3 years 7 months ago on 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

We now have a small band of ‘regulars’ called Pears who have joined our ranks and they have brought new ideas and support. Many thanks girls what would I do without you all. I am so grateful you have stayed so loyal and been such good friends to us all.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.

Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my way of life.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

Our new mantra is - Eat Less for Life.

So Onward and Downward Pears ??

Hi all, stayed the same this week.

Glad you had a good birthday nankate, love fish and chips.
Pleased your feeling better in yourself whiff. I wish I could keep to 1200 calories daily, around 1500 for me on a good day.
sachamac…I can be a scoffer too, and never feel good after, god knows why we do it, i then get right fed up for scoffing!!

Starting Pilates again on Monday, I haven’t been to a group for a very long while, I need to get motivated, I tried at home but never stuck to it.

Been tempted to put heating on but shall wait till weekend when it’s October ?

Madgran77 Fri 30-Sept-22 17:32:56

Hi again, I have been off this thread for a while having fallen well off the wagon because of a lot of "stuff" to deal with!

Back again, even though still dealing and very chuffed as have lost 3 pounds in the last 2 weeks! Yay!

NanKate Fri 30-Sept-22 22:06:39

Welcome back Madgran and congrats on the weight loss. ?

Shirleyw Sat 01-Oct-22 04:32:40

Hi madgran, well done on the 3lbs off. The stuff life throws at us sometimes can be challenging for our weight loss.

SachaMac Sat 01-Oct-22 09:23:23

Great that you’re back Madgran and a brilliant start with 3lbs off smile

Madgran77 Sat 01-Oct-22 12:33:06

Thanks for the welcome! Onwards and downwards eh!

fourormore Sun 02-Oct-22 11:07:28

Up a pound but again I know why so no one to blame but myself! Can't seem to shift it nowadays whatever I do, but I will persevere!
Keep going and good luck everyone!!! flowersflowersflowers

CocoPops Sun 02-Oct-22 17:40:31

Weight stable but finding it hard. I am eating dinner later to try and stave off the temptation to nibble the naughties.
Like Whiff I can't keep high calorie favourites around like yummy peanut butter and hard cheese because I can't resist them! Between meals I sometimes have a few thin rice crackers with a dollop of cottage cheese on top. I don't miss desserts although I missed baking initially.
Keep on keeping on Dear * Pears*.

Madgran77 Mon 03-Oct-22 06:54:43

Not lost any more yet but taking it steady. I'm using Fitness Pal to help me calorie count a bit as I'm hopeless at working out calories...but mainly I'm just cutting portion sizes. And just having a soup for lunch to keep me going.

Hope everyone else doing OK

Whiff Tue 04-Oct-22 05:20:45

Started a bad pain flare on Saturday . Had my usual weight in on Sunday weight the same. Which is fine. But must put more effort in .

Madgran well done with the weight loss and welcome to the pears.

Shirley hope you enjoyed your Pilates class. Unfortunately had my last exercise class on Wednesday. Need to find a new class but will do the exercises at home. One of the instructors has left the council and started her own class. But I can't go it would take a hour and half on the bus. 2 buses and because of the class time would have to pay for the first bus and not going to do that. Will miss my exercise friends. 3 will go to the new class but they go by car it only takes 15-20 mins in the car.

Been having to put the heat on for 2 hours of a morning just to take the chill off. Hopefully I can manage until November before putting it on during the day.

What with all the strikes and price rises on things it's like the 70's again.

Four it's a blip. The colder weather I find makes it harder to lose weight. No idea why.

Even though the pain is up my daughter asked if I wanted to go for cake and drink on Saturday I am always up for an outing. My grandson's are funny they both know where all the coffee shops are. Went to the playground after my hot chocolate and slice of vegan chocolate cheesecake. I was in charge of the little one . They had a lovely time. The eldest showed me how the adult gym equipment works . They are more like instruments of torture. Funny in all the parks I have been to with them and on my own never seen an adult on them only children.

