Do you weigh yourself every day?

The other day I saw an article devoted to how weighing yourself everyday can help you with weight loss and so on- here it is . Do you really believe that? It also says that weighing every day helps to "increase awareness of your weight and weight-related behaviors" but what about it increasing your anxiety? Have any of you felt it or is it just me being nervous about weighing myself every day? As a result I gave up doing it that often and now I walk up to my scales once a week. Am I the only one being scared of the scales?

Just back in bed from my morning weigh in. I weigh every day and register weight weekly. It helps me keep a sharp eye on things and if I am Up a pound I take more care and if down try harder.
Have maintained a 25 lb loss for 9 years so it works for me.
Have more to lose so will carry on doing what I have been doing.

Scales right by the shower so why not. Daily works well for me. No hassle about a couple of lbs up on my preferred but any more and I have a strict word with myself. Sorted!

Because weight does vary depending on so many things, when I was a little heavier than I am now, I went to Weightwatchers who advise that weekly is the optimum - if you are overweight, the only way to control your size is eating and exercising both in moderation. The advice is to aim to lose a pound a week on average.

I've weighed myself every morning and recorded the weight in my bedside diary of the last 10 years!

It was suggested by a dietician that I should do this as I always used to yoyo diet and could not keep my weigh under control.

I have remained more or less the same weight since i've done this. I don't diet any more only actually 'cut back' if i've gained a little.

It has helped me to discover that bread is a big no no for me, I can gain two pounds overnight, so I rarely eat it now.

I also have a 'wobble weight' which is the point that I don't go beyond. If i'm getting close to it I cut back for a few days.

I don’t possess any scales because I don’t see the point in weighing myself ever.

Have you ever watched the TV program "My 600lb. life"?

Those people are like living jellies.

I don’t possess any weighing scales.

Cambia Thu 03-Sept-20 10:09:28

I weigh myself everyday. If I put a few pounds on, I cut back. Much easier to lose a couple of pounds than a couple of stones is my rationale!

My first job after college was on a health farm. I used to massage a very fat lady, I had to bend my knees to gather up all her tummy fat.
She told me she hadn’t noticed the weight go8ng on! It had had a long time to build up, a couple of pounds a year over 40 years is a lot of fat. One of the lessons I learnt early on, keep an eye on the scales.
As I said up thread I did slip a bit, our old scales were a bit hit and miss, but I also put on over a stone. I got it off and now it’s staying off.
I found that I could still fit into my clothes, they just felt a bit tighter and long shirts and bumpers are so forgiving.

It was me hapgran, I typed in the right word but it was changed and didn't notice it.

Don't weigh myself ever.if my clothes get tight i cut back on food until they're loose again.works for me.

Yes, every day immediately before I step into the shower. Not overly obsessed by what I see on the upward trend because fluctuation is the name of the game but I did lose a lot of weight eight years ago (by design) and I've no intention of going back there again.

Someone up thread said they had sleep anorexia, was it meant to say sleep apnoea I wonder? Only, I am struggling to imagine how sleep anorexia would work!

Why are all those who are not daily weighers - and at the end, it is entirely a matter of personal choice, so convinced that daily weighing will lead to anxiety and, some, that it could lead to eating problems, when daily weigher after daily weigher keeps saying they are unbothered by daily variation and understand it and just do it so that they can nip any weight gain in the bud before they gain too much.

I am sure the non-weighers would be very upset if weighers suggested that they do not weigh themselves because they are overweight and afraid to face the truth.

There is no right or wrong here, neither side is more viruous or less so, it is just interesting to hear how often people weigh themselves.

Yes, every morning to keep an eye on my weight - I seem to put weight on very easily. If there's an extra pound I eat a bit less that day and make sure I walk a bit more than usual or do extra gardening. This has certainly worked for me.

FlexibleFriend Wed 02-Sept-20 19:20:21

I weigh myself about once every six months and did today after reading this thread but my weight is always the same unless I'm actively trying to lose weight.

PamelaJ1 Wed 02-Sept-20 19:19:26

I didn’t used to. I believed that once a week or even hardly ever was often enough.
I now weigh daily. I know weight fluctuates from day to day and don’t obsess if I’m a lb or 2 heavier or lighter as long as I’m in my range.
It keeps me where I want to be.

Shirleyw Wed 02-Sept-20 19:14:56

I weigh every morning. Just to keep tabs. I'm Not obsessed with it though. and i take on board and rectify if its a plus....well try to lol.....when we go away and i dont go on the scales thats fine too.

TrendyNannie6 Wed 02-Sept-20 18:36:19

No I don’t actually, and it wouldn’t enter my head to do it. I know if I’m putting weight on by my clothes getting tighter,

GreenGran78 Wed 02-Sept-20 18:24:05

I do weigh myself every day. I have the kind of body that loses weight very slowly, even when I am eating sensibly. On the other hand, a couple of days of eating cake, or a few chocolates, and I can leap up by several pounds. Keeping a daily eye on the scales stops me from getting carried away.

CanadianGran Wed 02-Sept-20 18:08:24

I'm usually once a week. I can usually tell if a few extra pounds are on; the scale will confirm it!

Also, we don't have a handy spot in the bathroom for a scale, so it has to be hauled out from a closet when needed. If mine was more accessible, then I'm sure I would weigh more often since it was right there.

lovebeigecardigans1955 Wed 02-Sept-20 17:42:53

It's depressing enough to weigh myself once a week, let alone every day. If I get back to my ideal weight I'll weigh myself more often because it might help me to stay on track. If it hasn't already been mentioned I believe that Cliff Richard weighs himself every day to stay trim.

mumofmadboys Wed 02-Sept-20 17:42:47

I weigh every day too. I have recently lost 9 lbs which I am very pleased about. I am not anxious or obsessive about my weight. For me it works well. If my weight goes up I take extra care to eat a bit less that day. It takes away the possibility of a nasty surprise such as finding you have put on half a stone without noticing. Each person has to decide what suits them best. There is certainly no right or wrong way.

shysal Wed 02-Sept-20 17:42:11

I am another who suffers absolutely no anxiety from daily weighing. It is just part of my morning routine like brushing my teeth.

Happyme Wed 02-Sept-20 17:27:45

Am I being a bit thick?? If weight can vary a couple of pounds day to day how does weighing yourself on a weekly basis give a more accurate figure. What if the day you pick to weigh yourself is an 'up' day one week after having been a 'down' day the week previous shock. Have to agree with others who object to being described as anxious and obsessive. I am more than happy with my weight and figure and still receive occasional compliments, I am also fit and active and simply want to maintain the status quo. Each to their own, why put labels on others whose preferences are different to your own
