3 years 7 months ago on 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

We now have a small band of ‘regulars’ called Pears who have joined our ranks and they have brought new ideas and support. Many thanks girls what would I do without you all. I am so grateful you have stayed so loyal and been such good friends to us all.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.

Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my way of life.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

Our new mantra is - Eat Less for Life.

So Onward and Downward Pears ??

Shirleyw Tue 29-Nov-22 05:35:40

Got on the scales yesterday and 2 and a half pounds up but I don’t despair, yesterday i started calorie counting again and reset the nhs weight loss app , …darent advertise my BMI 😫

Sorry to read about your friend’s husband whiff, hope all
goes ok.
That was good, the magazine publishing your cross stitch.

I have bought the main presents but not wrapped or done cards yet, your well ahead whiff .

Whiff Tue 29-Nov-22 16:10:34

Shirley at least you don't give up. Like all the Pears we plod on. I have to do things when I can as never know how I am going to be from day to day. So that's why I buy and wrap.

Pleased with the fact they published my cushions.

Anyone wanting to give biscuits up buy Siro sugar free. I brought some the only way to eat them is dung them in a hot drink . They are rock hard and taste like cardboard . I brought digestive and oat ones 60 and 77 cals per biscuit. Will stick to proper biscuits in future.

Whiff Tue 29-Nov-22 16:17:36

My claim to fame😂

So sorry to hear about the death of your friends husband Whiff I’m sure you will be a great help and support to her in the weeks and months ahead, it’s such an awful time, I’m sure she will be in a daze. Well done on the cross-stitch picture in the magazine, I’ll see if I can see it. I have a little cross stitch Christmas card I must finish this weekend, last weekend was very busy so didn’t get much done at home. I enjoyed Chester though and I got some nice bits and pieces off the markets.

I think we are all going to find it hard to lose weight between now and Christmas, just so many little temptations around already. I’ve not weighed this week, I’ve decided I’m going to enjoy my food over the festive season then start properly again in January. I’m not going to go crazy but I’m definitely not having a big tub of quality Street or Roses in the house! I’ll try & limit chocolate but think the cheeseboard will be my downfall. Enjoy your week everyone.

Whiff Wed 30-Nov-22 06:07:22

SachaMac glad you enjoyed the Chester market. Must make an effort next year to have a day in Chester it won't cost me anything. Men and woman once 60 in Merseyside get a free bus/ local train pass you can even use it on the ferry across the Mersey. I can go as far as Chester and Ormskirk for free. And places inbetween.

I am helping my friend the best way I can . Yesterday she was writing the eulogy for the funeral . I said her husband would be looking over her shoulder then wander into the kitchen looking for cheese. Which made her chuckle that was my intention. Her husband was cheese mad. She wants to read it herself but if she can't the vicar will. I remember my dad's funeral my daughter wrote about the picnics my parents took all the grandchildren on. And how it was never sandwiches but a whole chicken ,bread, butter, salads ,lumps of various cheeses and whole cakes. His little calor gas burner so mom and him could have a cup of tea and plenty of drinks for the children. She cried but did it. My brother wrote about mom how he got through it I don't know and held his tears back until the end . At my husband's the funeral director did it as we couldn't have.

I will be happy just to keep my weight stable as I will have a few treats at Christmas.

Baking today for my grandson's Christmas fair and will take some goodies to craft tomorrow. Also my roof is being repaired luckily it's at the edge of the roof .

Have a good today everyone.

I have a new regime which I’m going to stick to as long as possible. I’ve done it for a few days now. I keep a list which I tick off each day. I walk the dog. Do a power walk on my own for half an hour. Do my knee exercises. Use my sauna bag for an hour. Do a water only fast for as long as possible. Don’t eat after 6 and drink only water after @ 8pm. I’d got into a bad habit of snacking late at night and also grabbing a biscuit or two when I wake up in the night to go to the loo. This is something I never used to do. I’ve never ate breakfast anyway and I try to make sure I have something ready prepared for my lunch. I do sleep a lot at this time of year anyway and the fasting tends to be when I’m asleep. This is my fourth day and it’s going quite well.

