On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

However the 2 Gransnetters who have stayed the course are Fourormore and Shirleyw who have helped to keep me on the straight and narrow, most of the time ?, and kept up our spirits. Plus a few others who make an occasional entrance and departure and that is fine too - All Welcome.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.
Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.
Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my mantra. I am sure both Four and Shirley will tell you their strategies.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

So Onward and Downward ? in 2020 and beyond folks. Come and join us.

Weigh in for me today and I've no loss to report but good news is I've no gain to report either.
I think I need to try and be more active but not recovered yet from Coughing Virus to make much effort in that way.

You are very welcome Nannyloves.

Your love of food and cooking I can see as an advantage to your weight loss as you will be prepared to seek out low calorie recipes and cook them for yourself.

As I have said many times, apologies if you have read it before, that I started by following the NHS calorie counting diet then when I had shifted some pounds I moved onto portion control when my stomach seemed to have shrunk a bit. So now I eat anything I want but in much smaller portions. As you enjoy your food perhaps aiming for smaller portions could be the answer, after calorie counting.

You may of course have other plans and the beauty of this thread is we all follow our own path.

Best of luck.

Actually put a bit on this past week. Will put myself back on track.

Step count was maintained over 7500 per day so that is good. I'm not really bothering to watch calories on the weekend but not going totally overboard either. My little bit of gain could be bloating, etc, so I'm not too disheartened.

I'm amazed at some of the accounts here! Good work ladies. I find it a bit of a struggle with a 8 lb goal, so am very impressed with long term plans of others.

What a lovely incentive Nannylovesshopping. The support here really helps with motivation.
I lost 1.3 lbs this week and weighed in at 139.7 lbs today, just a tad under 10st. That's a loss of 7lbs over 4 weeks. Yay!
No improvement in back pain yet (osteoarthritis) so will battle on in hope. I'd also love to reduce the muffin top!
Meantime, I bought a season ticket for the swimming pool and will go more often and I've booked a few acupuncture sessions. Good luck everone.

Nannylovesshopping Mon 10-Feb-20 17:36:27

Good afternoon ladies, please may I join your club?
I would like to lose 28lbs, crikey putting it in print what am I doing? I am a foodie, shopping for it, cooking it and I don’t even mind washing up! I adore cooking for my family, my gd says I make the best roast potatoes ever, but enough is enough, of eating them that is, I eat very healthily, meals all made from scratch, loads of salad, fruit and veg, but that is the key word, loads!! Forgot to mention I love bread and cheese.
My family are planning a road trip to Italy in the summer, very happy to be invited along, but the trips they are planning are leaving me breathless just thinking about them, I so want to keep up with them, losing this weight will mean I will be able to.
I am determined, but could do with some encouragement along the way, ah, did I mention I am also greedy?

NfkDumpling Mon 10-Feb-20 17:22:38

But if you hadn’t lost that weight Woodmouse you wouldn’t have had any leeway when your will power failed!

Start again tomorrow.

My DH does the cooking and decided to cook toad in the hole yesterday so I put a pound on. Sausages again tonight as I only ate one yesterday AND I had a buffet lunch today. Will have to go for a long walk tomorrow to stay out of the kitchen!

Marelli Mon 10-Feb-20 17:16:05

I'm definitely noticing a bit of a difference in my clothes. ?
I seem to have struggled with my weight since my last child - he's nearly 49! Have joined numerous slimming clubs (waste of money - for me, anyway). Also did Rosemary Conley Hip and Thigh Diet where I did lose a lot but then it all crept back on because it was difficult to sustain once target weight was reached.
This time I'm just quietly getting on with it and feeling determined to make it work.
It's good being a part of this group, where we're all in it together!

Whiff Mon 10-Feb-20 16:34:58

Marelli think of it this way you have lost almost a stone. Well done. Losing weight is very hard. And keeping it off harder.

Woodmouse49 tomorrow is a new day and a new start. I started this journey in April 2017 and am still to get to my goal of 11st. After losing over 7st I know how much better I feel. My confidence and walking having improved greatly. There have been times when I wanted to give up but looking at old pics of myself I don't want to be that woman again. Going from a size 32 to 16 for me is worth it. And when my children tell me all the time how proud they are of me it's worth it. I've been a widow for 16 yrs now wish I did this when my husband was alive. But he loved and couldn't keep his hands off me no matter how big I was. It didn't seem important then. By the way I'm 61 now. Hope this gives you hope.

