Welcome Nfk. We are a small band of Losers, stay the samers and Increasers. However we all encourage each other to keep on track in a positive way. We all use our own method of weight loss.
Some of us have been together for over 2 years. Since the beginning of the year we have had some enthusiastic new members which has helped us all.
Onward and downward is our mantra. ?

I’m a pear ? the sequel!
(1001 Posts)On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.
However the 2 Gransnetters who have stayed the course are Fourormore and Shirleyw who have helped to keep me on the straight and narrow, most of the time ?, and kept up our spirits. Plus a few others who make an occasional entrance and departure and that is fine too - All Welcome.
Do join us the rules are simple.
Choose your own style of diet plan.
Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.
Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.
So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my mantra. I am sure both Four and Shirley will tell you their strategies.
You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.
So Onward and Downward ? in 2020 and beyond folks. Come and join us.
DH is diabetic and I've found that I can cut down sugar by up to a third in biscuits, cakes and jams and everyone seems to relish them. I seem to loose a little weight if I cut down/out fats, especially animal fats, but I am very economical to run!
Nfkdumpling well done at getting back to your usual weight. I love cooking and baking. So don't bake for myself . Every few weeks I bake for my daughter and family. But allow myself a couple of biscuits or scones if I make them. But if it's a cake can't resist licking the bowl. I make my own jams, marmalades and chutneys. That way I know exactly what goes into them and cut the amount of sugar. So far not had any failures.
Scrolling down the Active, and I'm a Pear came into view so I thought I'd pop in to see you all. And you all seem to be doing soooo well! Fantastic, you strong-willed lot!
I have at last got back down to the weight I was before I'd lost weight before Lock-down! I'm trying my best to keep going and achieve pre-Lock-down weight, but I made biscuits yesterday and they turned out rather well! (I did cut the sugar and they're oaty ones - but very more-ish.)
MiniMoon well done losing. You deserve to be pleased with yourself. Just hope I lose this week. Did 30 mins exercise on Sunday and gave the bungalow a deep clean yesterday moving furniture to do it. Counted that as my exercise as I was tired when I finished.
Cocopops love that feeling of putting clothing on and finding it to big. Some of my clothes are still larger sizes and my daughter always says I look better when I wear my size 16 rather than the odd size 20 tops I still wear. Point is there is nothing wrong with them so I wear them at home. And wear the 16 s when I go out.
Raining hard again so can't go in the garden. But will keep busy and do my exercises later. Have a good day everyone.
Hi everybody. Hope you are all keeping well. I have not dared to stand on the scales this week because I strayed from the straight and narrow!
However, this morning I put on a dress I made last summer to find it is too big . Too difficult to alter so I'm making a new one a size smaller.
Hello all. During lockdown I put on weight. I went up to ten and a half stone. I wasn't happy, but with determination over the last week, I have started lisi g the excess pounds.
I did my regular Monday morning weigh in, and today I weigh 10 st. 4 lbs.
I am very pleased with myself, and am determined to keep reducing.
Thanks guys.
Have a nice break nankate...
Good morning all? . Well done Shirleyw, goes to show good habits help. Let's hope we all have a happy and healthy week whatever the scales say! Definitely a feel of Autumn in the air. I must admit it's my favourite season although it does seem to get dark very quickly these days.! Stay cosy Whiff, not sure how much gardening be possible this week either. Have a lovely break Nankate, hope you find some lovely cafes ?
Hi folks.
Yes Shirley onwards and downwards is my mantra.
I am back to my acceptable weight since the family came to stay. It hasn’t been through my willpower more that my DS who has mental health problems from time to time has been feeling low and when I start worrying about him I lose my appetite. He seemed a bit brighter last night thankfully.
We are off tomorrow for a few days holiday. The weather is not going to be good so I am packing my waterproof trousers. No doubt we will seek refuge in nice cafes with coffee and cake ?
As I predicted I am up but very lucky as it’s 3/4 lb.
Well done Shirleyw that’s a good loss.
Shirleyw well done at the loss. After doing so for years now I find writing everything down and counting calories second nature. I even do it when I had a binge so I know exactly how many unwanted calories I ate. Decided to change my bed today instead of the weekend and changing my 4.5 duvet for my 10.5 one. As I was a bit chilly in the early hours. Have a good week everyone.
That happens to me many a time * Dorsetcupcake* , don't know why that happens...any psychologists in the house?
