Hi I’m new here!.. I’m an Apple!
Have always lost weight in the past by eating 2 meals of 200 cals and 1 healthy meal. Doesn’t seem to be working anymore, also tried cutting out carbs but as I’m not a lover of meat and fish it’s hard to find what to eat! Looking forward to tips from everyone here to spit me on..

Hi Nannykim!

I came here a few months ago because I knew I had to shift some weight around my middle. It is an ongoing challenge to eat healthy food but I have lowered my intake of bread and sugary stuff, especially biscuits!

I now follow a mediterranean diet which has helped a lot, and I have grown to love meat and fish which is high in protein and stops the craving for carbs.
I have a George Forman grill which I use almost every day- it is so easy to put on a bit of fish or meat and cooks so quickly. You can marinade both fish and meat in your favourite herbs/spices or just sprinkle some on top to add as much flavour as you like.
I also grill vegetables and have fresh fruit in a morning. I have really upped my intake of vegetables and eat veg only dishes at least three times a week.
For me it is all about changing those bad habits into better ones, but also adapting the basic fresh food to your own tastes as I don't see the point of eating food you don't like!
I also make a pudding of meringue and yogurt with fruit, nuts and dark chocolate. Delicious! Not for every day though.
I hope you find lots of good advice here and find the right path for you for losing weight and being healthy at the same time!

Nannykim to lose weight you need to eat 3,500 cals per week than your body needs to lose a pound . But if you eat to few cals per day your body thinks you are starving and holds on to the fat reserves . As we get older our metabolism slows down . It's trial and error to get the right balance between what you need to lose weight and what your body needs . I eat 1,200-1,300 per day . But I weight and measure everything I eat and drink and count cals . I have blips and put weight on but I haven't given up since 2017 . My way of eating won't suit most people but it works for me as I can't cook fresh everyday. But I do cook from scratch. I have 60g dry porridge and 300ml of oat milk and cooked in microwave. My lunch is home made veg and red lentil soup make enough for 6 lunches . My dinner is a stew or lasagne or pasta bake enough for 6 dinners . I either use chicken breast or Quorn mince, chicken pieces or sausages which I brown in little oil and cut into pieces. . . In my stews I use pearl barely as it bulks it out . When using Quorn use 300g or mince or chicken pieces or 8 Quorn sausages. Chicken breast use around 400g. Plenty of veg . I eat this way all year round even on the hottest day. My pud is Easiyo low fat yogurt or fat free depending on what I have in to make . I don't buy foods I have no control over unless I have guests and they take leftovers home . I love to bake but I take it to my craft group so I can have a piece or a couple of biscuits depends on what I have made. but never bring anything home. When I bake with my grandsons they take it home with them. But it's my way . We all have our own way and foods we can't control.
Best thing about the Pears it's free and no judgement .

I've lost almost a stone- just a few more stubborn pounds to go! Also lost a couple of inches from my waist.
That's in about three months so very steady but it is about slow changes not quick fix.

Yes, just a couple of eggs scrambled in a pan with lots of black pepper and no bread is another regular quick breakfast/lunch.

CocoPops Fri 31-Jan-25 17:28:37

Nannykin57 If you're not keen on meat and fish you could have chickpeas (curry with chickpeas, mushrooms, spinach for example) and red kidney beans, lentils, tofu, cottage cheese and eggs.

I am in shock. Just had a look at my new SW food optimising book and if I were 6’8ā€ I would be the perfect weight for my height.
I am only 5’1ā€ and sadly don’t have the time to grow another 1’ 7ā€. SW book says my weight should be 7 stones 8 lbs.
That’s never going to happen and I have set myself a hard enough goal to lose one stone.
Trying to remain positive.

Welcome NannyKim you have come to the right place for support and encouragement šŸ‘

NanKate Fri 31-Jan-25 21:54:19

silverlining48. Looking up what I should weigh for my height is far too low for me to attain so I do my own thing.

I am aiming for 10 stone I am ā€˜almost’ 5 foot 3 inches. It has taken my since last October to lose 10 pounds, very slow but steady.

Whiff and I count our calories. I keep to under 1,500 a day and often eat 1,250. Here is a photo of a book both Whiff and I use to make calorie counting easy. You could still go to your slimming club but count the calories via the book. It has worked for both of us.

NanKate Fri 31-Jan-25 21:55:16

Just looking for the book on my phone.

NanKate Fri 31-Jan-25 21:57:55

PS the book is ALL photos of food so no reading required. For example they show a small, medium and large banana.

Nannykim57 Fri 31-Jan-25 22:01:06

That’s gr8,Well done.Slow and steady is the answer

Nannykim57 Fri 31-Jan-25 22:02:10

Love all those foods except tofu! Thanks for the ideas.

Any lose is a win no matter how small I am glad if I only lose a quarter of a pound. As been said many times losing weight is a marathon not a sprint and NanKate's renaming dieting Eating less for life is the best way to view food. Pleased to say lost 2.75lbs this week. Been sticking to my 1200-1300 cals a day. And started having my yogurt again after my dinner. I enjoyed the opening of the yogurt pots in hospital. So I put my 200g portion into one of my little Easiyo pots and put the lid on. I weight it of a morning. Plus instead of doing my own fruit to go with it brought flavoured mixes as well as plain and make one of each and have 100g plain and 100g of flavoured and mixed the 2 together in the tub. I know it sounds mad but I enjoyed opening the pot after my dinner and using a teaspoon to eat it.

A trick many of us have found if you feel hungry have a drink as you may be thirsty not hungry . As the 2 feelings can get mixed up at times.

Since my holiday in York in September I brought myself beautiful teapot from the Polish pottery shop. And have a pot of tea with my breakfast even made myself a cosy for it but not one that goes over the spout and handles. Just base and sides and tied on top of the handle and spout I added wadding to keep the pot hot.

We all have our tricks which work for us but I love ready other people's tricks and cheats to help us achieve what we want . And it doesn't matter if we have a blip along the way . Each day is a new start . It's not giving up that's the key . Been at this now since 2017 and one day will get to 11st. But not setting myself a date .
Keep going pears . 🤸

keepingquiet Sun 02-Feb-25 12:37:42

Hi everyone

I lost 2lbs this week- so I am back on track for my target of another 3lbs.

Dont ask me how, but maybe I am eating less overall than I think. I haven't been sticking to my plan much because I need to do a big shop and I've been on a budget this week.

Who cares how it goes? It's gone and I'm happy with that for now...

Whiff Mon 03-Feb-25 06:46:00

keepingquiet well done as it takes eating 3,500 cals per week less than your body needs to function to lose a pound but everyone's metabolism is different so everyone has to find the amount of cals they need to eat to lose the weight. Mind you I think it takes less to put weight on well that's my theory.

I can't buy foods I have no control over . If it's not here I can't eat it even if I have a craving . That's why I do most of my grocery shopping on line and have it delivered and only do a top up shop for fresh veg.

Hope you have another good week .

keepingquiet Mon 03-Feb-25 07:59:43

Thanks Whiff- I hope you do too!

My plan isn't just about weight loss- it is also about eating healthy with the odd treat.

Today I will get the bus across the road to the local shops and buy some meat from the butcher. The greengrocers isn't so good as the supermarket but at least you only buy what you eat and use it the same day. I am lucky to have these shops close by and normally walk home as it's downhill, with views!

I had a walk yesterday too, so for me it is a combination of things all working together.

These last few pounds are really difficult to shift though- must try harder lol!

Thanks to you and everyone else here for keeping me going!

Shirleyw Tue 04-Feb-25 20:40:25