Whiff Sun 04-Dec-22 13:00:08

Well my weight has finally changed after 9 weeks of staying the same put a pound on😱. But at least I know why. Made 142 biscuits for my grandson's Christmas fair had to sample one of each sort made 4 sorts. Then made 20 for my craft group. Didn't sample one until craft group but then had some other biscuits people brought in. Have bread in the freezer as I had a visitor and made sandwiches . Oh the siren call of bread 🤦 . Yesterday went to see Santa with my daughter and grandson's then naughty cake and hot chocolate not low cal stuff. Hence my weight again. Well back to being good this week.

The boys decorated my tree. They did a lovely job . But I never alter anything they put on . Hope you like it.

MayBee did you manage to kept up your new regime ?

Hope all the rest of you are keeping well and trying to resist the treats .

fourormore Sun 04-Dec-22 15:52:22

Lovely tree Whiff I bet the boys loved doing it. We've managed to fix dates for two out of three AC to meet for pressie-swop session but still waiting for reply from the third! Why do that generation want to leave everything like that until the last minute? Obviously we're not meeting until closer to the big day but at least we know when and can avoid those dates should anything else come in!

I'm pleased to report a loss of 1.6lb this week thanks to being really strict with myself. I must admit I would have given my right arm just for a sweetie or packet of crisps on Friday evening though! I don't know why but I really craved something! It was so close to my Sunday weigh-in and Sinday I managed to resist and I'm so pleased now that I did!

Good luck everyone as we struggle on together - tiny losses or even staying the same will help the Christmas damage limitation!!!

SachaMac Sun 04-Dec-22 17:24:45

Your tree looks great Whiff I’ve just done the finishing touches to mine. My son came over to get it all the decs out of the loft for me yesterday and his little girl helped put the baubles on. I seem to have been in a muddle all day today with decorations all over the place.
That’s a really good weight loss fourormore especially at this time of year. I went out for a Christmas afternoon tea with the craft club yesterday, lovely afternoon & delicious food but so calorific. I did bring quite a bit home though and cut some of the cakes and scones up small and gave them to the children. I’ll insert a pic of the tea and you’ll see what I mean

MayBee70 Sun 04-Dec-22 18:04:15

Whiff. I’ve done it for about a week now and it’s going really well. I’ve got another 6 days to go. I couldn’t do the walking today because the weather was so awful. I love the sauna bag. I really worried that I’d wasted a vast amount of money on an internet scam but I did my power walk a couple of days ago and me joints haven’t felt this good for a long time. I’ve realised how much snacking I do, especially in the evening. I’m a bit ocd so to have a strict rule about eating and drinking after a certain time suits me. I couldn’t cope with the 5:2 diet, though. I did lie in bed last night thinking about what I was going to eat at 12 o’clock though! And I make sure it’s something really nice ( I had a sausage sandwich!). I had my weight and b/p checked at the doctors a while back so in a week or so I’m going to check it again to see if there’s an improvement. I don’t want to wake up on my 71st birthday knowing that I’ve been on the never ending diet for 55 years and got nowhere. I just wish I knew more about health and nutrition back then. I’ve gone through every diet fad going and my weight has yo yo’d by 4 stones over and over again. The main problem has been being pear shaped because whatever I’ve done I’ve always had big hips and thighs.

Shinamae Sun 04-Dec-22 20:51:02

This thread was recommended to me after I posted something about not being able to lose weight so here I am,not a pear but a blinking’ great Coxes orange pippin!!.. I don’t measure myself because my measurements are ridiculous,my hips are the same as my middle 36 inches and my top is about 40 I think but most of that is back fat, you get the picture? Not a pretty one I admit 😁😂😂.. I have measured myself in the past but it never seems to change 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️ anyway I will try and read some of the thread doubt I will go back to the beginning though…

NanKate Sun 04-Dec-22 21:49:54

Welcome Shinamae . You will find lots of support and encouragement on this thread. We are a small band of losers who support each other through the ups and downs of Eating Less for Life.

