On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

We now have a small band of ‘regulars’ called Pears and Apples who have joined our ranks and they have brought new ideas and support. Many thanks girls what would I do without you all. I am so grateful you have stayed so loyal and been such good friends to us all.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.

Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my way of life.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

Our mantra is - Eat Less for Life.

Pears hope some of you appear on here just to know you are ok. Well lost 5.25lbs this week . Having my heart blood test so hopefully it might show something as I am fed up sticking to my allowance and put weight on them it drops off. Yesterday I was 4lbs heavier than I am today my official weigh day.

At least it isn't as hot today . I don't cope very well with extremes of temperature as it effects my pain level and mobility..

Have a full week again out everyday.
Take care all.

Shirley there is a screw knob which you can turn to make it harder to pedal . It advises to start at lowest setting and work your way up. As well as a rotation counter it shows how fast you are pedalling and how many kilometres you have gone and something else which I have forgotten.
I use it on the lowest setting because that's best for me. Plus you can use it on a work surface or table to pedal and give your arms a work out . But I have resistance bands and 2 x 500g bum bells for that. I only use the counter and speed settings. Make sure the feet are on the flat edge and it can be used anywhere but I put against a wall when pedaling that way I know it's not going anywhere. I love the face I can pedal as there is no way I can ride a bike. I started by doing 200 rotations a day for a week now 300 daily. But I do 7 wake up exercises before hand . If you do want to buy them make sure you do a few warm up legs exercises. So you don't pull a muscle .

What a good idea whiff….i can sit and watch telly whilst pedalling ….can you change the’gear’ so to speak or is it the same strength? Can’t think of the word…

Whiff Sun 28-Jul-24 12:28:13

Shirley if interested just looked it up Amazon choice made by Easy Life Ltd £25.99

Whiff Sun 28-Jul-24 12:05:22

Shirley well done . These are static pedals. I sit on a dinning chair and put my feet on the pedal not through the straps and do 300 rotations a day after doing my wake up exercises 8,100 today. Got them off Amazon will look up what I ordered if you are interested. They fold up but I leave them as they are . Hide them when my grandsons come as they will want a go and I like to keep count of my rotations on the counter.

Mid week lost 4 lb but legs up again so put on 2.75lbs but will keep counting cals and exercising.

Shirleyw Sun 28-Jul-24 05:40:49

Hi,have stayed the same these last couple of weeks,I find I’m eating smaller portions these days…which I’m pleased about.

What are static pedals whiff ?

Summer is here at last.

Whiff Tue 23-Jul-24 05:58:13

On Sunday which is my official weight day had put on 1.5 lbs. But since having my legs swelling weighing and recording my daily weigh. Yesterday I had lost 2.5lbs from the day before 🤷. Having a BT on 6th special test for my heart.

But I still plug away weighting and counting cals . Doing my 7 wake up exercises every morning and after taking my BP . 300 rotations on my static pedals up to 6,000 yesterday.

Went to sit fit it was circuit week it's always fun. We pair up and was paired with someone different to my usual partner's . It was lovely and had a good chat whilst exercising. It's funny our instructor always asks if we are all well and we always say the same thing we are here. As no matter how much pain or our mobility is off we turn up every week because we all feel better for going. It's not just exercise but social . The music yesterday was from the Greatest showman. But we didn't do the entrance into the ring dance 🤣🤣🤣.

Whiff Sun 14-Jul-24 13:30:06

Afternoon pears and other fruits . Lost 2lb this week which pleased about as by Wednesday put on 4lbs but know it was water .
Can't remember if I said I brought some static pedals probably did anyway doing 300 rotations a day . Will stick at that and see about upping it next week. Still do my 7 wake up exercises every morning . My life works because of routine it's how it always have even before my diagnosis for HPX.

Wish summer would come back . Back in long sleeve tee shirts and jumpers . Anyway have a good week everyone.

Whiff Wed 10-Jul-24 09:49:27

Doesn't not does need checking 🤦🤦🤦

Whiff Wed 10-Jul-24 09:48:39

MayBee warfarin is a blood thinner and some people are prescribed it. But with warfarin you need weekly blood tests and the dose changes weekly depending on your blood. I take Apixaban which is a blood thinner but does need checking and had no side effects from taking it . I bruise easier and bleed like anything when I have a cut but by taking it it lowers my risk of a stroke as I have PAF. I take Flecainide to regulate my heart .
Warfarin caused my dad to have a stomach bleed so was changed to a different blood thinner and was fine. I would have refused warfarin if they had said to take it .

MayBee everyday is a new start. Put on 3lb over night but I slept all night and didn't wake up twice like I normally do for the loo. So hopefully tomorrow will have lost it. 🤔.

MayBee70 Wed 10-Jul-24 07:14:00

Had a set back diet wise as we heard of someone doing a charity walk who needed a bed for the night so had to rustle up a meal which I wasn’t intending to have and ate far more than I intended to. I didn’t realise they didn’t give out water tablets any more. Does that mean people don’t take warfarin now?

