?

Tegan2 Fri 02-Feb-18 12:05:50

Yes; I've done 12 hours without eating and the scales do look a lot better today. However, I must stick with going to the gym; someone told me there that muscle actually makes us burn more calories. I'm sure those muscles are in there somewhere just waiting to pop out. Prepared todays meal last night; remains of the salmon; broccoli, peas and mashed potato.

Stick with it Maggie not many of us (certainly not l) could have resisted.

It’s 10.00 am, not eaten since 7.00pm last night so that’s 15 hours which will do for me. I’m not sure what I can eat with this jagged tooth catching my tongue eveytime I try to speak or eat.

What’s harder, not eating or not talking? ?? ?

A bad start for me on day 1. Just a tomato sandwich for lunch and no breakfast or snacks. But I was out for my tea and the waiter brought chips instead of the veg I’d ordered as a side. When it became apparent he wasn’t coming back with the veg I just ate all the chips, which were delicious. I don’t suppose the spicy meatballs with cheese starter and the half a carafe of wine were very frugal either. Things can only get better.

First day over. Well done folks. I’ve been very frugal

B/F Poached egg yolk on 1 piece of toast
Lunch mug of tomato & basil soup
Mid afternoon snack homemade tea loaf
Dinner smoked haddock & spinach pot a la Hairy Dieters & raspberries and cream

Tooth hurting so no inclination to eat more.

I've eaten fairly frugally (for me!) I can't say I've particularly enjoyed it, although have just had some eggs on crispbreads with tomatoes. I know its late to eat, but..
I have also cut my sugar down from 2 to 1 large spoonful.

Jalima1108 Thu 01-Feb-18 19:40:20

Grandmama
Yes, we have two (goodly) portions of macaroni cheese left which we had for lunch yesterday.

Grandmama Thu 01-Feb-18 19:38:00

31 Jan: ate up the biscuits in the tin ready for today.
1 Feb: Have started. No more Portuguese tarts from the Coop bakery, Twirls, biscuits sad.
Today: 7.45am home-made sugar free nut and seed mixture for breakfast.
12.30pm: Main meal
5.00pm: A bowl of home-made fresh fruit salad Will have an apple at bedtime.
7.30pm: Craving a choc Hob Nob sad sad
Might be better to have the apple after the fruit salad so that there is a 15 hour fast.
Determined to shift 8 pounds by Easter but need to pare down calories a bit more.

DERAIL not detail!

OldMeg Thu 01-Feb-18 19:13:03

I think sometimes we inadvertently eat things we think are ‘good for us’ but which actually detail our efforts. Fruit IMO falls into this category. And fruit juices are to be avoided at all costs, but again only IMO. I rarely eat fruit and if I do then it’s berries.

Now vegetables, they get the thumbs up from me.

Funnygran Thu 01-Feb-18 18:44:37

OldMeg that sounds better if I think I could lose two stone in a year. I think the motivation might have gone by then! I’m laughing at defrosting things and finding they aren’t what you thought they were as have done that myself. There’s a plastic container in my freezer with no label and it has something inside which is a strange orange colour. Either puréed carrot or puréed mango but don’t remember having leftovers of either. Speaking of strange food combinations 93 year old MIL assured me the other day that she had read a tip to put a few prunes into home made Scotch broth. She says it was delicious but since she is often a little confused about things I am wondering if anyone else has heard of this.

Tegan2 Thu 01-Feb-18 17:10:52

I've had salmon and broccoli and a couple of satsumas. Did a walk today and went to the gym last night. Going to the cinema [where I usually, I'm afraid, suck a few sweets blush] but hope not to eat anything when I get home. What is the best sweetener to get? I'm using Xylitol at the moment, just to use it up, but I'm not supposed to take it. And I think aspartamine unhealthy. My sugar intake has crept up over the past year or so; usually because of my turmeric drinks and I do have sugar in coffee [stupid, really because I would never dream of having it in tea].

Jalima1108 Thu 01-Feb-18 16:59:11

I don't even know what we're having tomorrow!
But it will be fish.
Although we do have enough soup left over from today for lunch tomorrow.

OldMeg Thu 01-Feb-18 16:57:17

Actually I think you are amazing Caveperson ??

cavewoman Thu 01-Feb-18 16:11:56

Actually I think I sound rather smug blush
