Frugal February

Anyone like to join me in this?

You can set your own ‘frugal’ guidelines but the aim is to eat and drink in a more restrained (and healthy) manner that usual just for 28 days.

I did this last year and lost those few extra pounds that nobody wants. For those who have more than a few pounds to shift it can kick start a real weight loss plan for 2018.

It can be combined with 16:8 and any other ‘diets’ you are following.

So, anyone out there want to join in for 28 days and we’ll share ideas and support each other? ?

Speaking of fish I must thank WW for sharing her fish curry recipe.
We had tandoori cod with (half fat) coconut milk and jasmine rice. Delicious.
For tonight OH has requested chicken pie from Sundays leftover roast. He needs a MANS meal. To be fair I have inflicted my frugal ways upon him and he really doesn't need to lose weight.
So I will make said pie and try to keep my portion tiny.

Not long until Thursday OldMeg Every cloud......

Yes, it is hard WW luckily (?) for me I don’t have much choice with this blasted tooth issue, so I’m looking on that as a blessing! Get it fixed (IF the dentist can actually get the crown on and it stays on) on Thursday. Just hoping I don’t go bananas.

Though I do feel better for what’s become a pescatarian diet. Fish and vegetables only.

whitewave Tue 13-Feb-18 07:50:03

Pancake day today, anyone indulging?

Thought I might have one at lunch time instead of lunch if you know what I mean?

Yesterday I ate one too many sandwiches. So that was two flat bread thingies and should have had just one as gone up 1/2 lb. one didnt look much of it. But our evening meal was simply a fish - mackerel with chilli and lime dressing and a tiny amount of rice noodles, so really that should have compensated.

Isn’t it hard?

Thanks to all for your inspiration.
Not too worried about my weight as BMI is in the normal range. However my waist to height ratio is too high at 50% so I want to lose 1 1/2" off waist to get in the healthy range. Maybe that goal is unrealistic but I will battle on. Trying to shrink some belly fat. I have a lovely size 14 Monsoon dress which would look great if my tum didn't protrude so much. Have hung dress up on bedroom door for motivation. Finding 16:8 diet manageable. Have cut out refined sugar and had to stop buying cheese!

Just coming up for 7.00pm so that’s me done eating until 10.00am tomorrow morning.

Today, tomatoes, broccoli, peas, cauliflower rice, pepper plus other plant based foods, quinoa, soy, lime and ginger.
Not forgetting some fermented grape juice ?

Do Eskimos still exist cavewoman I thought they’d be renamed ...or was that Jordan ?

cavewoman Mon 12-Feb-18 14:47:35

I'm reminded of the dreadful Cabbage Soup diet of the 70's.
Why was it cabbage? Why not tomato or any other vegetable?
This weather is making me hungry. Don't eskimos eat whale fat for insulation or is that what they smother themselves with? blush
Lack of food has addled my brain!
Actually I've probably eaten better these past 2 weeks than I have in years.
Roll on spring. sunshine

MissAdventure Mon 12-Feb-18 13:53:50

Right. I'm off the naughty step, and hoping to do much better this week.

Tegan2 Mon 12-Feb-18 13:29:41

Yep; almost beats 'The Mars Bar Diet' that I did a few years ago. And definitely beats 'The Brown Rice Diet' that me and a friend did over 40 years ago [and we still talk about to this day; I cheated and put Worcester sauce on mine but she ate hers 'straight' #respect!].

OldMeg Mon 12-Feb-18 13:24:40

??? brilliant Tegan - the New Revolutionary Diet aka The Rip Van Winkle Diet.

Tegan2 Mon 12-Feb-18 12:52:30

Was woken up at the crack of dawn by a nuisance sales phone call, but because of that, when I got back to sleep I slept till 12 blush and the weight I put on over the weekend has gone., so I'm back on track. I've even got a box of Celebration chocolates in the living room that I haven't been tempted to eat. This is the sort of thing that, if I start eating, I'll just carry on 'to get rid of them'. I did ask the S.O. to take them to his house, but he forgot, so I'm now using them as a means of testing my resolve.

