Shirleyw glad you had your first jab. It's so important when we are offered it everyone has it. Unfortunately there are some people who can't because of medical reasons. But of course there will be those who won't have it because they are idiots. But it's important that we have it to protect those that can't not won't.

Sarahmob brilliant weight lose. That's wonderful to get down to that weight. You should feel very proud of yourself. When you can have a proper celebration it will be all the more special. Glad you will get your money back. Good news about your parents getting their jabs.

SisterAct I have put on this week .75 lb. My own fault. Gave in to the 9 pm munchies but had porridge nothing really naughty. We both need to get our weight lose mojo in gear. Haven't excercised all week must get back to it today. I always feel better afterwards.

Tuesday started another UTI Dr gave me a 5 day course of antibiotics. Always knock me about the first few days. But at least they work. My daughter and grandson's where here on the afternoon and she fetched my tablets for me . Had her eldest here on Friday as she is trying to pack ready for their move. Had him on the afternoon . We made scones before playing. Had wonderful time. When my daughter came to pick him up saw she was upset. Whilst I fed the baby she told me problem came up with the house they are buying but that can be solved. Had a call from the nursery. A child who my grandson was with on Wednesday has tested positive for Covid. Which means the house move on Friday is off and we are all in isolation until 1st. She was feeling guilty that they could have exposed me to Covid. But don't her not to. I would not miss a second I spend with them. We are eachother's bubble. So we are now waiting to see if any of us have any symptoms. The nursery follow all the rules and don't know exactly how much contact my grandson had with the child.

Dorset I hear what you are saying about your neighbours and their cruises. Our planned holiday was a river cruise and when I transferred it last April, I naively thought everything would be back to normal for this year - how wrong I was! Hope you have a good day tomorrow and quickly settle into your new job.
SisterAct keep at it, I’d had a really slow move since Christmas but then a breakthrough this week. That’s the way dieting goes sometimes isn’t it.

Yes,its a strange place at times GN,the majority is good and often informative. I think the current situation is amplifying emotions. Maybe it's because we seem to be facing another year of cancelled events,which I dont think we were expecting. I remember in the summer my neighbours who go on several cruises a year saying they had transferred the deposits to this year,I think the first one was the end of February. At the time they were quite optimistic. It's a lot of money they have tied up.
I think the little signs of Spring and slightly longer days are helping to.
I start work tomorrow. It's a strange feeling digging out work clothes, make up,getting a work bag ready. I'm wary but it really was to good an opportunity. My new employers, the civil service have been lovely and I'm reassured as I can be the environment is covid safe. Tomorrow is the induction where there are things that have to be done in person. I have been assured that if I feel at all uncomfortable I can leave immediately (on full pay)and will be set up with a laptop so I can work from home. Tomorrow I will only need to be there 4 hours. The contrast between there and my former employer is unbelievable. I know I shouldnt be surprised but I cant quite put into words how it makes me feel. Yes there is an element of risk but the one thing that last shift in care taught me is how to avoid it.!
I love the tv and food threads on here,although sometimes the latter make me hungry?. There are also some really useful ones like a recent one on posting parcels from home. It's good to learn things but nice to share info that helps others a bit to.
As for my weight,I've stayed the same, which is fine for now. I do feel that returning to work has motivated me though!

Good morning everyone, I know what you mean about nasty comments - whilst lots of posts (the majority I think) are pleasant, there are some downright rude and nasty comments from others. I’m just pleased that on this thread everyone is so friendly and supportive.
I’m pleased to report that at this mornings weigh in I’d lost 2lb, to be honest I’d have been happy with a pound but a couple of really careful days have shifted the scales down. I haven’t weighed this since my daughters wedding 5 and a half years ago, and from here as the scales move down its uncharted territory as I can’t remember the last time the scales dipped below their current figure.
It’s been a funny week really, we had a special trip planned for April to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary and heard this week that it’s unlikely to go ahead, which is no surprise in the current climate. It looks as though we may have to wait for official cancellation to get our money back, (it’s paid for because we transferred our previous years holiday over last April) but the company aren’t quibbling a refund. I have to admit to feeling disappointment and wonder if there’s any way we’ll get to celebrate - I’m only half joking when I tell DH that it looks like being a picnic on Skegness beach! I also remind myself that as long as we’re both here and fit and well that’s what really matters.
It was good to be back at school this week, gave me a different set of faces to see, but amongst the staff the main topic of conversation was inevitably the virus - heaven knows what we’ll talk about when the virus goes away. I was also really pleased to hear that my mum and dad have received their vaccination dates this week and are due to be done on Tuesday, and I’ll soon be able to stop worrying about them catching the virus.

Morning girls good to see our small group are still going strong.

