On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle. Many people have joined up and many pounds lost and a few gained.

We now have a small band of ‘regulars’ called Pears and Apples who have joined our ranks and they have brought new ideas and support. Many thanks girls what would I do without you all. I am so grateful you have stayed so loyal and been such good friends to us all.

Do join us the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.

Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.
Pass on any useful diet tips.

So for example I started calorie counting with the NHS Diet Plan. I now eat what I like but make portion control my way of life.

You have nothing to lose, other than weight, on this thread.

Our mantra is - Eat Less for Life.

Sorry to hear about your daughter Whiff glad you could help out with your grandson.

I need to take myself in hand and get back onto Eating Less for Life.

Onward and downward. 👋

Just realised hadn't posted for a couple of weeks . Grannyactivist I love the red painting . I blew up the picture to get a proper look it's beautiful. Can you dip the paper or canvas in it more than once or does the first dip remove all the colours?

Well put 2.25 lbs on but had a very stressful week so over ate. My brother had a new hip socket fitted on Monday 18th but he was home on the Wednesday. Taking a walk each day with a friend using 2 crutches. Doing his exercises. He could only have spinal tap and sedation but he said he sleep through the 3.5 hours long operation.

My daughter was very ill last week and had emergency text Thursday
early morning could I look after my grandson. She worked from home to ill too go to the office but had online training and meetings. By lunch time she had lost her voice but slept on the afternoon. My grandson had 2 nose bleeds in the night and the bedding was soaking in cold water . After I gave it a scrub then worked out how to use my daughter's washing machine and the tumble dryer with his help made up his bed.

Every time I need the loo he insisted on coming with me .Have you tried to have a wee when a 3 year old is prodding your tummy and asking why are you squashy. Being on Calpol gave him an upset tummy hadn't wiped a very pooy bottom since he was in nappies . But at least he knew when he needed the loo.

Going to see his brother in school production this afternoon then the youngest has Easter hat parade.

Sit fit was good. I had made some small hybrid lemon marmalade drizzle cakes . I can't use a grater any more. So use my lemon marmalade to make the cake and put some sugar mixed with lemon juice on top. Everyone was pleased . Our instructor gave us a little Lindt bunny. Still doing my morning wake up exercises and doing 25 mins on day I don't go out apart from Sundays as after my shower I am wiped out.

Yesterday made brownies to take too craft tomorrow and a large hybrid lemon marmalade lemon drizzle cake for the library staff as they look after our box. Both keep well.

Have a good week everyone. 🐇🐣 Happy Easter.

Whiff the painting with the red off centre is my most recent effort - I’m really quite pleased with it, but the photo was taken while the paint was still wet so it will look a little different when it’s dry. The other two show an original pour, mostly black and yellow, and then how that turned out.

MayBee there are some brilliant exercise videos on YouTube. I follow the Improved Health videos; I’ll put a link below to one of the ones I do. There really are exercises for everyone.

I never got to Cork. Used to do one part of Ireland a year but stopped going when we’d planned to go further south.

Whiff Fri 15-Mar-24 17:35:38

MayBee when I decide to do something I have to do it. It doesn't matter how much pain I am in or how bad my mobility is I can't not do what I plan. I have been doing it all my life. But I know it's not me just being weird but others with HPX are the same . It's sets off my anxiety if I can't do what I plan. Until talking to others with HPX I never knew what I was feeling was anxiety.

Got my train tickets for my holiday all sorted and travel assistance booked . So feel more relaxed now that's done. Even thinking about going away in September . But all holidays will be in this country no planes for me. I couldn't get up the steps nor be crammed in a plane. Plus my daughter would have kittens . When I said to my daughter I wanted to go too Cork she said are you kidding me. She was worried incase I needed her quickly.

But all the places I would like to visit are places I never went with my husband as those memories are precious.

Have fun baby sitting tonight.

MayBee70 Fri 15-Mar-24 17:08:31

Dog seems to be ok having cost me a few hundred pounds! I'm a bit ocd and when I've got one thing on my mind I can't seem to get other things done. Babysitting tonight but when I get home I'm going to get myself organised.

