One of my friends at craft group made me this for my birthday.
Madgran staying the same weigh is an achievement. It means when you get to target you will be able to maintain it.
Cornernan enjoy your time away. Hopefully you have the sunshine.
Cocopops brilliant. Your achievement gives me a boost that I can do it .
Hope everyone is keeping well .

I’m a Pear ? the sequel part 3 - Wow!
(1001 Posts)3 years 7 months ago on 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.
We now have a small band of ‘regulars’ called Pears who have joined our ranks and they have brought new ideas and support. Many thanks girls what would I do without you all. I am so grateful you have stayed so loyal and been such good friends to us all.
Do join us the rules are simple.
Choose your own style of diet plan.
Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.
Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.
So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my way of life.
You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.
Our new mantra is - Eat Less for Life.
So Onward and Downward Pears ??
Well done CocoPops. Really pleased for you ?
Love your colourful flowerbed Whiff ????
A belated "Happy Birthday" Whiff. I hope you enjoyed your special day.
I eventually got to my target for the second time. This time I am determined to stick to it. I have finally learnt to give up cake, biscuits and desserts for good, except for fresh fruit. My treat is the occasional gin and tonic or a glass of wine.
Re beetroot... I make a salad with raw shredded red cabbage, shredded beetroot and halved red grapes tossed with a nice dressing.
Keep up the good work Pears.
Lost a quarter of a lb.
Your garden is lovely whiff.
A long Chinese meal with the family yesterday. I didn’t worry, some things just have to happen.
. We’re away again soon, will report back when we return home.
Good luck everyone and don’t forget to enjoy life.
Hi All, stayed the same for tge last 3 weeks now...need a concerted effort I think!
Your garden looks lovely whiff .
Hope you had a lovely birthday Whiff
your grass looks great.
I have lost a pound, I’m slightly disappointed as I have done quite a lot of walking this week and have cut right back on the evening snacks which are my big down fall. I’m making red onion crustless quiche with quark today which will do me nicely for lunches with salad over the next couple of days. I haven’t seen Michael Moseley's article about beetroot. Ive been watching Dr Eric Weston (Adapt for Life) on You Tube, all about following a Keto style diet. Its very interesting & some good advice but I couldn’t stick to it rigidly for long. I’m going to try restricting my carbs combined with counting calories and see how that goes. Good luck this week to everyone & enjoy the bank holiday.
Well done fellow strugglers - we will all get there. The scales are showing up 0.2lb today which is basically staying the same. I can live with that.
Glad all went well with your birthday Whiff
Stay safe everyone and don't give up - we are getting there!
I hope that you had a lovely birthday Whiff and that you enjoyed the celebrations with your family.
I’m pleased to report that I’m continuing to maintain at just below my target - getting any more off doesn’t seem to be happening but I’m happy with the maintenance - this time around I really do seem to have developed some ‘good habits’. I find myself turning to the fruit bowl if I fancy something sweet in the evening and chocolate/puddings are now an occasional treat, not an everyday occurrence. Long May it continue!
Hope all of my fellow pears have a good week ?
Thank you all for your birthday wishes. Pound on this week but I expected it as eat chocolate and box of Turkish delight.
Had my youngest grandson this morning while his brother was at his swimming lesson. .Then had some presents before they had to leave for the older ones gymnastics club.
My son in law is still testing positive for Covid. But my daughter, grandson's and me have tested negative everyday. So we are still going out for dinner but an early one with my grandson's. So she will fetch me at 4.
Had my new artificial grass put down yesterday. The old one was 10 years old and the previous owner had it just put on the soil. Have been fighting a losing battle against weeds . At least this time it was dug out and hard core and granular compacted down . Because I fall they have put a waterproof foam with holes in under the grass. It's like walking on carpet and the grass is soft to touch. The old one was spikey . Have put 2 pictures one of my back garden. And the phlox in my front. Hope you like them. My French beans are starting to come through in my greenhouse and have a strawberry flower on my plant in a raised plastic planter with lid.
Happy birthday from me to

!!!
Happy birthday whiff hope you have a fabulous day
Happy Birthday Whiff???. I hope you have the lovely day you deserve?. Hopefully the sun is shining by you,its finally reappeared here after a few very chilly days!!
A VERY HAPPY 64th BIRTHDAY WHIFF ??
Thank you Whiff for all the encouragement you give to us Pears and Apples. You give good sound advice.
Have a lovely meal out with your daughter.
You are a very valued Member of our small group of Losers.
Thats handy to know whiff.....I like Mosely but yes, he is making a lot of dosh out of it but i do like listening to him ...dont think of him as God though lol....def everything in moderation and portion control , drink water and exercise....if only!!!
Its chilly here, heating back on ...have a good bank holiday pears....
I agree about Michael Moseley. He did a programme about sleep a while back and said pre biotin insulin helped him to sleep so I bought some. Then, more recently he made a new programme about sleep where he mentioned a whole load of new ideas…no mention of the pre biotic. I must admit his programmes do kick start me to live more healthily when I watch them and I’ve taken capsules that are supposed to keep your eyes healthy for years ever since he recommended them in a programme. The only diet that worked amazingly well for me was the doctors quick weight loss programme which recommended eating just protein. The weight fell off me but I didn’t drink the recommended amount of water and I’m lucky that it didn’t make me ill. And I’m sure my metabolism has never recovered from it and that was over 50 years ago.
