On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

We now have a small band of ‘regulars’ called Pears and Apples who have joined our ranks and they have brought new ideas and support. Many thanks girls what would I do without you all. I am so grateful you have stayed so loyal and been such good friends to us all.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.

Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my way of life.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

Our mantra is - Eat Less for Life.

Hello all , I have often seen the title of thread and thought "oh I must pop in there sometime" well! someone left the door open, so here I am grin

Going to try and binge read at least the thread (part 4) in the hope of sorting myself out.

For the last few months when going to my dad's the local bakery has been shouting " COME ON IN" every time I walk past, lovely home made steak pies/rhubarb and cherry moist cake slices, MASSIVE oven bottom t cakes shock

So....... watch this space and well done to all you good ladies who have achieved even a 1b weight loss. brew

NanKate thank you I am back to my normal self and back on track food wise. Another hot day again . To hot to garden until the sun starts to go off my garden about 5. 23° c in my living room at the moment and will rise as the day goes by.

Hope everyone has a good day.

NanKate Tue 30-May-23 08:03:44

Hope you are feeling more like yourself today Whiff and knowing you, you will be back on track this week.

Melt downs are miserable and falling off the wagon is to be expected at difficult times.

I have had occasions when I have had a chocolate binge, the pleasure lasts for a few minutes and then the regret sets in. Been there, got the t-shirt.

Keep going dear friend. 💐💐

TillyTrotter well done with the loss. I hate it when I have rambled on and lost the lot. Very annoying. I love other people's long chatty posts its like having a friend talking to you in the same room.

Shirley I am feeling fine. The meltdown only lasted one day but my poor eyes were very sore. As my grandsons tell me I am a ninny nannie the 2 year old started it as he couldn't say silly but his 5 year old brother has decided that's my new name as well. Mind you my daughter said you really are a ninny nannie. I haven't cried that much since my husband died 19 years ago. Even when my son estranged me I didn't have a meltdown.

Had another sunny day and looks like tomorrow will be the same so time to wash my winter coats to put away.

Shirleyw Mon 29-May-23 03:23:36

Morning all….stayed the same, very pleased with that as went for a bbq Saturday and lunch out yesterday…which included a chocolate brownie sundae!!!

Hope you have a better week whiff on how you’ve been feeling,

TillyTrotter Sun 28-May-23 17:08:08

Hi everyone, I just wrote a whole chatty post and it would not send - I lost it.
So you are saved from my blethering.
I will just say Well done to the losers (I lost 1 pound too)
and happy Irish holiday Sacha ,
and Bank Holiday everyone else.

Whiff Sun 28-May-23 12:27:33

SachaMac brilliant. I envy you going to Ireland . I am hoping to go either next year or the year after. But won't go where I went with my husband and family. Those memories I want to keep. And make new ones.

I had a complete melt down think it was Tuesday I always remember the date but not the days. Spent the day crying . I wrote about it on BD. But because of it I comfort ate this week . Even when my son estranged me I didn't do that but this time it was fear that set me off. I started watching SuperNova with Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci which just made me feel worse. So put 2 lbs on. I am so annoyed at myself for going back to old habits . But like Four says it's the start of a new week so back to my eating less for life.

Shirley the food was brilliant in Ireland when I last went so much lovely fresh seafood. And an Irish breakfast is hard to resist. We always had a cottage but went out for breakfast at least twice and always had lunch and dinner out. I don't suppose the portions have gotten smaller.

MayBee is a new start . Bit hot for your sauna bag/ suit though.

Hope you all have a good week it's going to be a hot one. 🌞

fourormore Sun 28-May-23 10:53:46

Well done sachamac it gives you a great boost doesn't it!
Sadly, I have had a naughty week when my dear friend Will Power went missing and the result is a pound up.
Never mind, this is the beginning of a new week.
Onwards and downwards fellow pears!

Shirleyw Fri 26-May-23 05:02:06

That’s fabulous sachamac’ well done, that certainly given you a boost. Have a lovely week in Ireland, hopefully there won’t be too much ‘damage’ on the scales.

SachaMac Thu 25-May-23 17:13:17

Hi all hope you’re all ok and are having a good week. Im so happy to be able to tell that today I got my ‘1 stone’ award & I’m thrilled, after a long time dilly dallying around it feels like something is finally working. I feel like I’m eating more but it’s obviously the right stuff.
I’m going away to Ireland for a weeks holiday next week so won’t be weighing in, I just hope I don’t do too much damage whilst away. I want to get cracking on the next stone while I’m in the zone.
Enjoy the bank holiday everyone, looks like nice weather for the weekend.

MayBee70 Thu 25-May-23 15:00:18

I haven’t weighed myself for ages. In fact, I think it’s the longest time I’ve ever gone without getting on the scales. I’ve got so much stressful stuff going on housewise I’m living on sandwiches. I need to get a grip.

Whiff Mon 22-May-23 06:29:14

Shirley well done with the loss. Gardening is good exercise as you use more muscles than you think. Plus throwing things into skips works arms, legs and give your waist a nice twist. The warmer weather gives us chance to be more active . Exercise class for me today . But because of yet another bank holiday no class next week.😡. Enjoy your gardening.