Whiff Fri 15-Mar-24 06:05:12

MayBee at least it's gone. Sorry your dog is no better.

MayBee70 Thu 14-Mar-24 23:01:21

Well, I ended up eating the Nutella. It’s down to being stuck at home with my poorly dog ( that’s my excuse). I need to get a grip!

Shirley I used to knit when the children where younger but when I couldn't co ordinate my hands had to stop. I make small things with my sewing machine like cushions with my cross stitch on the front. Made clothes before I got married.

My dad made a lot of clothes for mom and me . I remember him making me hot pants out of crimplene only wore them once. My mom knitted from when she was 6 and got very upset in her late 80's when she couldn't do it anymore as the first signs of dementia set in.

I love the sewing bee ,pottery challenge and the woodwork one. Last year my daughter for mother's day booked tickets for us to see Keith Brymer Jones and his wife at the theatre talking about his life he even threw a few pots. He's doing another tour this year if he is near you it's well worth going. Brilliant evening .

Shirleyw Wed 13-Mar-24 20:40:00

I knit and sew…..knitted since a child but sewing only the last few years, actually watching the sewing bee started me off and I love it….stops me from eating

Whiff Wed 13-Mar-24 06:38:05

Shirley by watching your portions you will have a lovely surprise when you brave the scales.

grannyactivist I have seen people do that it's fascinating the effects you can get . Keeps your mind and hands active like my cross stitch you can't eat while doing it. I don't drink while cross stitching my hands tremble all the time due to my HPX especially my right. I had a drink of hot chocolate while my cross stitch was on my lap and spilt some on my half finished work. Thank goodness for my vanish stick . I was very cross with myself . Not the worst disaster I have had because of my hands. Boiling hot mug of blackcurrant and blueberry fruit tea on my light grey carpet . Dr Beckman to the rescue .

Would you be willing to post some of your work for us to see?

Anyone with else hobbies they love doing ? I think they help keep our minds and body active. I think cross stitch has kept arthritis out of my hands as it keeps my fingers nimble.

grannyactivist Wed 13-Mar-24 00:38:30

Whiff I’ve started doing fluid art/acrylic paint pouring. I mix my own paints and find doing that and the actual painting very therapeutic, it’s a mindful activity and I’m finding it very relaxing. There’s also a lot to learn regarding the various techniques, paint densities, colour compatibility etc. I get so engrossed I find it easy not to even think about eating. 😄

Shirleyw Tue 12-Mar-24 20:32:02

Well done whiff. I’ve watched my portion size this week, still not braved the scales, don’t think I put on though.

Your brother is doing well. Hope it goes ok Monday.

Weather is grotty, rained all day here.

Whiff Tue 12-Mar-24 11:41:09

Morning all . Lost quarter of pound this week but at least it's a loss. Still doing my morning wake up exercises. And still doing 25 mins at home and using my 500g ankle weights at home and at sit fit. No class next week as our instructor at a funeral. So will aim to do more exercise that day .

My brother is down to 14st 2lb post op went fine Monday ready for his operation on Monday coming . Should only be in a couple of days . Then a long drive home in the back of one of his friends car. They have big cars so he can sit with legs up and seat belt on. At least living in a bungalow getting about will be easier and he has been cooking meals for a couple of weeks so freezer full of healthy meals for the 3 of them.

Take care all .

Whiff Sat 09-Mar-24 05:48:58

MayBee why is it we always hurt the part of us that is our bad part🤷. With me it's my left arm or leg. Glad you knee is better now.

grannyactivist sorry you have been unwell hope you feel better soon. What is your new hobby? I read everyday and addicted to cross stitch. Funny enough my hands don't tremble when doing my cross stitch no idea why. I love pieces that can take 3 months. Small pieces that can take a couple of days I do usually are for gifts. It's a slow craft so I fine it very relaxing.

grannyactivist Fri 08-Mar-24 21:26:51

Just popping in to say hello. I’m sticking rigidly to my ‘healthy eating’ plan of protein and low carb fruit and vegetables, but I’ve not been doing so much exercise as I’ve been unwell again. I’m spending a lot of time on a hobby which is very absorbing (I’m new at it so a lot to learn) and a great distraction from thinking about food. Today it was about three o’clock before I even thought about lunch.

