Mounjaro - weight loss injections
(141 Posts)I am starting Mounjaro next week, I have 5 stone to lose. Have any gnetters used this successfully? Any tips?
MayBee you can buy them online there are between £105-£249. Depending on which one you have and dosage .
I was quite shocked to drive past a local pharmacy and seeing an advert in the window for weight loss injections.
There is no magical way to lose weight . You have to put in the effort. Stop eating to much ,stop eating high calorie foods and exercise . And yes I know what I am taking about me 5 years but lost 7st from size 32 to 16. It's a marathon not a sprint to loose weight . And it's hard work and learning to get rid of all your bad habits . Still trying to lose the last stone 3 year of trying but one day I will get there..
What makes me laugh is people are ready to take these jabs not knowing what long term harm they can do . And yet people kicked up such a fuss about having covid jabs and there are some people who still won't have them or the flu jab.
And yet people are willing to put there health at risk to lose weight by having a jab.
Apologies, I mean Dame Jenni Murray. 🤭

I wish you the best. But honestly and truly, don't think this is the way forwards. And the cost to the NHS is humongous.
Same here. My friend has battled with her weight all her adult life. She has taken every pill on the market, she has been hypnotised, she has tried WW, SW (countless times), she has had counselling, tried every diet going, she has had a gastric bypass on the NHS. Nothing has kept the weight off.
The GP refused to allow her the injections as he said if the gastric bypass didn’t work, neither would the jabs. She therefore bought them privately and didn’t lose anything.
Her problems are in her head the GP says and because she doesn’t like any fruit or veg or anything healthy she will never lose weight. Her favourite foods are sandwiches, fish and chips, steak and kidney puddings, fried scampi, cheese, sausages, meat pies etc. she also loves wine which she is not supposed to drink after they gave her the bypass. You do understand that your 'friend' is very much an outlier and can't really be used to characterise everyone who is overweight?
Wrong. There are thousands like my friend as a trip to SW or WW will confirm. They are overweight because they eat the wrong things and have done so for most of their lives.
Your friend has had a gastric bypass FFS. That is very extreme. I am on a number of FB groups and most are veterans of SW and WW and have lost weight but have regained it. Your friend is very much an outlier. What percentage of fat people have hat a gastric bypass then? Just out of interest.
Loads of people have had baristric surgery, either band, sleeve or bypass and have regained the weight and are now on weight loss jabs.
Ask Dame Judi Murray for one!
Bluebelle I think the drug does quiet the food craving noise and gives the user a chance for their brains to rewire.
I don't think this is a fad like turkey teeth of trout pouts, it's more like gastric bands and sleeves. There are considerable health issues associated with obesity, and we have so many type 2 diabetics now which can and does cause blindness and vascular issues leading to unpleasant amputations and finally death. None of which is cheap to society.
This is why the NHS did a study and concluded it would be cheaper for healthcare to give this kind of treatment to people to retrieve them from the slippery slope of ill health they had gone down. Obviously they have budget and capacity issues but they're currently rolling it out.
I am pragmatic, I have maybe 15 years left if I am lucky. If I spend that having weekly mounjaro subcutaneous injections then I will. I have COPD and I cannot exercise if I put weight on as I have no puff.
I don't really see how it affects anyone if I do this privately and I am sure it will reduce my use of the NHS over the next years.
Whiff
No and never would . But if you are set on taking it. Have you checked it won't interfere if you are on any medication.
If you have any food allergies have you checked it does contain any? Some tablets and injections contain egg albumen as part of the manufacturing process.
I would keep a daily diary of how you feel and any side effects or skin changes plus bowel habits . As it may show signs of the drug not suiting you .
Just be careful and do you know how long you will be having it ?
Please remember you have to reduce your food intake you can't rely on the drug to magically melt away the stones.
Wish you well but please be careful.
I did it the hard way over 5 years and lost 7st . I realised loosing and keeping off the weight is a marathon not a sprint . I was size 32 and over 19st. Now a size 16. Will never be slim and was obese for decades and even with exercise the skin doesn't magically tighten up. I am baggy and saggy but I don't care . Been trying to lose the last stone for 3 years one day I will do it . I am 66.
Wow!! Well done
Are those using these injections prepared to use them for life or do you believe that when you stop using them the weight will magically stay off
Do you know what you are putting in your body it’s another fad like Turkey teeth and fish lips

Another resurrected old post.
I know someone who has the injections but carries on eating rubbish... some people just need therapy.

There are now 18 believed deaths from these injections There has been quite a big item on the television tonight and it was underlined that people should only be taking these drugs under closely observations of a health care professional
Diabetic people who were put on these weight loss injections by their GP will have had various tests and questions about whether it is safe for them to take.
People who are buying it online for weight loss purposes are not going through this process. A few questions about weight and height and they get it.
Numbers of people getting very ill from taking the jabs are increasing daily.

I’ve been reading these posts with interest. I started Mounjaro last month. I am 70 and have been dieting etc since I was 16. After one month I have lost 10 lbs and I am ecstatic. Usually, if I am lucky I lose 1lb every 2 weeks with strict calorie counting. It’s the noise and voices in your head ‘ There’s a piece of cake in the larder, have a small piece’ ‘ Cheese is protein, it’ll help you feel fuller’ and all such thoughts. It’s hard.
Mounjaro has turned this noise off. I have always eaten healthy meals, it’s the sneaky snacks in between. I’m not a drinker but happily share a bottle of wine at meal time.
Quite frankly Mounjaro is the best thing that’s happened to me in a long time. I lost 7 stone many years ago and keeping it off is so hard and harder as I get older. I’ve put 2 stone back on and that’s what I’m trying to get off.
Regarding discount codes. I used one to get my initial dose. When you use someone’s code you get money off and they get money off their next order. Some one else’s discount code is only available for a single use, it cannot be used multiple times.
I understand that the use of Mounjaro can be abused, so can every drug manufactured. We are responsible for our own decisions.
There is a whole section on Mumsnet dedicated to discount codes, not just weight loss injections. It really isn't a problem, people have to take personal responsibility for using anything recommended. There is currently a thread on here about eyedrops. If you have a bad reaction to those your eyesight is at risk. Any drugs or even supplements can engender a reaction which can prove fatal but we can't stop talking about any medication.

Mounjaro is not yet available as a medication for weight loss within the NHS
This would seem to be advertising.
Mounjaro was approve by the NHS for diabetic patients in June and it is likely to be approved for those with obesity and heart failure next month.
I am hoping it will be and that DH will get it. There is a genetic pre-disposition to obesity in his family going back to generations born in the 19th century and we have family photos to prove it. Not everyone but 2 or 3 in each generation. Unfortunately DH is one of the 2 in his generation. His cousin, like his uncle and grandmother all died relatively young from heart disease.

I have reported Thuvas post as spam.
Probably no point!

I really don’t think it’s right to be passing these discount codes on here What if three people try to use it ? What if someone NOT suitable uses it ?
With all the rules and regulations on here I feel this is very lax of HQ to let these offers happen
There is no point in taking the pills if you do not change you eating pattern to one that enables you to keep the weight off once it has gone.
Loosing weight is the easy bit. Keeping it off is the really had part.
