I am starting Mounjaro next week, I have 5 stone to lose. Have any gnetters used this successfully? Any tips?

I’m on it and it’s brilliant. I don’t have any side effects but I’ve stayed on a low ish dose. I’ve lost 1.3 lbs in 2 months
Do you mean 1 st 3 lb PinkRinse ? Not 1.3 anything?
Well done but I have been doing calorie counted ready meals for the last 7 weeks and am 1 1/2lb off losing my (first) stone. I should pass it by the end of my second calendar month.
I wonder how much the injections are helping you or the awareness of what you are eating plus a bit of novelty value.
I am sceptical by nature and remember all too well the “magic” diet drugs of past years designed to boost metabolism - or speed as we now know them to be.

I wish you the best. But honestly and truly, don't think this is the way forwards. And the cost to the NHS is humongous.

So what do you suggest as an alternative - for people who have already tried everything?
For a lot of people it really isn't as simple as "eat less, move more".

The cost to the NHS from obesity and related conditions is also enormous. Surely anything which helps to combat that has to be welcomed?

Same here. My friend has battled with her weight all her adult life. She has taken every pill on the market, she has been hypnotised, she has tried WW, SW (countless times), she has had counselling, tried every diet going, she has had a gastric bypass on the NHS. Nothing has kept the weight off.

The GP refused to allow her the injections as he said if the gastric bypass didn’t work, neither would the jabs. She therefore bought them privately and didn’t lose anything.

Her problems are in her head the GP says and because she doesn’t like any fruit or veg or anything healthy she will never lose weight. Her favourite foods are sandwiches, fish and chips, steak and kidney puddings, fried scampi, cheese, sausages, meat pies etc. she also loves wine which she is not supposed to drink after they gave her the bypass.

Dang!! I proof read my post a couple of times but still missed a word needing correction. sad

~~ every other weight loss PROGRAM

rocketship Sun 13-Oct-24 15:08:10

Great!!! Good for you~~ smile

It's so very frustrating to have some intimate that those who are using Ozempic, Monjaro, etc have not seriously tried every other weight loss problem. There is no 'hard way' vs 'easy way' to get to a healthy weight! What works for some, no matter how hard they try does not work for others.

Every success to getting to a healthy weight for you!! flowersflowersflowers

Mrs Happy, that is wonderful news. Please keep us updated. Best wishes to you. x

If anyone is interested, I am now on day 2 and so far no side effects. I have been eating a Slimming World type diet and have felt no desire to overeat. I will report again next week. Feeling optimistic so fingers crossed.

Good Luck, hope it works for you

utterbliss Sat 12-Oct-24 14:21:08

Mrs Happy, I have been reading about possible side effects, such as indigestion and feeling nauseous, compared to morning sickness, by one person.

It would be interesting to hear if you suffer from these symptoms.

Best of luck, Keep in touch.x

Yes, I can confirm you barely even feel the needle.

Never heard of this drug until this thread today & lo & behold I’ve just being speaking to my diabetic nurse who has suggested that I trial it to treat my diabetes and weight gain. I’ve never had to inject myself or anyone else for that matter. For those who have taken this medication do you use a standard syringe or is it like an epipen ?

It’s in a pre-loaded pen and the needle is tiny. I can’t even feel it.

I’m on it and it’s brilliant. I don’t have any side effects but I’ve stayed on a low ish dose. I’ve lost 1.3 lbs in 2 months, where I only managed to loose 5lbs in a year. In the past the weight fell off but since I’ve hit my 60’s in doesn’t. For me it takes the noise away from food. I have 1 biscuit in the evening whereas in the past it would have been numerous biscuits, plus my portion sizes are half what they were. I think you’ll be delighted. Happy to answer any questions you have.

My daughter takes Ozempic tablets on NHS as she had type 2 diabetes. She lost 2 stone and is now classed as only "pre-diabetic".

WE are the celebrities! Do not forget

Thanks for this thread. I've only heard about celebrities who have taken it before so it is good to hear the experiences of Gransnet members.

Hi , yes I have used Monjaro for 3 months and feel amazing. Along side my Monjaro I stopped sugar, white potatoes, bread , pasta pizzas and processed foods. Including the sweet stuff. My body is back in shape, I look healthy, younger and my brain is sharper and positive. Over all very happy. I started at 2.5mg and went to 7 5mg twice. No higher for myself because I lost my desired weight. Monjaro trains you to eat healthy to become a new you.

This is the company my friend used www.secondnature.io/mounjaro-weight-loss-programme
But you can buy the injection online from Boots, Asda- pharmacy and Superdrug Pharmacy which are all reputable.
I know nothing about the company my friend is using I’m just witnessing the amazing results!

MrsHappy Wed 09-Oct-24 16:18:21

Thank you all for your replies. I am aware it is not a magic pill (unfortunately) and I need to make major changes.
I am trying it as I am desperate. I have tried my whole life to control my weight but fluctuate all the time. It's literally either feast or famine with me. My wardrobe goes from 12 to 24!
What attracts me to this drug is hearing that the food noise goes. I really want to know what it feels like to not be thinking about food constantly.

Alltogethernow Wed 09-Oct-24 16:07:54

I took it from May to July, worked up from 2.5mg to 7.5mg. I lost 1 stone over the 3 months. Unfortunately, I had an unusual side effect in that it gave me Insomnia, which got worse as I went up the doses. Decided my sleep was more important than the weight loss. On the plus side, I didn’t get any other side effects and I have been able to maintain the loss (though I still have another 2 stone to lose)

I may have another go next year but hoping to lose the weight with other means I.e. calorie counting and more exercise.

Seriously speaking it started life as a diabetes control drug and weight loss is a beneficial side effect.
To me obesity is so serious it should be welcomed and used much more quickly with monitoring of course.
The epidemic of obesity is massive and costs the health service a fortune with all it brings.
I too am overweight and could benefit health wise from losing some lbs.