Like you say whif. A new week ahead...onwards and downwards nankate usually says.
Well done sarahmob
I've lost 3 lbs this week....still calorie counting, writing everything down. It's not so much of a faff now counting calories and writing everything I eat and drink, I leave it on the worktop with pen so easy to get to and eating similar foods I'm not looking up the calorie count all the time. I weigh out my food as much as I can, I even eat less to include in the calories a few weekend 'tipples'..... I only hope it lasts with me.
Have a good week guys...appears autumnal early mornings now and getting darker in the mornings....?
Well done Sarahmob at the loss. I am in the gain club this week. Pound on. My own fault had 2 binge nights. Haven't been in the garden as the weather has been awful nor did I exercise . But it's a new week so new start. Setting aside 11am for 30 mins of exercise. Must stick to it. Going to have a cuppa and read then it's trainers on getting my 500g dumbbells and strength band out. Haven't used them for a year. And get going.
Have a good week everyone.
A totally expected gain of a pound this week - it was my birthday last weekend so a few 'sins' crept in (lots actually!) and also the age old problem of loving biscuits!
Still as other 'gainers' have said - we are starting another week so, put the gains behind us (literally
) and concentrate on the new week!
to those who have added a bit - remember it's a blip and will not be the 'norm'
too to those who have lost

Yesterday's gone, there's nowt we can do
Start again now and we'll all lose a few!!!
Sorry - but it's been a long week!
Thank you Beechnut & Dorsetcupcake61. I’ll look for the Miranda Hart video, she makes me laugh! I’ve yo-yo dieted for all of my life so know about ups and downs. Invariably I say I’m not going to put the weight back on, but it creeps up and here we are again. Good luck for tomorrow’s weigh in ?
Thankyou Beechnut ?. Yes,indeed. Onwards and downwards! Good luck for tomorrow ?
Well done Sarahmob.
Think of it as just a blip Dorsetcupcake61. That’s what I’m going to do tomorrow on my weigh in as I know it will be up.
Well done Sarahmob?. Finding a motivational exercise video is hard. The only one I liked was Miranda Harts Maracca Attack. It was funny with good music which helped. Also it worked on different levels. She had a fitness expert who was doing the hardest version or you could follow Ms Harts pace which very realistic. Shes not everyones cup of tea but I definitely felt I had exercised and was entertained at the same time !
Good morning all, hope you had a lovely week?.
Oh dear 3 and a quarter pounds ON ?.
Normally I would have to go on holiday to achieve that! I wish I had indulged in cake/ sweets/dessert but nope, even refused maltesers when daughter visited!
I have had a "hungry" week though. I dont know if anyone else has experienced that? I have before when diet going well then suddenly feel genuinely hungry.
Theres nothing treat like in the house but what I have got I've ate more of! Had nuts for snacks or if hungry in evening a bowl of cereal bran flakes or weetabix, skimmed milk no sugar.
Still seems a lot to gain though☹. Still I think it shows the importance of measuring carbs and keeping a food diary!
As for next week will have 2 choices. I can either start on very strict calorie control regime or my daughter dropped off her unwanted supply of slimfast which might use for two of the 7 days as a bit of a boost! Fingers crossed! Good luck everyone ?
Good morning all, just weighed in and the scales say 2 and a half pounds off this week. Still going in the right direction but it’s not easy is it? Trying to find some way of exercising too, YouTube is helping with this, but my motivation is low, it’s not a habit yet ?
If anyone wants an Easiyo yogurt maker Lakeland have an offer on at the moment by a box of yoghurt mix and get a yogurt maker for £1.
Shirleyw that's brilliant. Bet you feel on cloud nine.
Well done Beechnut?. Wow Shirleyw that's brilliant ?. Strange weather in South. Cooler which lovely and sunny earlier, even I did a bit of gardening! Unpredictable rest of week apart from Thursday. Hopefully some nice weather as eldest daughter down with grandsons. Very pleased weather stayed nice today as youngest daughter was a bridesmaid for her best friend. They had so much uncertainty at least the weather was lovely?
Thats a good amount beechnut, and cocoa pops well done.
...and yes, a relief your son found another job so soon cocoa, a load off your mind.
I lost 5lbs this week im pleased to say...havent had a decent weight loss for a long long time...i'm weighing and writing everything down and calorie counting....NHS better health app.
