On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.
We now have a small band of ‘regulars’ called Pears and Apples who have joined our ranks and they have brought new ideas and support. Many thanks girls what would I do without you all. I am so grateful you have stayed so loyal and been such good friends to us all.
Do join us the rules are simple.
Choose your own style of diet plan.
Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.
Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.
So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my way of life.
You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.
Our mantra is - Eat Less for Life.

Well done Whiff a very decent loss.
Morning all. Silverlining I count quarter of a pound as a win . It's better than quarter of pound on.
Shinamae hope you gums feel better soon . Our bodies have a funny way of reacting to pain. I have found when I am in a pain flare even though sticking to my allowance my weight either stays the same or I put on a bit. No idea why.
Four when it's so cold our bodies I think try to conserve our fat reserves to keep us warm . Well that's my theory .
Lost 2.75 lbs this week so pleased . Looking forward to my exercise class tomorrow afternoon. Mind you my thighs hurt until Thursday. Hopefully this week they won't. Saw my neurologist on Friday he is increasing my Clonazepam so that should loosen my limbs up. As when I walk my legs are stiff and my gait is awful but it's how all with HPX are. He checked my startle reflex manually as its the only way it can be checked. It is worse than it was in April. Never knew about it until my diagnosis just thought I was weird. My daughter says well you wouldn't notice as you live a quiet live and on your own.
He got me to shut me eyes and sit up straight then clapped his hands near my ear nearly ended up on the floor. Then tapped my nose and my head shot back. Ever time he did something my body did things I didn't realise they did when startled . He was going to chase Cardiff up as he wants my genomone investigated further because my genetic mutant is of a type that hasn't been described before. Others have the same genetic mutation but not my type . Makes sense when he explains it. Seeing my cardiologist on Tuesday, then blood tests for my GP on Thursday before my craft group.
Spend yesterday with my daughter and grandson's we went to a garden centre for lunch. The 2 year old was walking quicker than old stiff legs . He held my hand and dragging me along he's funny. His brother talked non stop about school. Was good and had soup for lunch no pud. Boys love the tropical fish and the large carp. It's amazing the things you can put in fish tanks for decoration . Fish keeping isn't a cheap hobby. I will stick to cross stitch.
Noticed the trees are starting to have buds as well as the bulbs appearing and the nights are staying lighter.
Well have a good week pears .
After my welcome loss of 2lbs last week sadly most of it has returned (not quite all!!!) but to be fair the icy weather and 'home' commitments this week have lessened the exercise - also my exercise class was cancelled as the instructor was sick. Sadly being at home meant less real movement and more coffees!
Hopefully the ice will stay away this coming week as I must get some exercise each day.
I am not too worried though as if I can explain it I don't mind but I do sympathise with those who are struggling when they've tried so hard
The beauty of this thread is that we all encourage each other and as Silverlining says - tomorrow is another day!
Good luck everyone - spring will soon be with us and all being well better weather!

That’s specific, and minuscule. I don’t take much notice of quarter pounds when weighing.
Don’t be downhearted.
Tomorrow is another day.
No, I’m not downhearted as I had quite a significant loss last week and I know for my own personal weight loss journey is very sporadic, some weeks I am sure I’ve lost a couple of pounds but find I’ve put on,another I think oh my goodness I must’ve put on a but I’ve lost so it makes no sense to me but I will plod on 😁

Weekly weigh, Stark naked in the kitchen. Put on a quarter of a pound this week….😬
I have been up and down this week, but am the same tiday so no gain, but confused as I have been sensible. I shoukd know better having had weight orobkens since i had my now middle aged children.
We are having a couple of days away next week to celebrate our friends birthday so know next week will be a struggle.
Hope all goes well tomorrow Shinamae.
Gums still quite sore and due to weigh again tomorrow morning. I don’t think I will have lost 4 lb this week as I have had quite a bit of ice cream, (well it’s good for my gums you understand) have struggled to eat a piece of toast, but with the crusts cut off and I can manage baked beans quite well…. onward and upward, or rather onward and downward weight wise..🤓

Sorry to hear that, the hole left by my one back tooth removal last week is still sore so can only imagine your how much worse your 5 missing ones must be.
Are you rinsing with salty water?
Yes I am still using the salt water rinse, but my dentist said not to use it today because obviously what she put in the gum that was not healing properly.. I am lucky she is a really good Dentist, very gentle, very caring and so is her nurse..yes… that’s the way I’ve got to look at it….every cloud..😁
As you say, every cloud and all that .....

