Anyone done these diets in concert?

I see sites that speak of the efficacy of doing so, but would love to hear it from someone that has first hand experience if at all possible.

I have the fast 800 and fast 800 easy recipe book solely for low cal recipes. I haven’t done the diet though, have been tempted not sure if I could manage 800 a day.....(certainly never be able to do 500 as his previous books ).

Ridiculous I lost over 3 stone with Slimming World about six years ago, I’ve kept it off with low fat/low carb, loosely SW.

Ridiculous I think everyone has to find what diet most suits them. DS did the 800 cal a day diet - and it worked very well for him. I couldn't do it, but did well with the original 5:2.

DD is currently happily losing weight on the Low-carb diet, but cannot get on with any low cal diet, neither 800 cal a day nor the 5:2. I tried the Atkins Diet, a low carb diet, and it made me ill.

Slimming World seems to have worked for you in the past, why not go back there?

Bluebellwould You have to be a qualified medical doctor to become a psychiatrist. Psychologists do not need a medical training but psychiatrists do.

I have been very successful with the 5:2 diet. I lost 2 stone on 4 months using it when it was first introduced and I have not put on any weight since. His wife is a GP

Sounds to me you are jealous because he is rich. Why should he not make a good living from what he does and if people weren't interested in what he does and what he says, he wouldn't be doing it, but would be wroking as a medical consultant psychiatrist, also a well paid job.

Hello, a newbie here. I joined specifically to find support whilst doing the 800 Michael Mosely diet. I have always been extremely thin, even after 3 children. In the last 10 years, with menopause and just getting older ( never been a keep fit sort of person) I have put on 5 stone. I have lost 2 through Slimming World. Now, I want to stop smoking, but know that the weight will pile on as it has done in the past, despite me being under a doctor & dietician whilst doing it ( no cheating). So I decided to see if I can do this this 800 thing. I am now on day 8 and have only lost 2 pounds, and feel SOOOOO deprived and dizzy. Should I push through? When does it get better? has anyone any experience of following this? I have followed the book and recipes to the letter and not on any medication. Exercise doesn't come into it at the moment as I feel quite weak. Many thanks

Weight loss on these extremely low calorie diets is bound to happen but what happens when you revert back to eating normally?

These extreme diets are doomed to failure as they do nothing to address the problem of a person’s normal diet.

I don’t think it matters what his qualifications are, Michael Mosley advises people to do as he did, ie practise the best eating plan to conquer Type 2 Diabetes which he was diagnosed with himself and reversed through low carb eating. DH and I have found his advice excellent and it was the basis of DH’s efforts to reverse his Type 2 Diabetes in three months. I follow the 16/8 method most of the time. We are early risers but I don’t miss breakfast any more and find it easy to wait until 11am for my first meal as long as I can have my morning coffee. His wife is/was a GP and advises on low carb meals, it doesn’t matter that she isn’t a qualified chef.

Maybe MM he is the right man to advise about diet. If your head isn’t in the right place you won’t succeed.
He has access to so many very knowledgeable people.
I’ve been watching his lock down programme, and yes, he has a nice house. Does that devalue his message?

He certainly comes across like a man with a mission.

MM appears to have a very large expensive looking house in the latest programme. He has done alright for himself.

Re Michael Moseley,I thought all psychiatrists had to qualify as medical Drs before specialising?

Doodledog Thu 13-Aug-20 16:09:04

Thank you shysal. I'll have a look around on there smile

shysal Thu 13-Aug-20 15:51:24

Doodledog, this site will give you plenty of information and recipes for low carb eating.

Michael Mosley thoroughly annoys me. He’s a psychiatrist not a medical doctor. His ever widening reinvention of dieting has proved to be a money making machine for him so unfortunately he won’t stop reinventing the wheel just yet.

GagaJo

A spiraliser is good, for making pasta alternative vegetables. I used to have one and used it a lot.

Oh, good idea, thanks.

I have one somewhere. I got it when they were all the rage, and never really used it. I tried to offload it onto my children, but they were having none of it, so it will be in the back of the pantry grin. I'll dig it out and have another go.

I also need to lose lockdown weight - a couple of stone has crept on, and I really don't like it. Part of the problem is lack of exercise (I am staying indoors). I don't think I am eating more than usual, or eating less healthily, so it's difficult to know where to start.

Those who cut carbs - what do you eat? My husband is vegetarian, so whilst I am happy to eat meat, a lot of our cooking is veggie, and we do eat a fair bit of bread, rice, potatoes and pasta. I am ok with a 16/8 regime, but need some ideas for what to eat, particularly when it comes to carb-free options.

Gwiz5 Thu 13-Aug-20 10:14:48

I fast alternate days , the longest continual fast I have done was 110 hours on water & black coffee. I have lost and kept off 18lbs so far, good reduction in body fat and inch loss.
I find it easy to fast, my gut appreciates the rest as I have lots of dietary issues so overall it works for me.
16/8 usually works well for most beginners as you sleep for more of the fast then you would on a 24/48 /36 hour fast.
Good luck with it. Remember research and talk to your gp if you have any medical issues that might make it problematic.

humptydumpty Mon 10-Aug-20 13:44:07

There's a program on with Michael Mosley which suggests you can lose a stone in 21 days - why not try that, he's a doctor and his wife is a nutritionist so I'm sure that will be healthy.

GagaJo Mon 10-Aug-20 13:34:03

I've tried both. The low carb one works, sort of, but post menopause, I can lose a stone, but no more, no matter what I cut out / cut down or how much I exercise.

Intermittent fasting doesn't work for me. But doing them together might be a deal breaker! I'm going to give it a go. I must try to shift the lockdown weight.

henetha Mon 10-Aug-20 10:37:27

The 5.2 diet is the one that works best for me. I've just started one again as I put on weight during the lockdown.

Luckyoldbeethoven Mon 10-Aug-20 09:04:47

Mostly avoiding carbs and living with a 16:8 pattern of eating works for me. Also keeping an eye on my waistline and the tightness of clothing! It's easy to cut back and lose a couple of pounds, much harder once you've gained half a stone or more!

Like 'mumofmadboys' I also think some serious, high intensity exercise is very important for cardiovascular health never mind weight. I was a gym goer, now I cycle two or three days a week, the hills around here are horrendous but I'm getting up them more easily now. grin

Maggiemaybe Mon 10-Aug-20 08:47:38

The 16:8 didn’t suit me at all. I tried it for a couple of weeks as a change from the 5:2 and found the weight was creeping back on. The other health benefits probably still applied though.

Another disadvantage for me was that if I fancied a drink I’d to have it before 8, which is the opposite of what I normally do. The pub quiz just wasn’t the same with a lime and soda!

Jane10 Sat 08-Aug-20 22:24:02

It does work well.

BBbevan Sat 08-Aug-20 20:51:49

Lizbeth I eat only in the 8 hrs period. So if my last meal is at 7 in the evening, then I will not eat again until 11 the next day 16 hrs fast. The beauty of it is ,,is that most of the time you are fasting you are asleep.
Drinks, tea, water and coffee are allowed in this period. This type of fasting ,as well as helping you to lose weight, also helps regulate your blood sugar. Which is the reason I do it.

Jane10 Sat 08-Aug-20 20:37:14

I've ballooned over the lockdown. I'm desperate to get back to my aquafit and yoga. 16:8 works well for me so I'll go back to it (one day!)
