Moderate March

This is the follow-on thread to Frugal February. It doesn’t really matter what we call it though.

Just keeping us all on track. Welcome back those who made it through last month and either lost weight/inches or at least didn’t put any on ??

Continuing with the idea that this isn’t about drastic weight loss but slow and steady life-style change. And support for each other.

For newcomers who might like to jump on, this isn’t advocating any particular diet or eating regime. There’s no ‘one size fits all’ and everyone really knows what works best for them if they are being truly honest.

Thought if we tackle it a month at a time it would seem more manageable. So good luck Moderators.

Strong motivation Tegan

I feel so much better this month and, even though the weight on my scales hasn't come down I know that I've lost inches. I'm sure I was on the way to being pre diabetic etc. My joints feel better and I'm sleeping better, too. Even the tinnitus I was suffering from seems to have gone [touch wood]. I'm determined not to let this happen to me again.

PS She noticed I had lost weight.

My friend has the Newfoundland’s not me. She currently staying with me for her classes at Crufts. I was helping her bath and groom them - it’s a 2-person job as you can imagine.

A friend of mine had a Newfoundland, bugger to take to the beach.

Would insist on trying to rescue people swimming, whether they wanted rescuing or not! grin

They're gorgeous; someone I know breeds them. He says the different colours have totally different personalities.

OldMeg Wed 07-Mar-18 17:47:04

?

OldMeg Wed 07-Mar-18 17:45:55

Get a Newfoundland or better still, get two!

Tegan2 Wed 07-Mar-18 17:05:59

My dog [whippet] just needs wiping over with a cloth every now and again; perhaps I need a dog that uses up more calories grin. She also doesn't like going out for walks when it's wet or cold...

Made myself a smoothie for lunch as I was running late. I found a bag of frozen smoothie mix I’d bought last month from Tesco. It was mainly kale with a few green beans and the odd slice of kiwi fruit and a few lumps of mango.

I blended it with just 100ml of apple juice and 100mls water and .....surprise! it was quite drinkable and refreshing.

Feeling virtuous with all that raw kale inside me.

Then I washed and dried the dogs! That was certainly up to one of your gym sessions Tegan. Wrestling match to get them in and out of the bath and stop them jumping out, while holding the shower head in one hand, and shampooing with the other. Then drying them with the hairdryer (one hand) holding them still (2nd hand) and brushing them (3rd hand). I’m totally knackered now.

And that’s a very important point about work. With more women working, yet they were still expected to be the provider of a hot meal at night, they could hardly be blamed for resorting to ready meals .....or popping into the local Wimpy for a burger.

OldMeg Wed 07-Mar-18 15:00:17

Yes, agree totally. It’s the freezer that’s to blame in the main.

Greenfinch Wed 07-Mar-18 13:29:47

I saw it last night and agree with you completelyTegan If I had had a busy day at work,I would dive into the nearest Wimpy for a burger which tasted lovey because of all the salt etc that was added. I don't add salt to anything now but still really miss it.

Has anyone been watching the new Back in time for Dinner series? It's no wonder so many of us struggle with our weight; once ready meals were available and people owned freezers etc it became to much easier to overeat and snack on rubbish. My big downfall used to be ice cream; when feeling down I could eat loads of the stuff.

Had famil round last night so made a huge beef stew with horseradish dumplings as per Mary Berry. I made the stew the night before and the grandchildren helped make the dumplings (I didn’t put horseradish in theirs).

An old fashioned meal. The stew had lots of shallots, carrots and mushrooms in it and I served it with Savoy cabbage.

No wonder people were thinner in those days. A smallish portion filled me and everybody up. And didn’t feel hungry all night.

This has been my approach and it’s working. Good old fashioned food made from scratch with loads of vegetables.

On board.

Got to the gym/sauna today and was chuffed to find that I'd cracked the 10st mark on the scales at the gym. Also, as usual, the chat in the sauna is often about diet/exercise/dieting etc. One guy had lost 6 st, started to put it back on again and is now back on track with slimming world, so we all do it, don't we sad.

On board... I have lost 3lb in my first week, just by cutting portions and counting calories. Get a bit hungry in the late evenings though, last night I had a few grapes and an apple.

Bluebell123 Tue 06-Mar-18 18:17:30

On board and battling on. Struggling with cravings for evening snacks. Will have celery stuffed with low fat Philly this evening though.

Just checking in and seeing who’s still in board.

Had a hearing test in town today and had several hours to kill before I met up with the S.O. so walked and walked. Have just had a latte and a flapjack and am now going to have my turmeric milky drink before I go to bed. Still the same weight, but definitely thinner; clothes far more comfortable. Going to the gym tomorrow. Must have walked a lot as my feet are killing me....

Haha, meagre March ? Hello Seacliff, hardest part I think is addressing the issue so like the rest of us, onwards and downwards. I find walking rhe best excercise and try to do as much as I can. However, after all the snow and bad weather not so doable. Just had my lunch, some delicious fresh fruit thats in season here. How I love nectarines and peaches. Anyway, have to go. That’s the two minute warning from OH as we have to be somewhere very soon. See you all later ?

Nandalot Sun 04-Mar-18 18:53:59

After jaunty January( a cruise for our 50th), and feel hungry all the time February, may I be a late starter at meagre March? I shall rejoin my slimming club on Tuesday but have started this weekend. I’ve had too many ‘last day before I start’ blowouts over the last few weeks.
Sorry slip of the keypad.. Moderate March!

Tegan2
I have a couple of friends who used to feel bloated after a slice of bread. They found gluten free bread was the answer for them. Bread is my downfall ( among other things!) so I freeze it and only have the occasional piece of toast with griiled tomatoes or mushrooms on top. I found a lovely wholemeal sliced sugar free loaf.