Whiff thanks for the advice about beetroot. I agree that Michael M is equally a business man as well as a dietician.
It all comes down to ‘Eating Less for Life’ and I need to follow my own advice. Also I think as we age we need to reduce our calorie intake. I can remember scoffing down prawn cocktail, steak and chips followed by Black Forest gateau and thinking nothing of it. Those were the days. ?
A very happy birthday for tomorrow whiff. Sounds an excellent day ahead. Enjoy every moment. I’ll be 74 in 9 days. There will be an early celebration with the family on Sunday, a week early to fit with everyone’s lives. We’ll enjoy a buffet style (Chinese) meal together. I’ll pick carefully but not worry, treats are definitely allowed.
. Taureans are stubborn folk who get there in the end.
The 2 extra lbs added last week during a hotel stay (cooked breakfast and 3 course evening meal x 4) have left me. I’m more than. happy with that, onwards and gently downwards as life allows.
Thank you all for sharing, good to have your support and encouragement to keep on keeping on.
.
Can I just warn anyone if you have problems with potassium levels as I do beetroot is a big no no. I love roasted beetroot but over 10 years had to go on a low potassium diet. It's surprising the foods that are high in potassium. Here's just a few grapefruit, pineapple, mango , aubergine, spinach ,bananas, sweets expect boiled, chocolate ,nuts ,tomatoes ,mushrooms, roast, baked and chipped potatoes, crisps and any form of potato based snack, no more than half a pint of milk / yogurt a day there are more. The only thing I can't give up are tomatoes or mushrooms but limit myself to 6 tomatoes and 300g mushroom every 6 weeks.
I know some think Michael Moseley is god but he is out to make money. And weight issues is a sure way to make money. And I have never heard him say anything different to what the Pears have said .
I suppose I am jaded with all so called weight lose experts. Especially if they are making money out of if and are plastered over the media.
The only weight lose experts I would listen to are normal people like the Pears . Who are a wonderful supportive sensible fruit barrow . Who have been there and got the tee shirt.
Right off my soap box.
We all have ups and downs as far as weight is concerned but we don't give up and that is the hardest thing to do. It's easy to give up but to keep going week after week takes strong women and that's what the Pears are .
Ill health has knock on effect especially if it effects your ability to move about. But exercise doesn't have to be full pelt. Gentle exercises done slower can just be as beneficial. I can't have the weights on my ankles in my exercise class. So I make sure when I am doing the leg lifts I do them slowly and controlled that way you are working your muscles more . It's easy to do them fast try it slowly and you will notice a difference. Also you don't need a gym . There are lots of sit fit and gentle exercise classes that met in church halls all over the country. I never thought I would love exercises but I do. My husband would laugh his socks off if he was here. I look forward to going every week made friends and we laugh. And then the reward of a cuppa, biscuit and chat.
Tomorrow is my 64th birthday so for exercise class and my craft group made my brownies to take to each. They all went but I didn't eat any. Weighting in tomorrow instead of Sunday. My daughter is taking me out to dinner tomorrow night just the 2 of us. So I intend to enjoy myself.
Will be seeing her and family during the day so nannie will be running around and earn her naughty treats.
Hopefully it will be warmer today as it was freezing here yesterday back into thick jumper and coat.
Have a good day ?
I add organic freeze dried beetroot to smoothies. Does that count?? My weight has shot up over the past few months. I’m so annoyed with myself. A combination of my dodgy knee making walking difficult, Christmas, and just a general lethargy. I’ve cut out bread ( my nemesis) again which I hope will help. Still haven’t returned to any post pandemic normality eg haven’t renewed my gym membership. It makes me think of a friend of mine who is in her nineties but was far fitter than me and could walk for miles. She said over the past two years her body has just seized up.. and that’s where I am, too. The arthritis has really kicked in. Think I’ve aged ten years in the past two. Still eating reasonably healthily, having learned to cook during the pandemic, but eating too much and exercising too little. Still seem to be in winter hibernation mode! Need to turn this round over the next month….
I’m glad you stayed the same Shirley. I did too but still need to lose about 5lbs. I must try harder ?
Yes I too heard the beetroot 15 mins. Michael M said that there were a number of benefits from eating this veg including helping with cognitive improvements. He suggested drinking the juice, eating it raw or roasted, as boiled lost some of its benefits.
For me I don’t think I could eat 3 or 4 a day. Also the taste is rather earthy and it turns your wee pink !!
Summing up beetroot is just not my thing.
It was an interesting 15 mins and I will listen to the next piece of advice.
I listened to the beetroot one last week on sounds…I love beetroot hence I have bought organic raw beetroot and a pack of ready steamed ….every thing will turn pink for a week??
I’m enjoying his 15 minutes of ‘just one thing’
Stayed the same this past week which I’m happy with.
You’ve got the right attitude SachaMac. I’m sure you will get rid of those 4lbs.
I will listen to Michael Moseley today on BBC Radio 4 at 9.30 when he is talking about the benefits of beetroot. Not my favourite veg. The programme I think is called ‘Just one thing’. I will report back if the programme looks likely to give us tips on healthy eating.