Whiff Wed 10-Jul-24 05:13:32

Saw my GP yesterday. Need a blood test for my heart as they don't give out water tablets nowadays. Depending on the results may need an echocardiogram been a few years since I last had one. But feel ok just sticking to my cals and hope my weight sorts itself out. Booked test first available appointment at my closest phlebotomy clinic 6th but time flies by for me so it's not really that long to wait. Phlebotomy nurse at GPs on maternity leave. Upped my turns on static it pedals to 300 this week as I did 200 last. But 300 is my limit . Still doing my 7 wake up exercises every morning . It's just part of my morning routine.

Monday beautiful and sunny went to sit fit in cardigan. Yesterday back to long raincoat as it rained most of the day and raining again today. Typical British summer.

Well done Maybe. Keep at it.

MayBee70 Mon 08-Jul-24 14:23:27

Well, yet again I find that I haven’t actually put on as much weight as I’d thought. I haven’t measured myself yet. I put it on my thighs, they literally increase by inches when I’m not doing as much walking. I’ve got three weeks to turn things around. My knee is ok at the moment so I’ll attempt to restart m evening walk and am going to start doing various exercises from Facebook and utube.

NanKate Mon 08-Jul-24 07:30:39

Maybee70 I used to snack in the evening, I was never hungry just had got into the habit of expecting extra food. Last July after a nasty comment by an assistant in the charity shop, I decided to stop eating after my evening meal. The first week was hard and if I felt desperate I had a hot drink, then it became the norm. Sadly I haven’t lost weight but I am no longer putting on weight.

MayBee70 Sun 07-Jul-24 22:56:57

It did when I could stick to it. But it only works if I can have an early night and sleep through most of it. Recently I’ve been staying up late and, when I do I snack a lot.

NanKate Sun 07-Jul-24 15:17:33

I’m so sorry Whiff about the problem with your legs, clearly this is nothing to do with calorie intake and more to do with water retention I do hope the doctor can help you.

Maybe do you find the 16/8 system works for you?

Whiff Sun 07-Jul-24 14:58:51

MayBee have you seen any of the Vera cast or any from 28 years later ? They are in Northumberland at the moment. Hope you are able to do some walking as that will help you. Still talk about meeting you. Showed my brother and sister in law pictures I took while in Berwick and our boat ride. Very happy memories. 😊

MayBee70 Sun 07-Jul-24 13:22:14

I wondered how you were getting on Whiff. Hope you sort your legs out. I’m still eating far too much and am scared to weigh myself but I’m now back in Northumberland and hope to restart the 16:8 diet again.

Whiff Sun 07-Jul-24 11:52:44

Morning pears . Well my weight is driving me round the bend legs like balloons again so 3lb on from last week mid week down 4lb from Sunday. But only count Sundays weight. Since booking my appointment to see GP recorded my weight everyday so she can see how it changes . It takes eating 3,500 cals less a week to lose 1lb how can I put on 4lb over night 😱 as I did from one day to the next. Hopefully she can help me when I see her on a Tuesday.

Wouldn't might but been sticking to my cals apart from Thursday when my brother and sister in law came for the day. Had a wonderful day and took them to my craft group. They could see why they are so important to me. Had lots of messages from my crafty lot saying how much they like them.

Well another week of battle ahead weight wise. Hope you are faring better than me.

NanKate Wed 03-Jul-24 07:19:16

Yes I agree Whiff about Keep Fighting the Good Fight. 👍

Whiff Fri 28-Jun-24 07:31:06

Allsorts you haven't given up either and that's the main thing .

I baked brownies for craft group this week so had my piece there . Only 5 of us yesterday but the others took the rest home with them . All the cakes I made cut into 16 pieces . The Parkin I made for the library staff last week was a hit they cut it into 12 for the 6 of them.

Last week a librarian brought in 3 hessian squares for this project so I took 2 and these are my efforts . Hopefully they are good enough to go on the banner.

Keep going fighting the good fight against weight gain we will win one day. 🤷

Whiff Fri 28-Jun-24 07:20:39

MayBee when I decluttered my house before I sold it I set myself a goal of decluttering a room at a time plus I packed 2 boxes a day ready for my move. I have to have routine as it the way my life works . I found decluttering my house decluttered my mind and let go of things I don't know why I keep.

Recently I had a declutter of my bungalow thought necessity as some things are just to heavy for me to use . Plus I got rid of all the towels and tea towels I had for years and had holes in . Brought new ones from Asda which wasn't expensive.

Before my move I had 600 books and halved that to books I would recommend read again unfortunately my book collection is growing again but they are books I will re read. My craft supplies are growing but I love cross stitching. It completely relaxes me and you can't eat while doing it.

At least you are using food that you had stocked and eating healthy. But you haved given up the fight to lose weight and that's the main thing . So keep going .

MayBee70 Thu 27-Jun-24 13:35:42

Same here. It started with me baking banana bread. I was doing a 12 hour fast and made the cake so I had something to look forward to. I’d try to stop eating in the evening and fast for as long as possible. But then I started waking up early and eating some. And then having a slice after a meal. It is quite healthy: organic wholemeal flour and I add walnuts sultanas and cinnamon and reduce the sugar. But I’m still eating too much of it. And it gives me a bit of a sweet tooth.

Allsorts Thu 27-Jun-24 07:48:03

Im the same Maybe, but I continue the cycle. Think I need to go to a retreat with other like minded soles. I did lose 7lbs then got complacent it went back on in less than a fortnight, it took me ages to lose. Feel very despondent about it.