I’ve been back to the dentist this morning as my mouth is still so sore, there was a bit of bone coming through one of the sockets which she removed, also, she said one of the sockets was not healing properly and put something in it to help.. Tried last night just to eat at ordinary piece of bread and butter. Couldn’t do it,far too painful…😬..so looks like I’ll be on course to lose some more weight this week, so…….
Every cloud..☁️☁️☁️(Eating soup,pasta,yogurt)

Well done to all the losers, any stay the sames it's an achievement and gainers like me keep going the important thing is not to give up. Over the last 2 weeks put on 4lb but glad to say all the extra food and naughty food has gone after my brother and sister in law's visit. Plus the 2 boxes of Turkish delight they brought me.
Welcome all newbies to the fruit barrow. As I always say it's a marathon not a sprint. I am still running the marathon I started in 2017 and this last stone and more than a bit thanks to my weight gain has been stubborn to come off the last 2 years but I haven't given up and won't.
Had a brilliant weekend 7th with my brother and sister in law. And my daughter and grandson's came on the Saturday afternoon and the eldest got his wish to walk Aggie she's a Jack Russell. To wet too go to the park so walked the streets . He held her lead all the way and talked non stop about school my brother was a very proud great uncle. They played ball in my bungalow which thrilled them. Aggie was frightened by the 2 year old. So hid under my sister in law's legs. But he was gentle stroking her when she was held. Aggie doesn't mix with children and the boys don't have friends with dogs. But it all went very well.
The little on wanted my sister in law to get on the floor so explained she couldn't as she has poorly legs like nannie . So he got a book and climbed on her lap. The pulled his train set by her feet so she could play with him. She 6' so has long arm reach.
My grandson's like my children are growing up with an understanding of physical disabilities. It's adults that shy away from disabilities. And yet anyone at anytime can become disabled physically or mentally or both. Funny enough since my move to the north west found people don't shy away from differences. Eg in the Midlands I was on the bus side seat and because the driver had to brake hard I fell on the floor no one offered to help me up. Couple of weeks ago I stumbled on the bus and hit myself on a pole 6 people asked me if I was ok, one took my backpack off and another made sure I got to a seat. I had offers to help me off at my stop. This has veered off the thread but some have mentioned health problems and it wasn't until I moved I realised how different counties treat people. Never noticed when my husband was alive and we went on holiday. But living in an area I have.
Anyway back on subject. Started my new exercise class yesterday. It's a sit fit class but we did stand up for a couple of exercises. There where 11 of us. The instructor worked us hard harder than my old class . I think it's because my old instructor was late 20's and new one 60 . Sometimes I think the young don't realise that age doesn't mean they have to be easy on us. My poor joints are feeling it this morning but it's been months since my old classes finished. But can honestly say I enjoyed every minute of my class. Just have to try and remember people's names. Don't have to leave home to early as it's at the church round the corner from my home.
So back to 2 days a week planned every week. Seeing my neurologist on Friday ,next Tuesday cardiologist and blood tests on the Thursday at my GPs as one is fasting cholesterol will treat myself to breakfast out.
Notice the bulbs are coming up and the nights a bit lighter when it's not raining. Well have a good week fruits and keep warm it's going to get cold again. 🧘
After being ill before and during Christmas, I hardly ate, lost my taste until about a week ago , naturally thought I've at least 2 weeks calories I can eat to make up for. So I munched my way through chocolates and 2 tins of biscuits, felt bloated I had really overdone it. Weighed myself last night and now 5 lbs over my pre Christmas weight. I was already 8 lbs overweight but had decided I could cope with that, so now it's a stone. For me that means no bread as if it's in the house I have now ill power. My bra is so tight and waustbands as all my weight goes straight there. So out today to get loads of fresh vegetables, fruit etc.
Well done all you that keep on track with just the odd splurge, especially over the festive period. Good will power, mine went.
Whiff I bet your guests really enjoyed your baking and kept a bit heavier.
The rainbow couscous sounds nice sachamac, I have their books, will have to look it up.
I stayed the same, I suppose I’m lucky as we met up with the family for a premier inn breakfast…well I wasn’t gonna just have yoghurt and fruit now 😂😂 also a day trip with work I took a person I support on a London sight tour and fish and chips dinner so remaining the same I’d say was lucky lol.
Have a good week all.
I finally braved the scales to learn I am 6.6lbs over my target.
Following a great dinner out yesterday when my 11 year old GS took me out for sushi I gave myself a pep talk this morning.
Much as I love eating out it's now off the agenda (until I reach my target) because I always eat too much! I need to exercise more so in addition to twice daily dog walks and a weekly exercise class I intend to cycle more often,,,,,
Battle on ladies!
Oh, that's a good idea!
Drinks are always my downfall. I don't drink alcohol, but like to have an evening drink that marks the transition from day to night, (so not tea or squash), and it's hard to find things that aren't sugary. Watering down might be the answer. Thanks.
Doodledog a few years back I started watering down my drinks eg 7Up, Feverfew ginger beer, white wine so that I have only half the calories and now it is the norm for me. Perhaps you could try it.
Right, I've finished the last of the chocolate, so plan to start being strict tomorrow.
I had a thyroid checkup last week, and have gained even more weight since I was weighed the time before. It's so depressing. I need to cut out sugary drinks, and I'm thinking about doing a 16/8 regime. That's tricky though, as Mr Dog is diabetic and has to have regular meals. Obviously I don't have to eat because he's eating, but we do tend to have our evening meal earlier than I'd like so that he doesn't have to wait too long after lunch.
I need to build in more exercise too, which is not my strong point, particularly in this weather.
It sounds like some of you have had a really good week but a few more of us are still struggling to get back on track, me included. I have had some really positive days but last night had what I can only describe as a mini binge whilst watching tv. I do think the cold weather & my emotions are affecting my appetite but there’s no excuse really.
Anyway, I woke up this morning determined to move forward, start the week on a positive note & stick to healthy eating, so far so good, the day has gone well. I made Rainbow Couscous from the Pinch of Nom book and set some raspberries in sugar free jelly so that I can have a nice dessert this evening. The extra pounds gained over Christmas are now showing in my clothes so I am determined to do this in readiness for spring. Good luck all

