On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

We now have a small band of ‘regulars’ called Pears and Apples who have joined our ranks and they have brought new ideas and support. Many thanks girls what would I do without you all. I am so grateful you have stayed so loyal and been such good friends to us all.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.

Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my way of life.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

Our mantra is - Eat Less for Life.

NanKate you need to eat 3,500 cals per week than your body needs to lose 1lb. So everyone is different just depends on your life style . If you can exercise it helps your body burn cals. Walking is good but I read long time ago you burn more cals doing vigorous housework for 30 mins than a hours walking . If you think about it you move all parts of your body doing housework . When I vacuum I try and use a different hand so works both sides of my body. When you think about it you don't realise how much stretching you do just cleaning . Even ironing is exercise . Plus shopping involves moving all your body getting and carrying it . Even driving could be seen as exercise as you are moving your legs and arms all the time . Well thats my way of seeing the world 😁.

I still do my 7 exercises our instructor gave us beginning of the year plus my 300 rotations on static pedals before breakfast. Expect tomorrow I will be out at 7.15am to get too my new craft group and have lot of walking to do . Still do my 7 exercises though as they wake up my body ready for the day .

At sit fit it was circuit training which is always fun. And it gives us a chance to have a chat with whoever is your partner as we do it in pairs.

Put on 1.75 lbs this week . Be glad when I get to see my cardiologist. One of my sit fit friends has been put on water tablets and lost 1kg and her breathing has improved. She walked to class yesterday without stopping pre water tablet had to stop 3 times to catch her breath.

Got covid jab today and flu one Thursday. Then that's me covered for another year. At least if I do get covid it won't be as bad as without the jab . As I found out last year. My sister in law has had covid for the third time but said it was just like a bad cold this time but effected her MS but not as badly as last time she had it.

I helped take down our gel printing exhibition on Saturday at least it was quicker taking it down than putting it up. Lot of lovely comments in the book we left . I have stuck the 4 I framed to the side of my bookcase. It's over 30 years old and my daughter won't want my furniture after I die so thought why not.

NanKate you know you can do it like you always say it's not giving up that's important even if you had a bad day food wise.

Rambled on as usual. Have good week everyone. 😊

NanKate Fri 11-Oct-24 11:31:40

Thanks Whiff. Signing up for the NHS app again, it worked for me before

whiff you mentioned some time back how many calories are needed to lose 1lb a week. Can you remind me please ?

Whiff Wed 09-Oct-24 17:35:58

NanKate you can do it . And your knees will feel better. I know I am riddled with arthritis. But I am used to pain And the falls all my life haven't helped my joints . But would never take any tablets for it as they would interfere with my HPX and heart medications. And those are more important to me than putting up with pain.

NanKate Wed 09-Oct-24 06:36:14

Thank you Whiff and Shirley for keeping the flag flying. 👍👍

Seeing the doctor this morning about possible osteoarthritis in my knee. I have been reading up about it and losing weight could make all the difference. This is the incentive I need to lose three quarters of a stone to get back to my comfortable weight. Here goes folks.

Whiff Wed 09-Oct-24 05:51:38

Shirley brilliant . You will be down another dress size before long.

Doing the conga was fun but been that long since I had been to a wedding when people did it our instructor had to remind us how it went . 🤦. Thankfully it wasn't the elephant stomp or the rowing one where you sat on the floor. Mind you wouldn't have minded doing the birdy song dance or YMCA.

Shirleyw Wed 09-Oct-24 04:14:32

Haven’t done the conga in years whiff’ that did sound like fun.
Quarter pound is good.
Lost 2lbs….another pound and I shall be in the next number below. Not easy this weight loss is it?
I’ve been upping my exercise and walking loads more, that helps with the inch loss.

Still having plenty of rain 🙄. At the weekend meant to be sunny and cold.
Have a good week.

Whiff Tue 08-Oct-24 12:56:35

Well only lost quarter of pound this week on my official weigh in of a Sunday but because of the water retention weighting and recording my weight daily so when I see the cardiologist can show them how my weight is up and down. From Sunday by today's weight lost 2lbs. Trouble it will probably be up tomorrow depends how much I wee🤬. Just wish my GP gave me a water tablet.