Thanks as always to Whiff for promoting this thread. I think your Christmas tree is fab. 👍

NanKate Sun 04-Dec-22 21:51:31

SachaMac that photo of the afternoon tea looks totally delicious, mores the pity 😉

Shinamae Sun 04-Dec-22 22:34:52

I don’t eat breakfast,:all I have in the morning is an active male shot and an all milk coffee and I can go without food quite easily until the evening. I work three afternoons a week 2 pm till 8 pm otherwise I really think I could do the 16/8 fasting but I think with that I would not be able to have my shot in the morning or a coffee, I think if I do it right l should only have clear liquids like water Blah (don’t like water at all 😭).. but I would like to do some sort of fasting…. because as I say I find it quite easy to go without food for quite a long time…

MayBee70 Mon 05-Dec-22 01:09:09

You can have black tea, black coffee and herbal teas during the fasting period. But I like my tea milk and my coffee milky and sweet. A friend of mine has lost nearly two stones and has green tea with honey during fast times but I don’t think you’re supposed to have honey. I do think fasting periods must be difficult if you work. I used to have to get to work at 8 and I never ate till @12 but I needed my tea and coffee. I used to be on my feet fir hours at work. Now I’m retired I eat far more and, apart from a couple of walks a day, I’ve just become a couch potato. I used to go to the gym, which I loved, but stopped because of the pandemic.

CocoPops Mon 05-Dec-22 06:00:28

So good to read everyone's news. Whiff I am pleased you are getting help and support with PIP. May I do better when I write a list too. Shinamae Love your picture. I had 3 meals out the week of my birthday so the tum has expanded.
I am back on the wagon now but dare not brave the scales yet.
My daughter , GD and I went to a Christmas market yesterday and we had a laugh riding on a roundabout.
Congratulations "Losers". Have a great week ladies.

Shinamae Mon 05-Dec-22 09:44:47

I have been to the gym last year went for about eight months didn’t see any real improvement. I am now just trying to up my walking and I also work three afternoons in a care home 2 pm till 8 pm which is quite physically demanding. The thing I’m really struggling with is I want to do Pilates online, on YouTube, every day I think I’m going to do that and every day I find something else to do instead I really need to get motivated 😜

Shirleyw Mon 05-Dec-22 16:15:15

Lovely tree whiff,....that pound will come off ....you have been busy baking biscuits.
Your afternoon tea looks great sachamac.....very tempting.

Lost 2 and a quarter pounds this past 7 days.

Allsorts Tue 06-Dec-22 07:59:04

So goad your all more or less on track. I've accepted I will never reach the, target weight I sought. I'm 12 pounds overweight but I can live with it. Due to about of bad health my walking has gone to pot, but I intend to start again, twenty minutes AM and PM to start with.
Shinamae, doubt as if you need a gym, doing very well walking and working in a care home you must be here and there.
MayBe I tried the fasting but found it a miserable existence. My weakness is snacking of an evening. In the day I don't crave them.

SachaMac Tue 06-Dec-22 08:13:42

It’s the evenings with me too Allsorts I’m pretty good all day. Maybe I should start going to bed at 8pm that might stop me! We will all find it easier once Christmas is over. I’m sure. Welcome Shinamae and good luck to all this week.

Shinamae Tue 06-Dec-22 09:53:10

Yesterday in the care home it was one of our ladies 101st birthdays and of course we had a nice birthday cake, Marks & Spencer’s cupcakes and I am so proud of myself I did not touch one cake!!
Today however is my one day of the week, a day off and I will go with my friend to Marks & Spencer‘s and I will have a latte and a slice of carrot cake and I will do that every Tuesday but apart from that I have stayed off the cakes and I’ve got to say I’m very very proud of myself 🤗 and thank you all for your encouragement I am so glad I found this thread 😁

Shinamae Tue 06-Dec-22 09:54:56

I don’t understand why this thread never seems to trend, usually when you post something it will be in trending but this one never is, very strange..🤓

NanKate Tue 06-Dec-22 10:01:49

Well done Shinamae it’s good to have an occasional treat. I’m being taken out by a lovely 97 year old friend, who weighs about 6 and a half stone 😏, to a cream tea at a posh restaurant which I will thoroughly enjoy. I’m cutting back on everything else for my other meals today.

NanKate Tue 06-Dec-22 10:02:42

Not sure why we don’t feature more on the GN listing. Maybe with hide our light under a bushel.

Shinamae Tue 06-Dec-22 10:05:31

NanKate

Not sure why we don’t feature more on the GN listing. Maybe with hide our light under a bushel.

It’s not right though, I’m sure a lot of people would contribute to this thread if it did trend..🤨