Zero loss since I started the 16:8 plan. No gain either but that's not the point. May have to go back on SW plan if it doesn't change. Well done to all who lost.
Even if you’re not losing weight it’s still a very healthy lifestyle diet according to the ZOE App. I still can’t get back onto it which is frustrating as I felt really good when I was on it. It doesn’t help that the weather is so miserable and wet and I don’t want to go out for walks.
Thanks Nankate I’ll give that a go. Onwards and upwards.

A loss of just over 4lb is brilliant Shinamae but that is one really drastic way of losing weight! Sadly, when you resume 'normal' life it may be difficult to lose more for a while but hopefully you may be able to keep it off! I really hope you are feeling better as anything in the head/mouth/ears etc. is horrible.
A minor miracle has occurred here too as I have lost just under 2lb this week which is great. It nudges me just (only just but ...) below 13 stone again. If I can stay below 13stone I'll be happy and hopefully it will gradually drop slowly as I would love to be under 12 stone sometime in this century!
Good luck everyone as we carry on trying! Newbies take note - we will support you in the downs and ups!!! We all stand together! Remember we are not overweight - we are just under-tall !!! I should be 9ft 6"
Absolutely drastic,..😂….and once I can get back to having my cheese and crusty bread…🤔.. That may not be for awhile though because my mouth is still quite sore..😬