Thursday is the first day of Week 3 WW so you’ve still go three full days to shift 1/2lb, which is just about doable.

IMO porridge should count as 1 of your 5-a-day as it’s plant based. I count a portion of nuts as 1 - when I can eat them. Roll on Thursday.

Oh dogs ? you’d better go on the naughty step too.

dogsmother Mon 12-Feb-18 09:38:51

Three extras for Sunday roast chicken yesterday, I didn’t eat the stuffing nor any bread sauce.
However! I thought I might treat them and so made a fresh cream and jam sponge...... and guess who got to be left with most of it and couldn’t leave it alone when they had left.....

whitewave Mon 12-Feb-18 09:24:42

Today is porridge, a thin flat seeded bread square gluten free from M&S with ham and salad and Sour and hot mackerel with a spoonful of noodles.

Total calories about 1100 I think.

Is Thursday the last day of week 2? Only I’ve only seemed to have lost 1/2 lb so far and that is a bit up and down.
If I can manage lb that will be lb a week so far.

OldMeg Mon 12-Feb-18 07:59:26

Hey Frugaleers I’ve just seen this. Apt or what?

OldMeg Mon 12-Feb-18 07:53:37

That’s a good point Gilly makes - not counting potatoes as veg as far as 5-a-day.

gillybob Mon 12-Feb-18 07:41:25

I made a Sunday dinner yesterday as I have the DGC for a few days (it’s half term) and they love their proper dinners. Heaps of veg which is good but also 2 Yorkshire puds, a mountain of mash (with butter of course) and lashings of gravy which is not I missed my usual long walk on the beach too (too wild for the little ones) and after eating I felt like a beached whale.

OldMeg Mon 12-Feb-18 07:33:46

Hi Cherrytree good to read you’re back on track. I’m fast coming to the conclusion after reading yours and everyone else’s posts that we have to expect these ‘wobbles’ as someone put it. It’s how we cope with them that’s important. So Tegan don’t beat yourself up, but don’t go on a three-day binge either. Get back on the horse.

Also your idea of an M&S dinner but with added veg sounds ideal. Go for it., they do fill you up. WW your veg was very similar to mine.

I’m planning at least 5 portions again to day. No fruit though, unless it’s a few berries.

Tegan2 Mon 12-Feb-18 00:03:38

I also ate a chunk of cheese tonight [have been craving some for ages]. But it's still better than usual; what happens is I break my diet by eating something I shouldn't and then devour everything in sight for the next day or so.

Evening OldMeg & Frugeleers

Thursday was not frugal!
A long lunch with at friends turned a marathon game of cards and supper!blush

Aim was to get back in the wagon Friday but Mil problems put paid to that.

Saturday arrived with unexpectedly looking after grandchildren at the crack of dawn as DD had come down with a bad stomach bug.

Back on track today,
Even managed a walk at local nature reserve.
Hoping that this coming week will prove to be more frugalsmile

Wishing GNers onwards and downwards

The next chapter says that those who habitually eat lots of vegetables live longer and are more healthy in old age.

MissAdventure Sun 11-Feb-18 20:52:06

I've had tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber today.

whitewave Sun 11-Feb-18 20:22:42

I’ve eaten tomatoes, red pepper, squash, onion and sweet potato.

Tegan2 Sun 11-Feb-18 20:07:21

None today blush. But I have noticed that adding lots of vegetables to my M&S ready meals really fills me up [I never thought of vegetables as being 'filling']. I've never been a great veggie eater [apart from round Christmas time]. Probably eat more in the way of fruit.

OldMeg Sun 11-Feb-18 19:58:45

Just been reading that those who are naturally slim tend to include a lot of vegetables in their diet. Just a thought and wondered what we had all eaten today veggie-wise?

I’ve had tomato, onion, courgette, peas and peppers. But I’m not always that conscientious. How about the other Frugaleers?