Went into the garden Sunday and cut a lot if things down ready for the winter . Just because the pains up I can't stop doing things otherwise it wins. I am my own worse enemy ?.

Have a good week everyone.

SachaMac Thu 06-Oct-22 13:42:48

Morning all, hope everyone is having a decent week.

I’m delighted to say I have finally managed to shift 2lb after facing the music at the scales. I’m still not back to where I was & I am cross with myself but I’m now feeling more focussed. It is not easy at this time of year though is it!?

I need to get into the garden too Whiff I want to empty all the tubs & containers which are now well past their best and get them into the garden bin ready for the last collection. It’s a nice day here so may get chance later.

Hope it’s going well with Fitness Pal Madgran77 it’s a really good app, Ive used it in the past and did quite well. I need to watch my sugar and carb intake if I want to get results but it’s not always easy, especially when you’re invited out for coffee & cake!!

Enjoy your week all

NanKate Thu 06-Oct-22 14:45:28

Hope you are feeling better Whiff.

My mind has been on other matters as DH had a brief TIA recently. We are going to the hospital next Wednesday for him to have scans etc. Lots of friends with experience of this kind of mini stroke have been helpful with advice. He’s back gardening ?

fourormore Sun 09-Oct-22 09:25:04

NanKate I hope your husband is ok - TIAs are scary but thankfully it was brief and they can be treated and monitored so I hope the the scans etc. will help his recovery and future monitoring. It sounds like he is positive if he's gardening etc. and the medics can't be overly concerned if the scan could wait. I pray he will be fine and please look after yourself too! flowersflowersflowers

I'm hacked off again this week as another gain of just over a pound is the result of my own stupidity! I had my week planned out nicely but over a period of five days everything that should have happened didn't, and everything we weren't expecting did! Even our flu jabs were cancelled due to no stock!!! We have both the covid booster and flu jabs this coming week on different days so fingers crossed they will happen!

Keep going fellow pears - it's easy to lose heart but we have each other for support through the ups and downs - this week for me is a 'must try harder' week!

NanKate Sun 09-Oct-22 15:47:10

Thanks for your kind words Four.

It’s good our small band of Losers are so supportive of each other. ?

CocoPops Sun 09-Oct-22 23:06:49

Sorry to hear about your husband NanKate.
Hope you are feeling better Whiff.
I am away for the weekend and there are no scales here so no weigh-in which is a relief!

Whiff Mon 10-Oct-22 08:25:45

NanKate hope Mr N's tests go well. My brother has a a couple of mini strokes so was put on extra medication. He has AF and 2 stents in his heart. Before the stents he couldn't climb stairs without stopping after he had them he said he felt like a new man. Not the old man he was turning into. This was 8 years ago. He's 63 now. Like Mr N he was to doing what he wanted the day after the mini stroke. Seems like men and woman born in 1950's are made of sterner stuff.

I have PAF funny enough if I hadn't moved to the north west I wouldn't have known that as my old GP diagnosed LVH after a ECG. Didn't send me to a cardiologist. But my new GP sent me as soon as my blood test showed heart failure. Saw had a cardiologist who did an echocardiogram as I had never had one then a bubble Echocardiogram as the echo showed a problem. Funny if I hadn't have moved to my bungalow I wouldn't have the brilliant health care I have and found out I was born with hole by my heart and seeing my new neurologist wouldn't know my diagnosis and that I was born with HPX. Now what's happened to me all my life makes sense.

The sad thing is my husband never lived so I could tell him as without out him I wouldn't be as I am. But like he always said he knew I was faulty goods when we started courting ?.

SachaMac hope you managed to get your pots sorted out. Brilliant losing the 2lb . I find once in the garden I lose track of time and its only when I get tired do I realise 2 hours have past.

Four it's another blip I know how annoying it can be . Sorry your flu jab got cancelled hopefully you can have it soon. I have BT this week next week flu jab , week after talking to my GP about the frequency of the pain flares this last one lasted longer than ever had, same week having Covid booster.