We did the conga in my sit fit class up and down the church aisle yesterday forgot how much fun it was .

Have a good week pears and other fruits .

Whiff Wed 02-Oct-24 06:20:49

Shirley you will be down another dress size before long . You are an inspiration to keep going .😊

Shirleyw Mon 30-Sept-24 21:00:33

Glad you lost the 1lb you put on whiff. Yes, it’s definitely colder and getting dark earlier now. Like you, we put heating on for an hour in the morning to take chill off, it’s early to do this though isn’t it?
Oh I love a steamed syrup pudding. Sounds lovely your menu, hope you have a good time.

Lost 2lbs this week.
Having lunch out Friday so will choose wisely.

Have a good week.

Whiff Mon 30-Sept-24 06:20:43

Weight up and down like a yo yo again . As I only take Sundays weight I have put on a 1lb. Bet when I weigh myself this morning it's gone. 🤬.

It's definitely colder and darker so have sorted out my winter coats and washed and put away my spring / summer ones. But my meals will be the same as I eat the same way all year round.

Saturday having friends to lunch so that will be vegetarian and gluten free. As usual I make a choice they can have butternut and sweet potato soup with gluten free bread or a galette made with gluten free puff pastry topped with goats cheese, peppers, mushrooms and spring onions or both if they want . Pud is steamed golden syrup sponge made with gluten free flour and vanilla custard. Plus making a gluten free apple cake. I always do more food than necessary as I would hate anyone to go home hungry. And means they have left overs to take home. Plus 7 jars of my preserves .

Back in my vests and thick tights soon be time for my thicker trousers as well . Winter jumpers all ready . And have had the heating on for a hour each morning to take off the chill.

I made a marble Madeira cake for the library staff as a thank you for letting use have our exhibition. Made one couple of weeks ago for my craft group but forgot to marble it . So one of them renamed it cow cake as it was white and had brown splodges . But at least it tasted good.

Have a good week everyone.

NanKate Mon 23-Sept-24 08:46:10

Fabulous art work Whiff. 4lbs that’s brilliant Shirleyw.

Whiff Mon 23-Sept-24 06:38:36

Shirley I need your will power. 4lbs brilliant. Raining heavy here. My garden used to flood a bit but had it flatten and soak aways along the full width of my bungalow at the back and from the bungalow along the garage to the fence at the bottom of my garden and the paving cambered so the water runs into them. The front garden paved and cambered to go into the soak away on the drive.

Will get a bit damp going to sit fit this afternoon 🤣.

Thank you Shirley cross stitch is my passion but only took it up 8 years ago as I could never understand how little crosses made pictures. Only wish I had started 30 years ago. Funny enough my hands don't tremble doing it. I will miss my gel printing class as this week will be our last but have the exhibition to look forward to. It makes me laugh me in an art exhibition 🤣🤣😊. Will post a picture of the display .

Some put their feelings into their printing but me I just played with the paints and things . But I will miss the people I met and hearing their stories about their lives and living with various disabilities . It affirmed my view disability doesn't mean incapable. 😊

Shirleyw Mon 23-Sept-24 04:06:38

Lost 4lbs this week.

Your prints and cross stitch looks lovely whiff.

I think we need to have a boat the amount of rain we had , or are having I should say….and the floods 🙄

Whiff Sun 22-Sept-24 10:51:51

Finished my owl cross stitch. Used haunted moon fabric instead of white and altered the chart . The picture with the frame is in the magazine. Mine has the moon.

Whiff Sun 22-Sept-24 10:49:39

🤦forgot to add them

Whiff Sun 22-Sept-24 10:48:53

The high tea was delicious NanKate . But didn't realise silver teapots where that heavy but I managed .

Well lost 1lb this week must try and do better. I am fine until the evening. Good job I don't have biscuits etc in .

Sadly it's my last gel printing class as our teacher is going back to uni to do her masters .But we have our exhibition on 1st-12th October at the library near me. Will help to set it up and take it down. I will miss seeing the people each week. But it takes me nearly 2 hours to get there and back so unless it's something really interesting and lasts 2 hours wouldn't be going back this year. We have been asked if we can give some of our art work to a place but can't remember where so picked out 4 canvas's I did and put a mounting around them.

