Now Easter is over , I really need to get to tackle my weight. Cutting out snacks, small meals, cutting down on sugar and fat and exercising. So all best wishes to those who are watching their weight.

Having just returned from the holiday from hell, which also seemed to involve eating far too much, I need to start again. Haven't weighed myself yet, but scared to do so! However, I can now really start with getting my life in order. In fact, I have just weighed myself and it isn't quite as bad as I feared. Although it's for a sad reason [the loss of my dog] I can now plan a few holidays; something that, in the past, always inspired me to lose weight and tone up.

Meant to say, I call it my healthy eating plan - never describe it as a diet!

A couple of years ago my daughter got engaged and I was determined to lose some weight before the wedding which was less than 6 months later. (I have had a weight problem most of my life and was about to turn 70.) I cut out virtually all processed food. Ate lots of veg and salad, plus lean meat, fish, eggs, cheese, bacon and occasionally sausages (which I love). Ate fresh fruit in place of desserts, and a few plain nuts in place of crisps etc. I didn't have a target weight, but took encouragement from each pound I lost. Ended up losing 3 stone by the wedding and a further 7lbs following the wedding though those extra pounds have slipped back on. I am currently working on removing them again, and hopefully make further progress. I feel generally better than I have done in years and just kick myself that I didn't do something about it much sooner as sadly the skin is not as elastic as it used to be!

I've managed to lose over a stone since October just by eating more fresh food. I still enjoy my home made cakes but chocolate fortunately doesn't agree with me. I swim and do Pilates but loathe walking. I allow myself a daily snack - if I feel like one - of nuts and sultanas. I'm not one for specific diets as I slip off the wagon so easily but changing my eating habits gradually has made me feel a lot better

Well done Kacee. That is brilliant! I remember when you started. You are a STAR !!!

Good luck to everybody trying to lose weight and well done to those who are succeeding! I’d love to lose about 12lbs but I’m so weak willed. Have just bought The Clever Guts Diet because I often feel very bloated and uncomfortable. Wish me luck!

Thank you Kim

I lost almost 2 stone last year but my Diabetes was out of control. Now with a change of tablets Diabetes is under control but I've put just over a stone back on.

I have porridge with blueberries & a little syrup for breakfast. Lunch is mainly salad, lots of crunchy celery & peppers.

Dinner is more often than not chicken, couple of baby potatoes & lots of veg. I have 1 or 2 pieces of fruit during the day. I also have a handful of almonds or walnuts per day (nuts are good for you in moderation). I like dark chocolate 70% or more, so I will usually have 1 or 2 squares. My downfall is coffee, usually only 2 cups per day but with 2 tsps sugar, nothing hits the spot quite like it.

Summer is better for me as I do get out into the garden more. I can't walk very far without pain. I have however started Pilates classes which I enjoy. I rarely drink alcohol.

Good luck to all of you trying to lose weightflowers

Kacee, I've often been told that 1lb a week is the way to go and it looks like that's your method. Good luck with the remainder. I envisage nothing but success for you. I'm so impressed.

Almost reached my Easter target. Now back to square one, I found (and devoured) the chocolate I'd squirrelled away. sad

Burypudding Thu 05-Apr-18 18:46:45

I’ve got a pedometer today! I’ve done 190 steps by sitting still and I’ve burnt off 4.4 calories! Yeah! I can have a breath of fresh air!

I’ve lost 2 stones since I was last on here. I’ve not dieted, I just had my leg chopped off! ?

Wheniwasyourage Thu 05-Apr-18 18:05:49

knspol, I've just done the same. It was good while it lasted, but visitors and Easter eggs have ruined the effect of the flu. sad I know, I know, nobody forced the Easter Eggs down my throat, but isn't it compulsory to eat them?

Lots of good ideas here, well done to those who are losing or planning to lose weight and/or get fitter. I need to lose some (quite a lot of some, I’m afraid!) as my blood sugar has crept up. I like the Michael Mosley book and have joined the Facebook group but do miss weekly meetings. Think I’ll go to the Slimming World classes for support and encouragement and follow the 8 wk blood sugar plan as I prefer the food!

We are away at the moment, so swimming and generally eating less.

Looking forward to summer in the garden and more dog walking. ?

Kacee Thu 05-Apr-18 17:34:23

Thank you for nice comments. It took me just over a year to do it but I still have another 2.5 stone to go confused

Horton1828 Thu 05-Apr-18 17:27:47

I absolutely love this conversation, really made me giggle. I think we all try our best to be ‘good’ and some of us fall by the wayside more than we want to. I’ve started to listen to some self hypnosis on utube, gotta say, I actually think it’s working. I find I’m not always looking for and thinking about food as much. Give it a try folks, if nothing else, it certainly helps to relax. I just put in ‘hypnosis for weight loss’. Good luck and lets hope the summer is great x

starlily106 Thu 05-Apr-18 17:08:09

Oh, how I wish I had only 10lbs to lose.blush

Kim19 Thu 05-Apr-18 16:30:55

Kacee, brag away all you like. That is one terrific achievement. I'd be interested how long that loss took you, please? Now comes the additional challenge of keeping it off. Bravo you!

Tessa101 Thu 05-Apr-18 15:28:45

Well done kacee that’s an incentive for me. Trying hard to cut out the snacks and replacing it with small amounts of fruit.

marionk Thu 05-Apr-18 15:23:18

Another one for Slimming World! Can’t understand how it works but never mind because I lost 3 stones on it last year to reach my target weight 2 weeks before Christmas and am ‘maintaining’ within the 3lb either side of target since then. Personally I can’t bear the meetings but they don’t force you to stay, you can just do the weight in. I got the first 12 weeks free from my GP and I am glad I did because they were the hardest for me, trying to work out a new food routine, but I am in the swing of it now and it feels good!

DanniRae Thu 05-Apr-18 14:07:51

I have been reading Michael Mosley's "The Clever Guts Diet" (as recommended by a Gransnetter on another thread) and so I am eating a lot more healthily. But I 'might' have a little piece of my dark chocolate Easter egg later.............well I did have a longish walk this morning! grin

OldMeg Thu 05-Apr-18 13:58:30

Well done Kacee that is simply amazing.

Kim19 Thu 05-Apr-18 13:16:47

SunnySusie, I would ask you to consider trying a life of snacks and doing without full blown meals (other than when out socialising, of course) totally. It is working rather well for me and feels totally painless. Admittedly much easier when one lives alone.

Kacee Thu 05-Apr-18 12:51:48

I don't mean to brag.....BUT......I got my certificate for losing 50 lbs at weight watchers this week

Yorkshiregirl Thu 05-Apr-18 12:51:34

Tassiegran it could be you're not eating enough. Skipping breakdast isn't good. Try Slimmingworld

Yorkshiregirl Thu 05-Apr-18 12:48:55

I put on weight due to the steroids, and 9 months of cancer treatment, which is still ongoing to some degree. Now chemotherapy and radiotherapy are over I decided to rejoin Slimmingworld as I know it works, and you can eat hearty meals.
I also got a little dog just prior to my cancer diagnosis, so I do 20 mins or more walking every day with her, and walk to the shops.