I’ve managed to cut back on my snacking since Xmas, but did have 2 glasses of wine last night, when I meant to have one as a treat. ?

Upped my exercise by increasing my daily walk just a small amount.

I don’t go on many threads, it’s here, style and beauty , tv/arts/film just to get any ideas on what to watch sometimes lol and the food thread sometimes.
I’ve asked the odd question, think I did one on neck cream ?, was only asking if anyone has used it ??, most were ok replies but the odd reply popped up, nothing about if they liked/used it .....I think it’s funny and never bother to reply...(by the way, I spent 30quid on the pot and my neck came up in pimples so I had to Chuck it, just. Use my regular moisturiser now ????)
Snow here but slushy wet snow which dosent settle, probably be an ice rink this morning,

Had my first jab Friday, ....I’m lucky as I’m a support worker we were all put in to have it if we wanted it....next dose is Easter Sunday lol....

I've never been sure whether things have changed on GN or whether I just view more forums. I remember when I joined about five years ago I describe it to my daughter as mumsnet without the nastiness! In many ways it still is. In the summer there were several threads about how the atmosphere had changed,they were usually shot down in flames! There are definitely a small clique of people that on occasion gang up on people or on occasions seem to take over a thread somewhat.

Whiff You asked if people are following restrictions where I live. Yes, the vast majority are.
I live in Canada where the advice/ restrictions varies from Province to Province according to each Provincial Health Officer. The death rate for the whole country is 18,000 to date. Although Canada has one of the lowest population densities in the world, sadly Quebec and Ontario have been hit with 9,000 and 5,400 deaths, wheras for example Alberta has had 1,430 deaths, British Columbia 1,050 deaths, the Yukon just one death and the Northwest Territories and Prince Edward Island have had none although they have confirmed cases.
We are warned there is worse to come. We are waiting for more vaccinations to arrive and hoping to be vaccinated by September.
I weighed in at 130.2 lbs today having managed to lay off the booze and peanut butter for a whole week!

I’ve taught everything from year 5 to reception in the past. My current job is working within reception. Normally I deliver speech therapy (can’t wear a mask for that so was quite concerned prior to Xmas Hols) and teach English as an additional language, so introducing new vocabulary to children who have little or no English. My current hours are going to be releasing our full time reception teachers for their planning time, so I’ll be teaching standard reception timetable.

If you’ve held steady this week, well done that’s better than an increase and any loss however small needs to recognised as a success. ?? With the weather and lockdown it’s not surprising that we are being tempted to eat and not exercise.
It’s been a lovely day here today and I’ve just got back from a three mile trudge around our village perimeter, hopefully I’ve walked off enough calories to compensate for the Christmas pudding I intend to have for supper later. Well the odd treat keeps us all on track!

SisterAct well done staying the same especially with a celebration meal and drink. My son has cut ties with all our side of the family . It happened beginning of May with support from here and a wonderful woman called smiless2012 on one of the estrangement threads have come to terms with it. Don't hate him or my daughter in law. Still love them . Don't want nor need hate in my life. But will never forgive them or trust him ever again. Hopefully one day my grandson's will find me will be a long wait as the oldest is 4 ,his brother 2 and the baby must be 6 months now. But I am a patient person. They will be welcomed with open arms. If my son decides he wants his mom he knows where I am but he has some explaining to do.

Hi everyone and thanks for making me feel so welcome. Oh the sun is shining for the first time in days and what a difference it makes. I stayed the same this week but with some fizz and a curry for 38th wedding anniversary and zoom drinks for younger son birthday. I’m amazed it stayed the same.

Whiff I do need to get my will power back on. My heart goes out to you regarding your son. Hopefully time will help. Does he contact any family members? I’m trying to stop my Godaughter cutting ties with her mum. A very long story and in her case I understand why but .....

Well done Sarahmob on your loss and a new grandchild on the way. I too would like to know what age you teach. I taught from Nursey to Year 2 for 18 years and did supply during the last lockdown for key workers and then Nursery. I’m not working at the moment but am helping sons with childcare.

Dorset I’m sure you are apprehensive but it sounds like you are totally prepared.

New carpet in bedroom being fitted Wednesday so emptying room as much as possible Tuesday. Bit of exercise there. Out for a walk now.

I am down 0.8lb which is better than nothing but I am a bit disappointed as I haven't touched any biscuits, chocs, not anything naughty all week but I'm not getting anywhere near the exercise I normally get. I do miss swimming and it will be a while yet.
I am so lucky in not having to worry about work but I send huge hugs to all you who do - sounds like you are on the ball though and alert to everything!

I have 5 but only see 2 as my son decided he no longer needs or wants his mother in his life. He wouldn't even tell me the name or date of birth of their 3rd son.