MayBee70 Fri 08-Mar-24 11:50:34

I’ve actually been quite good with the Nutella. Which doesn’t mean that, at some point I won’t start eating it by the spoonful to get a chocolate fix! I’m still having a slice of tea bread to break my fast. Last night I kept wanting to eat a slice of bread but I didn’t although I did break my fast with a cup of tea. I had to wake up at 5 to give the dog her antibiotic as her latest one is every 12 hours and I’m slowly having to adjust it to a more suitable time. Mind you, I have a very erratic sleep pattern at the best of times! There are some very good Facebook exercises thatI keep planning to do.I hurt my bad knee when I was at my partners. We arranged to meet the family on the beach but, when we got there the steps were gone. I was able to slide down on my bottom but, getting back up I had to put all of my weight on my bad knee. Yet again I’ve got away with it, though as, after being sore for a couple of weeks it’s ok again!

Shirleyw Fri 08-Mar-24 03:17:09

Hi all, I’ve not been on scales for about 3 / 4 weeks, I don’t think I’ve put on. I’ve lost my oomph a bit during Jan and feb, I shall perk up soon with the lighter evenings and better weather. I still walk daily and go to Pilates on Friday mornings. don’t always feel like it but I do go.

Like you whiff’ when we have the family down I get them to take back the spare food. They like that as well lol.

We have our GD down after school today for the weekend, she has requested a Chinese take away for this evening and to make pizzas for Saturday . I shall have to choose wisely.

Hope your dog is feeling better maybe.

Hope you all have a good weekend.

Whiff Thu 07-Mar-24 10:44:32

MayBee just had a look Age UK have some videos you mind like to try.

Whiff Thu 07-Mar-24 10:40:11

MayBee hopefully your dog improves with the warmer weather. Are there any zoom classes you could take part of ? Ones that would be suitable for your abilities. Perhaps some charities have online classes if you have any medical conditions? 🤸

MayBee70 Wed 06-Mar-24 14:52:55

My dog might need an operation to remove the nail but the vet didn’t think it was anything sinister although that can never be totally ruled out. At least I don’t feel sick and shaky as I was this morning on the way to the vets, and it was a new vet who was lovely ( don’t seem to see the same vet these days, not like the past when you’d have the same vet for years and they were like a family friend). So thankfully I’m in ‘not particularly hungry’ mode but eating when necessary and not binge eating out of sheer misery! And I’m motivated to start on the house in case I have a bandaged dog next week. Still ruling out a visit to the gym, though, as I daren’t risk catching anything. I did ask m daughter to take the Nutella home with her but she didn’t have room in the car!

NanKate Wed 06-Mar-24 07:19:09

Maybe70 you sound as if you need a bit of tlc.💐 Coping with all the ups and downs of life can affect our eating habits.

Such good advice from Whiff on getting her family to take away food she bought for them, so that she isn’t tempted.

My eating habits have little to do with hunger, it’s a mind game, especially where chocolate is involved.

Keep going.

Whiff Wed 06-Mar-24 06:23:27

MayBee with the clean up from having new windows in should give you some exercise . Sorry your dog isn't any better. Is it just the paw infection ? I'm like you I can eat more if worried but if it's a real worry I don't eat as much but keep falling asleep. Our bodies are a mystery. If I buy things because the family come for a meal then I get them to take any things I brought specially home with them that I have no control over. But like everyone else you never give up.

MayBee70 Tue 05-Mar-24 23:45:11

I seem to have put on a few pounds. Not walking the dog has been a problem and I always eat badly when we travel back. Sandwiches and packets of crisps etc. Need to restart my evening fasts. My worries about my dog could go either way. When I’m really worried I can hardly eat but slightly less worried can result in me snacking a lot. I also have a large jar of Nutella which I bought when the family stayed the other week.I love Nutella!Another thing I do when I’m worried is sleep a lot even though I should be unpacking. I also left my house in a state of complete chaos, having had two windows replaced just before I went away. I need to get motivated!
