Hope you get your mojo back soon cocopops
ā¦.forgot to askā¦do any of you practise balance? I go to Pilates and when we do some balance on one leg I have to hold on to keep balance, I am improving standing on one leg and moving foot around but need to hold on when rotating the whole leg to help hips if you get what I mean , not good at explaining it lol. I should really practise it at home.
My balance has "gone off" with age. I do Pilates online sometimes. I stand on one leg when cleaning my teeth, whilst waiting at the bus stop etc. Also do 50 squats a day eg a few each time when waiting for the kettle to boil. I never use the elevator and use the stairs instead.
My balance is shocking. š® I canāt manage more than 2 or 3 seconds. Thatās with my eyes open, itās even worse if I close them.
Just back from a lovely walk. Itās free and run by the council/ volunteers and is very popular. There were 30 of us today. Itās very sociable.Think most councils run them. There is also parkrun on Saturdays but walking is ok too of course. Also free.
I was about 50 when I began walking and so pleased I did. Itās never too late.
NanKate hope you enjoyed tai chi. I used to belong to U3A but it was rubbish . What finished it for me was looking forward to the Christmas songs turned out to be jazz. I walked out .I hate Jazz .2 of the talks where ok. The problem was it was run but old people who acted their age. Not for I am not growing old gracefully.
Last Mindfulness on Thursday but last week one of the group asked would we like to keep in touch and meet up for a cuppa. The 6 of us just clicked so have our what's app group. As out last group making my brownies but best eaten at home as they are very chocolatey especially after 30 secs on microwave .
Weight can disappear overnight silverlinings but it can appear . Our bodies are weird things . I have had cellulitis twice didn't realise the first was dangerous only contacted the GP when started to spread round my leg. At least the antibiotics worked.
CocoPops we all have our ups and downs but we never give up.
Much to my surprise lost 1.75 lbs this week .
It was cuppa and chat yesterday morning. There where whole hot sausage rolls feta and spinach rolls and tomato sauce and brown . Plus these delicious cakes . I had a bat one.
It was circuit training at sit fit
Singing and exercise class tomorrow.Had 2 new members in our move it or lose class this morning. Hopefully they will be back.
2lbs off this week Iām pleased to say, been a lot more in control also so going out for lunches helped lol.
Well done on the loss whiff. You go to singing whiff?ā¦how lovely, I would love to have a singing voice .
Have a good week allā¦
I tried U3A but found it rather dispiriting to be amongst very old people. At one coffee meet up I ended up looking after one lady and bringing her coffee as she was rather immobile.
Not that I mind doing a favour but it's not what I joined up for!
Gained weight, I can feel it. Back to it tomorrow.
Shirley well done with the 2 lbs . I am completely tuneless but I don't care as I have fun . Everytime I sing 4 lines solo . I can sing without stuttering or my words getting slurry . If my life was an opera it would great as I could just sing and then I wouldn't stutter ,slurry or can't get the words out. Learnt some sign language for a song we do ,we do it 6 times getting faster every time but I keep up. The teacher has a beautiful voice plays the guitar ,composes songs and did her degree in music and dance. We always do free style movement with floaty scarfs at the end . I wobble but love the freedom and it's fun .
StripeyGran I joined U3A when I first moved here but it was run by people who acted there age 70's & 80's. What finished it for me it was going to be Christmas songs turned out it was jazz so I walked out and never went back . I want to grow older disgracefully not prim and proper . š.
That's the great thing StripeyGran everyday is a new start. Lost half a pound this week so pleased with that .But I am going to have to be careful end of the month start of going out for lunch . Then 2 lunches plus a dinner planned before Christmas and friends coming new years eve for lunch . But they always take home leftovers so no temptation for me .
Have a good week fruits .
There is on iPlayer a drama called Riot Women watched 2 episodes last night it's not an easy watch as it's what I think called black comedy drama but even in those 2 episodes covered things that I can relate to . Great actors and music . Highly recommend you watch it .
Watched Murder at Evensong on my 5 needed a tissue for the end . From a book by Rev Richard Coles . Excellent actors and twists and turns .
Riot women is on bbc1 tonight . Episode 3 I think. It is well worth watching.
Silverlinings all episodes on iPlayer . I don't watch live TV as I can drop off or be to tired to watch to the end . So everything I watch is on free catch up . I don't pay for netflix etc.