Had phone consultation with my cardiologist on Friday. Because I don't have shortness of breath or palpations and because of Covid they are putting off further testing to find out exactly what my heart defect is. And are discharging me back to the care of my GP but should anything chance they will see me. It's what I thought it they would do and am happy about it. I am 62 only found out last year about being born with a heart defect. Apart from my heart racing for a few seconds before going back to its normal beat and it doesn't happen every day don't have any problems with it.

Made 8lbs of lime and lemon marmalade yesterday. Lovely green colour and set well. Just need to label it . Got lemons to do next will do them another day. My daughter is getting me some Seville oranges as Sainsbury's hadn't got any for my delivery I had on Thursday.

I hope all goes well on return to school. The shield will no doubt help but I think so much depends on individual circumstances, age and underlying heath conditions, class room set up,local infections ?.
I have a week to go until my return to work,and it does look as though I will be spending at least the first day in the office. I will admit I'm very wary as to all intents and purposes I've more or less shielded since March even though I'm not officially shielded but high risk.
Infections in my area are very high but dropped a tiny bit.
I have been reassured by chats to employees etc,one of whom was my job coach(which was quite surreal!). There are fewer than 10 employees in a very large building, protocols are followed, theres a permenant cleaner there constantly wiping down surfaces! They all sound very lovely to!
I will have everything planned for five days from sets of clothes which will wear once,to lunches-a slimfast shake and take in my own bottled water! I have enough antibacterial gel/ wipes to sink a ship.!
I will travel by taxi windows down etc,takes about 5mins. Not without risk but better than bus!
I'm doing the best to boost my immune system including vitamin D and a daily actimel and portion of beans/ pulses daily(poor cats).
Hopefully I can avoid infection until I'm vaccinated.
I feel strangely ok about it all,maybe because I know it's as safe as can be. I've known diabetic teachers who have resigned,the protocols were not in place and the feeling of Russian roulette got to them eventually.
I'm not sure things will ever return to how they were before,hopefully the vaccinations will roll out as planned but we will have to remain vigilant.
I do think permenantly staying at home is strange though. More so when it's not a permenant thing such as retirement. I've 7 years to go until I officially retire and so it was always in my mind that I would have to return to work or rely on UC?. This post is ideal in every way.
Not quite sure what I'm going to do with hair, it's a short style that hasnt been cut since end of August! Not the way I would usually present myself on first day! I tried the rollers the other day but looked more Fred Flintstone than Farrah Fawcett ?.

Good morning everyone, I hope that this finds you all well and surviving the horrible weather that we’ve been having. I’ve just weighed in and am another 1lb down, but I have to confess that I’ve found it difficult this week. I’ve had cravings for sweet things that I’ve given into albeit in very small amounts and my exercise has been down as I haven’t walked on some days due to the weather, choosing instead to stay curled up on the sofa.

Better news this week is that my daughter found out that their expected baby number 2 is going to be another boy, She thought it was a girl so was a bit surprised but as long as we get a healthy baby nobody is really bothered.

I’ve been asked to return to school later this week and I admit I’m a bit apprehensive all over again but I’m sure that I’ll be ok. We have been given permission to wear face shields whilst teaching now, so I’ll see how I get on with that bit of extra protection. I don’t know about everyone else ( and I appreciate that some of you may have been shielding since last March) but I’m so fed up with these restrictions now. Even though I think they are the right thing to do and I wouldn’t change anything I’m just longing to return to normal, whatever that’s going to look like.

Thankyou Sarahmob, I certainly think teachers should be having the jab,particularly those who vulnerable for any reason. I'm on a diabetes forum and the amount of fear and anxiety experienced by teachers and teaching assistants is terrible,at least three have resigned as it's not worth the risk. I know one who resigned in late November as just couldnt cope with constant threat to health. There are so many frontline workers who are incredibly at risk. Let's hope this vaccination program really goes to plan?. Take care everyone.?

SisterAct that was an awful thing to say. Shows what a horrible woman she is. You should never judge a book by it's cover. Her cover may be lovely but inside must be the most boring read ever. Hate people like that.
I always treat people the way I want to be treated. Ok if they are horrible to me I can be horrible back. But on the occasions that has happened I just say I feel sorry for you being a horrible person and walk away. They have no come back.

When I was 19st+ someone did call me a very rude name and said gross things about my weight. My come back was I can lose weight but you will always be an ugly person inside and out. He was the one to walk away.

Saying that took me years to be able to do that. I lacked confidence especially after my husband died. Only really been the last 5 years I have gained it. I was good at pretending to be confident when I was a jelly inside.

You are with friends here. It's a safe place.