Frame my work for the exhibition yesterday sorted out 4 but probably only room for 3 . Don't know how many others are submitting. Our teacher wants us to give them names but I think it's pretentiousness. Thinking just calling them It's a print . Use your imagination. Or just give it a number . Anyway these are the 4 framed .

Fab looking High Tea Whiff.

Very impressed Shirley a whole dress size 👍💃

Shirleyw Tue 17-Sept-24 04:15:43

Glad you glad you had a great time whiff, I love an afternoon tea. Cheeky bloke with his music, that’s a new one ‘ no I am working’ 🙄. Good job there was a spare seat.

Yes, I am now down a dress size at long last.

Weather looks good for this week, make the most before winter sets in.

Whiff Mon 16-Sept-24 09:17:21

Shirley forgot to say thats brilliant . You must definitely be a dress size smaller now.

Whiff Mon 16-Sept-24 09:16:08

Had a great holiday in York last week did everything I wanted and more . The hop on hop off ticket was £13 but lasted 2 days and 20 stops . The drivers where funny and had fun spotting the black cats on buildings even found the white one.

I was able to book into my room early for £10 as it was ready. Which was great as I got there not long after 12.30 . Had my lunch with pud in a pub that was build in 1509. 😋. Had a wonder round and only brought things from M&S for dinner as I also had a pischato gelato from a shop in the Shambles . Lot of Harry Potter tat for tourists.

Went to York regiment museum, art museum and York museum. Went to cocoa works for tour which was done from outside looking in the windows due to size and hygiene. The tasting was a let down tasted cocoa nibs and 5 bits of chocolate but bigger than a chocolate button. Each chocolate was supposed to taste of different notes but it was just chocolate to me. Had a lovely dark hot chocolate before the tour that was delicious but paid for that. The tour cost £9.50 wasn't worth it did buy some chocolate flakes to make hot chocolate or cook with. Resisted so far.

Meet some nice people and apart from my train journey there no hiccups. I was in my reserved seat and a man sat by me . We had just pulled out of the station and he played his music very loud I asked him politely to turn it down he said no I am working. When the ticket collector came I explained and asked to be moved . The guard moved me to unreserved carriage and had a good journey.

Had afternoon tea at Betty's ,well it lunchtime but it's served all day delicious. And brought a fat rascal and custard tart from the shop for my dinner.

Knew I would put on weight yesterday had put on 4lbs . Because of my legs have been weighting and recording my weight daily to show the cardiologist when my appointment comes through. But only take Sunday as my weight for the week. This morning had lost 3lbs from yesterday. 🤦.

Hope you are all ok and fighting the good fight .

NanKate Sun 08-Sept-24 21:38:04

Well done Shirley 👍
Bon Voyage Whiff 👋

Shirleyw Sun 08-Sept-24 21:01:10

3lbs down this week…I seem to be focussed atm also upped my steps and longer dog walks.

Have a good time in York whiff.

Whiff Sun 08-Sept-24 12:45:47

MayBee packed my bag yesterday only odds and sods to go into my backpack. But got to take extra foot wear with me as my legs swollen this week . My weight shot up by 3lbs on Friday and down again yesterday. But up by a pound from last week today. So got my legs up hopefully they are down tomorrow . At least it's only one train from here and got travel assistance as usual.

But looking forward to naughty treats and will enjoy myself just have to rest when I need to.
Hope everyone has a good week.

MayBee70 Wed 04-Sept-24 15:48:04

I’m ok now. But boy did I eat a lot last night. The internet crashed so I had no idea if the flight was on schedule so I could go home when it landed. So I just stayed awake and kept nibbling at stuff. Having said that the lack of sleep counteracted the extra intake of calories! Have a great time in York. Look forward to hearing about your adventures!

Whiff Wed 04-Sept-24 15:15:31

MayBee I didn't know Nutella tasted so good until I went to Berwick upon Tweed and tried some with my breakfast but then stuck to honey.

Off to York on Monday so will put weight on . But looking forward to going . Not the putting weight on but going to York. Hope your stomach is back to normal soon.
