On 08 May 2018 I started this thread for those who wanted to lose weight and have a healthier lifestyle.

We now have a small band of ‘regulars’ called Pears and Apples. I am so grateful to those who have stayed loyal and contributed a lot of useful information and given support, especially Whiff 👍

Do join us, the rules are simple.

Choose your own style of diet plan.

Check in regularly with a report of the highs and lows of the diet.

Have an occasional binge but get back on the wagon ASAP.

Pass on any useful diet tips.

You have nothing to lose on this thread, other than weight.

Our mantra is - EAT LESS FOR LIFE.

Shirley you run off if you had a treat.
I exercise daily and do my static 500 pedals. Unfortunately this week had cake and biscuits 3 days plus a 3 course dinner so put on 2lb which while not pleased about it could have been worse especially as I made the cakes gingerbread and brownies . Can't resist my own baking .

At the dinner we had 3 quizzes I was in a team with a friend and we won a prize she had the cuddles squishy penguin and me the mug . I gave her first choice .

Can't remember all the questions but here is one for you .

No Googling . Which country invented French fries and what century? No cheating .

Will tell you the answer tomorrow .

I had fun all the the things I went to. Going to my daughter's Christmas day and 2 friends coming new years eve which means they will be here for 7-8 hours . We are chatterboxes .

Happy Christmas everyone .

Shirleyw Sun 21-Dec-25 15:51:38

Without googling I’d say the USA or Canada .

Whiff Sun 21-Dec-25 16:23:26

No. Belgium in late 17th century. Was a surprise to us all .

Shirleyw Mon 22-Dec-25 02:59:45

Oh wow, would never of guessed Belgium

Whiff Mon 22-Dec-25 06:03:57

I think we are all having a bit of a wobble foodwise this Christmas, we are only human.

Let’s enjoy ourselves and re-group after New Year.

Thanks for the laughs, friendship and advice.

Happy and healthy new year to you all

NanKate Thu 01-Jan-26 08:39:25

Happy New Year you lovely Pears and Apples.

The good news I only put on half a pound whilst away at my son’s for Christmas, however since returning home I have eaten extra food like Panettone, Xmas cake, a few chocolates etc etc. It’s so easy to fall back into bad eating habits. Today is my last day of indulgence.

Back on the wagon tomorrow. Onward and downward girls. 👋

Shirleyw Sun 04-Jan-26 02:48:33

I braved the scales…I put on 5lbs in 4 weeks 😮….i did expect it, sounds such a lot…back to healthy eating…I still kept up my 🏃🏻‍♀️‍➡️ though.

Whiff Sun 04-Jan-26 15:44:43

Shirley to many goodies around at Christmas and New year. But 2026 is a new start.

Consider what I have eat this week astounded only put quarter of a pound on . Only exercise I had was my usual 7 and my 500 on my static pedals. Back to normal this week. But got chat and cuppa in the morning so plenty of goodies but sit fit on the afternoon and move it or lose it Tuesday morning.

Had a sort out with my grandsons had 3 boxes of toys but they are older so down to one . Rest going to Roy Castle charity shop. They took all the books with them . As both enjoy reading . Gave them there granddads Stingray ,supercar ,Captain Scarlet annuals and a copy of Treasure island from 1956 which must have been his sister's . The colour illustrations are still brightly coloured. But I have always kept them safe.

Have a good week fruits and wrap up warm it's going to be a cold week..🤸🥶

Shirleyw Mon 05-Jan-26 21:22:09

Quarter of a pound on Christmas week is amazing whiff well done.
How lovely your grandsons having their grandads sting ray car and captain scarlet annuals, I used to like those programmes…
I still have my old beryl the peril annuals and the topper… lol…love them.

MayBee70 Thu 08-Jan-26 00:26:54

As usual I didn’t overeat at Christmas but have been eating more than usual afterwards. It happens every January. Also my new cholesterol lowering diet is no longer working, weight wise. I’m going to make more banana bread and go back to nighttime fasting and having banana bread to break the fast. I’m not looking forward to the chia pudding type meals I’ve been breaking my fast with. My knee has also been particularly sore so I haven’t been getting much exercise and I just want to sleep for England! I hate the cold weather, too! Need to get my mojo back.

NanKate Thu 08-Jan-26 08:37:59

MayBe70 it tough getting back on track after the ‘extras’ we all have had at Christmas. I’m about to get on the scales and I know the way they will be going ☹️

The good news is that our small clan of Pears and Apples get back on the wagon and realise that getting slimmer is our goal.

Best of luck folks.

Whiff Mon 12-Jan-26 06:06:32

Shirley I remember Beryl the peril but not Topper.

MayBee having your banana bread worked for you so going back to it is a good idea . You will get your mojo back .

Lost half a pound this week . Which is better than putting on .

Finally after a year since I came out of hospital feeling tired 8-9 pm and not still wide awake at midnight. Just hope my speech and my arms go back to normal. On list for speech therapy last 3 months so don't hold out any hope for having appointment soon . But seeing my neurologist in March hoping he can help with my arms. Still haven't got the strength back no matter how much I exercise them so annoying 🤬.

NanKate this merry band is here for the long haul none of us are quitters or into short cuts .

Anyway have a good week pears and other fruits .

Shirleyw Wed 14-Jan-26 03:54:16

Well done on the half pound loss whiff. I lost 4lbs of what I put on over Christmas……
I bought a walking pad before Christmas , just for on the days I don’t go running if pouring with rain….it folds and goes nicely under the settee….the draw back it’s heavier than I thought, a bind to pull it out , we do have room in the conservatory to keep it out all the time but I don’t want it stuck there …I suppose it’s good toning pulling it out each time 😂. 💪

Bit milder this week but more wet, nice not to have the heating on all day.
Have a good week all…
