Any ideas on how to increase fibre in one's meals .without sacrificing taste?

Well if you make things like a fruit crumble, you can top them with oats or crush malted shreddies in with the flour mix. That adds to the taste not detracts from it.

I just typed 'Fibre cookbook' into google and it brought up lots of different books on how to add fibre in tasty ways, perhaps you could browse those ?

Good idea, thanks. I been putting Weetabix in soup, Must get some Shreddies for that, as I understand it has more fibre than Weetabix

I use wholewheat pasta and brown rice, add a few beans or lentils to meals whenever I can and have quinoa with my salads. If I’m eating out and won’t get enough fibre I take psyllium husk in orange squash. It’s also important to make sure you drink plenty or the extra fibre will just make things worse. Ramp it up gradually so your system can adjust.

Great advice. I have been wondering about just that question of matching increased fibre with increased fluid

If you are not used to eating a high fibre diet. Make the changes gradually to let your gut get used to the changes

Overnight oats with 10% greek yoghurt, full fat milk, chicken seeds, flaxseed, a handful of mixed seeds, fruit of some kind and berries. A good high fibre start to the day.
A home made vegetable soup with added lentil and beans for lunch
A rainbow salad with a protein of some kind later on ( fish, chicken, eggs)
That's pretty much my normal day and suits me well.
I am active, sleep well and very energetic

They keep mentioning on instagram how we seem to forget how much fibre is in good old frozen peas. With people eating newer veggies like kale we forget that peas are good for us too. Also children that can be picky about eating vegetables will usually eat peas. I’m going to start adding chickpeas to soup because I still haven’t worked out how to use them.

Just noticed that M&S "Special K look-alike" cereal is quite high fibre.
Read the ingredients yesterday.
Was quite surprised as I believe the original Special K wasn't made with wholegrains (from memory).

I’ve had IBS for as long as I can remember. But I’ve found that, by introducing fibre to my diet gradually and eg soaking lentils before cooking I can now tolerate eating quite a lot of it. Probably because my food has a much faster transit time through my intestines. I’ve just read about something else called basil seeds that are protein and fibre. And have read that we need to eat our meals in a sequence staring with veggies before moving onto protein and carbohydrates. I also read that you should also start a meal with a bit of lettuce. I guess the plant sterols I now take with meals have the same effect.