Whiff. I need your low fat cheese sauce ( the gransnet search engine doesnāt work). My cholesterol appears to be Sky high and Iāve got to completely re think my diet ( and I thought I was eating quite well and have been enjoying my food more recently than Iāve ever done in my adult life
.
Hi Girls. I have got the dreaded Flu even though I had the jab. I have just stayed in bed or had an hour or two downstairs. If I hadnāt had the jab I think I would have been hospitalised ā¹ļø
I have no appetite and when I have the strength I will weigh myself. I do not recommend this way of losing weight.
My sleeping is all over the place. Sorry if I sound a misery but it has been truly awful.
Iām having a cuppa and a Rich Tea biscuit plus 2 paracetamol.
Iāll report back when I am back to my old self. š
Sorry to hear you've got the flipping 'Flu NanKate. Our news programme here says the vaccine is only about 30% effective this year. We have been warned that without the shot it's more than likely us older folk will land up in hospital. Keeping hydrated, paracetamol and plenty of rest is the way to go. Being miserable is allowed ! I hope you feel better soon.
Thanks Cocopops feel a bit better today. š
Urgh, proper flu is miserable. Yes go ahead and be miserable!
Its a funny old thing this ageing malarky. I didn't fit in with U3A singing Vera Lynn and worrying about a tea urn. Nor am I a riot woman in biker boots!
Just glad to be mobile really, lots of my contempories aren't.
Plodding on with SW. Managed to shift half a stone in 12 weeks.
I have had some success in retraining myself away from pastries and on to fruit.
Now to tackle the wine and crisps thing!
Oh nankate, sorry to read you have the flu, I hope you recover soon. Like cocopops said, keep hydrated and plenty of rest.
MayBee my cheese sauce 200ml of skimmed milk ( you may need to add more after cooking as it depends on age of flour and how thick you want it. ) 30g plain flour can use gluten free plain flour works just as well and 50g mature cheddar ( but you can use other hard cheese ) put all ingredients into a cold pan using a whisk put on high heat keep whisking until thick and cheese melted. Add more milk if it to thick. I don't add salt just bit of black pepper .
I but 400g block of cheese and cut into 8 and freeze in bags. I can't grate so once defrosted I just crush the cheese in the bag until small lumps .
NanKate flu is awful only had it once in my 30's . Good job you had your flu jab . Did give you some protection. But flu like covid mutates. The strains they injected us with may not be the mutation you had. š¹š¹
I know up here flu and covid are lasting at least 2 weeks . A neighbour one of her children and whole family had covid for 2 weeks and the adults only in their 30' S and the children young . If it's effecting the young this bad glad I paid for my covid jab as I didn't qualify for free one this year but did get my flu free.
I don't know if the weather this year has helped multiple the amount of germs we breath in. As both flu and covid are air bourne .
StripeyGran 7lbs off is great . You try lifting something's that weighs 7lbs it's difficult. Hope you are proud of yourself. I am being extra careful as I have 3 meals out booked main and pud would like the end the year the same weight as it was last year . So pounds to get off yet. Whatever happened to me in January reset my mind and lost my mojo for months hopefully I have it under control now . Went to my favourite cafe yesterday and had a hot chocolate but didn't have cake . They make their hot chocolate with a disc of real chocolate I always have plain no added bits .
CocoPops flu jab only 30% effective is shocking but at least it will give a bit of protection. Saw a programme a while ago about how they decided on which strains to use each year . Labs all over the whole test different strains then exchange information and decide which 4 strains go into the jab. Takes a year to do . So they are now working on jab for next year flu season.
Hope you can all stay well.
Thanks Whiff and All.
I think I am on the road to recovery. I canāt think of a symptom I havenāt had š¤Ŗ. Iām lucky I have a great husband who has looked after me very well. I just wonder how I would have coped on my own as so many Gransnet members have to.
One bonus Iāve lost a bit of weight, but I donāt recommend this method š
NanKate glad you are feeling better and your lovely husband has been looking after you . And as for coping our own you just do . If I need help I do ask for it . Infact decided I need a cleaner so will arrange to have one from a company and start in January. Depending on cost if it is weekly or fortnightly. I can't do things high up or low down plus can't trust myself to stand on my step stool anymore.
But when you are on your own you find way to do things but your way . I know I do . š
Finally got some motivation back and lost 1/2 lb. Still struggling with the evening munchies sometimes though. š© Battle on ladies.
The cold weather has signalled to my brain " you must hoover up all food"