Shirleyw Mon 22-May-23 04:31:01

Morning all, well done on the pound off whiff, I lost a pound and a half, pleased with that.
We been gardening and lugging stuff to the tip all weekend so have had plenty of aerobic and toning exercise.
Weather map looks good for this week, have a good one guys.

Whiff Sun 21-May-23 18:46:25

Well done CocoPops. I hope one day to join you.

Four why do our bodies act so weird . Over eat and lose weight but stick to diet and put on.

I have been good all week and lost 1lb . Which is good considering I ate most of my pizza last night and had the last 3 slices for my lunch today. My daughter took me for my mother's day present last night. Dinner in the city followed by seeing Keith Brymer Jones from the pottery challenge talking about his life aided by his wife . He even threw some pots in the second half . It was very funny and he did shed a few tears. He was just as he is on the programme . Very funny and he has lived a life. He did a take off of an Adele song . If you Google Keith Brymer Jones vs Adele the video is on YouTube. It very funny and Keith is in drag.

Got an UTI Friday but luckily my GP didn't need to talk to me or see me to give the antibiotics. Been 2 years since the last one.

Spent 3 hours in the garden transplanting my veg in my greenhouse into there growing pots.

Had a busy week last week exercise class, haircut, compost delivery all 12 bags, went to my daughter's playtime with my grandson's and dinner there . Craft group and had the felt repaired on the corner of my garage. This week exercise class, shopping ,baking for my craft group and hopefully get the garden weeded.

Last week 2 of our new members mother and daughter made a chocolate cake with frosting and gluten free flapjacks both was delicious and had the recipe for the flapjacks my grandson's will love them .

NanKate hope you enjoyed your holiday. I am hoping to go on one next year . Last time I went was 2005 and only because I promised my husband I would.

Hope everyone has a good week .

Shirleyw Sun 21-May-23 16:16:59

Well done cocoapops, thats great. I too will try the water before each meal.

fourormore Sun 21-May-23 10:57:10

Well done Cocopops you must be thrilled. We are all hoping to be able to report reaching our target one day so it is encouraging for us too when a Pear actually achieves it! Congratulations!

After my miracle loss last week I behaved myself this week and, lo and behold, I have gained 1.4lb angry It is so frustrating but it seems that my body wants to stay in a weight bracket of about 3lb. Up a little, loss a little, lose a little then it's back - all within a 3lb weight range!

I used to let it freak me out and at one stage it became an obsession but that's no good so nowadays if I stay roughly where I am I am happy enough. I am about a stone 'overweight' which you would think would be easy enough to chip away at! They say the last bit is hardest to lose though.

Onwards and downwards fellow strugglers ad once again, well done Cocopops we're delighted for you flowers

SachaMac Sun 21-May-23 10:23:33

That’s brilliant Cocopops you must be delighted. I will try the glass of water, they do say our bodies are often calling out for fluid but we mistake the signals for hunger and snack instead. I suppose that’s where fruit is good as a snack as its water content as well as fibre can be quite high.

Sounds like you’ve had a great break NanKate you’ll soon get back on it. We have at least got some nice sunny weather which can help in sone ways.

TillyTrotter Sun 21-May-23 08:11:09

Congratulations CocoPops you will be thrilled. 👏

The bloated feeling is horrid but overeating is almost obligatory on a good holiday NanKate. 😃

NanKate Sun 21-May-23 07:39:34

Well done Cocopops It’s a hard battle isn’t it ?

I think the idea of a glass of water before a meal is a good idea. I will try it.

I’m on the last day of our lovely short break away in Hungerford. We have eaten out each day and had some delicious food, but I will be pleased to be back on a more restricted regime because I feel bloated, not a pretty sight.

CocoPops Sun 21-May-23 03:39:08

Well, it nearly killed me but I reached my target. One thing that helped was drinking a pint of water before meals. I also increased protein and decreased the carbs.
I should say this is the 2nd time I gave reached my target! The first time was last summer, 9 months ago, after which I lost motivation.
Keep battling on Pears.

SachaMac Sat 20-May-23 15:30:34

Ooh I love a good quiche TillyTrotter I now make them crustless but they’re never as good without the pastry.

TillyTrotter Fri 19-May-23 14:10:32

For any who are interested my weakness this week was a Quiche Lorraine which I ate alone over 2 days, and a Chicken & Mushroom pie.
I really wish I did not like pastry so much.

TillyTrotter Fri 19-May-23 14:08:17

I need the luck SachaMac , and to get motivated again. I’m glad you have lost a bit.
I am up 2 lbs and know what my “sins” were but lacked the wherewithal to say no to them.
Congrats to all who can see a loss on the scales , and I’ll endeavour to join you next week.

SachaMac Thu 18-May-23 18:40:32

Enjoy your break and your supper Nankate I weighed in at SW today and lost just 1/2lb, it’s a pack of butter gone from somewhere though so not to be sniffed at. I seem to be slowing down a little now but at least the scales are going in the right direction.

Have s great weekend everyone & good luck on the scales.

NanKate Thu 18-May-23 17:48:04

I’m just starting a 4 night hols where visits to pubs each night are on the agenda 😀 However I have eaten very modestly so far today, in order to have a decent supper 👍

I’ll buy some fruit teas they sound good. Thanks Pears for the suggestion.
