Just wondering if I should buy one of these monitors for helping me to lose a bit of weight. Or would it be a waste of money and just stuck in the drawer?

Unless your diabetic don't waste your money.
Read the pears thread we all have our own way to lose weight. Might give you some ideas and help. It's a fun thread.

Unless you are diabetic it won't tell you much. Blood sugars should stay within normal ranges regardless of what you eat unless you are diabetic.
Try the Nutracheck app much better use of money it is full of useful information when you input the foods you eat.

Rosie is correct. If you are not diabetic your pancreas will produce insulin to regulate your blood sugar. Don't waste your money.

Whiff - what is the pears thread, please?

Are you talking about "eating to the meter"? It can be quite useful to see what foods raise your blood sugars quickly because even non diabetics get that and because the body reacts to a rush of insulin to lower them, you feel hungry quicker. However, I think if you just follow the rules for a low GI diet, you'll only be eating foods that won't spike your blood sugars anyway so you don't need to test your bloods. If you are pre-diabetic, it can be really helpful because whilst porridge oats are considered to be good, my blood sugars shoot up when I eat them.

I’ve recently started the Slim Pod programme to lose weight and so far I am very impressed.
It’s not a diet, no calorie counting, syns or restrictions. It’s a whole new way of healthy eating with no food off limit.
It’s online, has a free trial time then the total programme only costs £99 in total, no extras. You can stop easily after the trial if you want to.

Only need blood sugar monitor if you are diabetic. Don't waste your money it does not assist weight loss

Well ' said ' Mojack. We have a young GC we with type 1 diabetes - it is a matter of life or death they keep track of blood sugar levels - definitely needs the equipment to facilitate that. People who are trying to loose weight do not need one !!

What sort of tools does it use apart from hypnosis. I have tried hypnosis before and it really hasn't worked for me before.

BellaT2 the pears thread real title is I'm a Pear/Apple part 5 Still going . It was started by NanKate and it's for any wanting to lose weight or maintaining weight or anybody really . It's not a doom and gloom thread but fun. We talk about anything, well know I do.

You don't have to say your weight or anything like that . We are all sizes and ages. But we are all trying to lose weight. Each has their own way of doing it .

NanKate changed dieting to eating less for life which is a better way to look at it.

I was a yo yo dieter from my teens . Once I married my weight balloon but my darling husband love me no matter what size I was. I married a man who at his heaviest was only 11st 7lb he was usually 11st. And that weight when he died.

At my heaviest after having the children and stuck between 18-19st. After my husband died in 2004 my weight was over 19st and size 32. I had family to look after children left home 2 years after their dad died . It's what I wanted they had their own lives to live. But I had been looking after my parents and mother in law since my husband died.

It wasn't until 2017 my mom was last to die. Then I got jaundice caused by 2 tablets I had been taking since 1992 to help with my neurological condition. Seriously ill for 5 months and my gastrologist told me on discharge from his care people normally die with my bilirubin levels. It was the wake up call I needed ,my life had to change .

Of all the things I could want out of life it was only 3 things move house, lost weight ,get fit. Took me 5 years and lost 7st now a size 16. Last 3 years trying to lose the last stone . Will never be slim to much baggy saggy skin. But I don't care .

Moved to my bungalow in 2019 and started to go to exercise class in 2018.

Sorry I do ramble on . But have a read of the thread and you we see it's a friendly site .

Well done, Whiff. Weight loss is so hard to achieve in the first place and so difficult to keep off.
I have always been a yo-yo dieter and would binge eat whenever I was "off" my diet. Binge eating made me feel awful so then I would eat because I felt so stupid having succumbed. However, I have just been prescribed ADHD meds after a recent diagnosis and the first thing I noticed was I no longer have the urge to binge when things go slightly astray. It is as if a switch has been thrown in my brain. I am really hoping it is a long term thing. I will still stay on the basic SW plan because it is low sugar/low fat and as a diabetic that is what I need. I don't do the "as much as you eat bit," I just eat sensible portions. I am never going to be really slim because I have a tummy which has long since outgrown me. but I hope to be healthier.

icanhandthemback I am not diabetic but NanKate recommended this book Carb& Calorie Counter by Chris Cheyette & Yello Balolia it's supported by Diabetes UK. Had it off Amazon think it was £14.99. it's brilliant and shows pictures of foods in different portions but has all cal, carb ,etc values plus written quantities. Will take a picture .

Book wouldn't stay open hence the statue .