My weight has stayed the same again which is fine especially as I haven't been as active as normal. Really missed not going to my exercise class on Wednesday even though the pain was bad would still have gone. At least still have my craft group on Thursday. Mind you tripped in my hall when I got back but didn't go all the way down managed to grab the radiator but ended up with large bruise on my thigh. But the main thing is I didn't have to get up off the floor. My exercise class taught me a way to get up not the way we were taught but gave me an idea that works for me. Still need help if I fall outside. My pain levels are back to normal and my balance is back as well. Going out shopping today. At least the rain has stopped.

Have a good week everyone..

NanKate Mon 10-Oct-22 08:35:23

It’s great Whiff the help that is available for heart conditions.

Hope your bruise is fading away and not too painful. ?

Madgran77 Thu 13-Oct-22 10:28:16

Yay lost another pound. Slow steady progress!

Shirleyw Fri 14-Oct-22 03:48:53

Hi all, up a couple pounds ?

Well done on the loss madgran.

Sorry to hear about your husband nankate, hope he is feeling better.
Hope your feeling better too whiff.

Pilates went well, it was about 6 of us and well spaced apart, I like to have plenty of ‘arm’ room. I’ve been to other places and they cram in as many as they can and the teacher can’t possibly see if we are not doing it right.
I went to a full moon meditation class there Wednesday, really enjoyed that…

Have a good week , onwards and downwards….

NanKate Fri 14-Oct-22 22:13:06

Thanks all - good news about DH. Consultant does not think he had a TIA however will send him for a brain scan. If nothing is untoward it will be marked down as an ‘unexplained incident’ . He’s back driving ?

MayBee70 Fri 14-Oct-22 22:24:55

Please don’t laugh. I’ve lapsed into lethargy and have sent away for a sauna bag that you plug in and zip yourself into shock? The thing I’ve missed more than anything throughout the pandemic has been going to the gym and having a sauna afterwards and I’m still not happy about rejoining the gym. It’s probably a complete rip off. It reminds me of some strange blow up trousers that I sent away for when I was 18 that made me look like Michelin Man and did nothing for my cellulite! I know any weight loss is just water which you regain when you have a drink but I used to love having saunas so much and felt so good afterwards. Hopefully it will arrive in a few days time and I’ll report back on it. I just need something to kick start my diet again.

NanKate Sat 15-Oct-22 07:23:13

What fun Maybe. Do let us know how it all goes. You go for it ?

MayBee70 Sat 15-Oct-22 10:09:54

I feel a bit silly today because it was an impulse buy and rather expensive. But in the summer when it was incredibly hot it dawned on me that my car was like a sauna so I went and sat in it for ages then had a very cold bath and I felt so good afterwards. The thing I loved about the sauna at the gym was going straight into a freezing cold shower ( the only time I can ever do that) so I’m hoping I will do that with my sauna bag. It does look remarkably like an instrument of torture, though! I hope it doesn’t use too much electricity! I’d been looking at infra red saunas that you can install in your house but I had neither the room or the finances for one.

CocoPops Sat 15-Oct-22 17:14:53

Just a pound over target today.
Have a good week everyone.

fourormore Sun 16-Oct-22 09:24:43

MayBee70 I would love to know how you get on with your sauna suit. I remember buying similar 'pant' things way back in the 60s/70s - I can't remember how much success I had but obviously not enough to hold on to them! What with 'pull ons' and corsets we did try didn't we!!!
I am delighted to say I have lost the 2.2 that I put on over the last three weeks so, although a loss of 2.2 is great it isn't really progress if you know what I mean.
I recorded everything on my fitness pal and was really strong where the biscuits etc. so I'm pleased with the result.
I still don't have complete commitment with things going on but we are now 'boosted and flu-ed' so over the next few weeks I am hoping to get back to the more active life I had!
Good luck everyone else as we all struggle on flowersflowers
Glad Mr N is doing ok NanKate xxx
