Hi my son 12 wears cheap shoe zone plimsolls as school shoes he has been wearing them since the start of the year but Resently my mum told me he looks scruffy in them it's a bit true there not in good condition but is she being unreasonable

Does not wearing shoes "encourage" flat footedness? I doubt it. So why would flat shoes?

Liza80 Tue 03-Feb-15 19:29:18

Yeah they are lace up ones

Liza80 Tue 03-Feb-15 19:31:01

Yeah there lyase up ones

Mishap Tue 03-Feb-15 19:31:32

I am not sure that their feet need support - in the wild we would have gone barefoot and feet are designed for that. I agree that shoes which need to be kept on by screwing up the toes are bad. If the plimsolls fit and are properly secured I cannot see the problem, except if it is pouring with rain - but wet feet are not the end of the world.

Oops - slipped up there Liza! grin

His feet will; be fine in them. But they're not going to be waterproof are they? That's a bit worrying. Perhaps you could manage a second pair, so if one pair gets wet on the way to school he could into the other ones.

I suppose I always wore good 'sensible' leather shoes (except when I was a teenager of course) and my feet are flat as pancakes and terrible (hereditary).

So it probably doesn't matter then - I thought they were those things they wear for PE with no support - if they are the type of lace-up canvas shoes/boots my DD used to favour then I should think they are OK if he has good feet anyway.
DD wore converse ones (not for school though), and Vans are quite expensive - where did you find them for a fiver?

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 03-Feb-15 19:34:17

I meant - he could change into the other pair. sorry about typing.

Ana Tue 03-Feb-15 19:34:51

hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 03-Feb-15 19:37:13

they are probably these Rosequartze.

rosequartz Tue 03-Feb-15 19:44:08

Ok if it doesn't rain a lot - or snow - or you suffer from cheesy feet hmm

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 03-Feb-15 19:46:45

I am sorry I totally cocked up your name there rosequartz

Ana Tue 03-Feb-15 19:51:34

I think you should buy a job lot of cheapo plimsolls from ebay for your son and your daughter, Liza. Why should she get the Vans and not him?

rosequartz Tue 03-Feb-15 19:56:07

That's OK, I am used to people cocking up my real name grin

Oh, I didn't read it properly, she gets Vans and he gets cheapies!!

That is so unfair

annodomini Tue 03-Feb-15 20:44:28

Any secondary schools I have known have forbidden plimsolls as school shoes and insisted on leather ones. These do not have to be as expensive as Clarks or Start Rite as there are many cut price shoe stores that stock cheaper versions. Sorry, but I do think that plimsolls look scruffy.

Riverwalk Tue 03-Feb-15 20:48:27

There's no anatomical reason why children should wear leather shoes.

Penstemmon Tue 03-Feb-15 20:49:44

My concern is only about the lad's warmth and not getting wet feet as plimsolls won't keep him warm and dry but at 12 he is old enough to know.
If he is choosing , and is allowed, to wear the plimsolls at school well his lookout! If he would prefer more waterproof/warm shoes then I would be inclined to get him some!

Ana Tue 03-Feb-15 20:54:40

I think the OP was a wind-up, there are many clues.

Carry on giving advice if you want to, but I'm sure Liza has got the responses she/he wanted from us already! grin

Liza80 Tue 03-Feb-15 21:10:49

Yeah but he doesn't mind I think

Liza80 Tue 03-Feb-15 21:33:28

Next time should i make my daughter wear shoe zone ones asewll instead of vans ?

Soutra Tue 03-Feb-15 21:40:39

Ana will know that we rarely agree grin but I am with her 100% on this!
Tick, tock!

Juliette Tue 03-Feb-15 21:56:04

Get them both a pair of wellies, so cool they're cold. smile

Liza80 Tue 03-Feb-15 22:29:30

Corse I'm real I don't think wellies would fit the uniform policy far from it

Liza80 Tue 03-Feb-15 22:38:46

I've decided to let him even tho they look scruffy but u think it looks cool my mum won't like it but I'm not prepared to make him wear proper school shoes again he had to most of his time at primary school

Liza80 Tue 03-Feb-15 22:50:06

Would u agree ?