Dec46 Mon 10-Feb-20 16:34:44

Marelli 11lbs is a lot .I'm sure you must be feeling your clothes being looser on you.
Woodmouse just keep trying and don't give up.
Weigh in for me tomorrow!

NanKate Mon 10-Feb-20 14:59:07

Woodmouse please don’t give up. We all have periods when our willpower leaves us. The positive thing about this thread is that there are no recriminations just support.

Get yourself sorted with whatever method usually works for you and start again.

The long term health benefits are so important as we get older.

We will be here for you, so as our motto says Onward and Downward ? best of luck.

WOODMOUSE49 Mon 10-Feb-20 09:58:45

Been missing my Monday report in.

Willpower is zero - below that even.

Weighed in yesterday and have put back what I had lost and feel rubbish.

Well done to those who are loosing.

Beechnut Mon 10-Feb-20 09:13:19

I forgot to say no gain either....which was lucky.

Marelli Mon 10-Feb-20 07:22:13

I started counting calories (1500 per day) at the end of November and according to my scales this morning (I weigh daily) have lost a total of 11 pounds. Not a huge amount, but it's very slowly coming off. ?
I have a little book, where I keep a tally of my calorie intake and mark down weight losses only. If I wrote down weight gains, I would soon get disheartened and give up.

Beechnut Mon 10-Feb-20 06:34:18

No loss this week.
I can’t blame the Portuguese tarts and biscuits. It was me that bought them, brought them home and scoffed the lot.

Shirleyw Sun 09-Feb-20 17:34:22

Shall let you into a secret, me and DH have been ripping out fitted wardrobes, paper stripping etc in our bedroom so we have been doing plenty of aerobic & toning exercise.....but........I fancied something sweet and thought, wonder about a mug cake ...googled recipe and bbc good food came up with a recipe.....so , I made and gobbled up a mug cake.....wasn't that special either.....oh why oh why ?

MiniMoon Sun 09-Feb-20 10:52:21

Could not believe it. On the scales this morning and I've lost 2 pounds! 10 st 5 lbs last week, now 10st 3lbs. Yipee, I'm going in the right direction.??

Beechnut Sun 09-Feb-20 10:46:13

I would think of it like this fourmore all that raising of hand from table to mouth was a lot of exercise ??

fourormore Sun 09-Feb-20 10:40:25

It's official folks that there is no logic in the world of weight loss!!! hmm
After weighing last Sunday we went to a 90th birthday cream tea that afternoon. On Monday to celebrate the same 90th birthday we went out to lunch followed by birthday cake during the afternoon. Occasional bread and biscuits during the week with lunch out on Thursday and an Annual Dinner (3 courses and trimmings) on Friday evening.
Weigh in this morning and I have lost 0.4lb - how???
So sorry folks confused

Whiff Sun 09-Feb-20 09:24:34

Morning all hope you are coping well with this storm. My weight has stayed the same. Also my measurements. I measure myself every 2 months. Happy to be the same but really want to start loosing again. See what next week brings. Put one of my old fat pictures into the cupboard where the bread is as I love marmalade sandwiches. Stop me from indulging so far. Don't want to ever go back to the old me. Hope everyone else is having some success with the battle of the bulge. Take care all.

Yennifer Fri 07-Feb-20 21:23:40

Aww ladies, I've had a few bad days and gone way over the weekly allowance. As our bodies happily store everything we eat, I don't think being good till Wednesday can help me now x

NanKate Fri 07-Feb-20 07:30:04

I’ll forgive you Shirley. I’ve let go of the reins a bit so I need to get back to monitoring myself as it is so easy to go back to my old ways.

Shirleyw Fri 07-Feb-20 05:53:08

I most of given you that pound nankate... 1 lb off for me

NfkDumpling Thu 06-Feb-20 13:52:08

Another pound off this morning. That’s three pounds in three days. I can definitely put down that horrible weight gain to long haul flying!

NanKate Thu 06-Feb-20 13:41:04

One pound up for me, drat it. Let’s keep going fellow slimmers.

Yennifer Thu 06-Feb-20 13:35:23

Pesky set points! Always get to near 10 stone and stick then give up... Not this time!
