I'll take your word for that Galen hmm as you appear to be the expert on Friars....

Anya Wed 04-Feb-15 14:57:11

It was explained to us in a botany lesson using tulips, pollen, stamens and the stigma, style and ovary. At the end Sister Francis of the Passion (known vulgarly affectionately as Passionate Fanny) muttered something about it being 'almost the same' in animals.

Confused us all no end!

Galen Wed 04-Feb-15 14:56:50

The Friary was worse than the convent.hmm

aggie Wed 04-Feb-15 14:49:34

Another Convent girl here .......... oh the horror and disbelief when it dawned that what rabbits did was errrrrrrrrr mmmmmmmmmmmmm

grin x

The passwords in future cases of doubt will be Titus and Loopy Rabbits.

Well Liza I hope you had a good laugh with all this.

As long as you know that we're not a bunch of old fools on GN but we do have to take new posters at face value. If a young mum, or any new poster, asks for advice/opinions then anyone who thinks they can help will respond, particularly if it seems the OP is hard-up.

A 12-year old in flimsy footwear in this weather - yep we had to respond!

I'm sure any future new poster won't suffer as a result of your bit of fun.

That's priceless Anya!
When in Biology class on reproduction (the only time there was the remotest suggestion about sex), the rather elderly nun asked if we'd prefer to learn about rabbits or humans. I said humans and was sent to the terrifying Headmistress to 'explain myself'; the rest of the class did rabbits......
I left school utterly confused about just everything! Real eye opener when began nursing.......

Anya Wed 04-Feb-15 13:55:23

It was suggested I'd be happier at another school after bringing up the paternity of Lucretia and Cesare Borgia in a history lesson grin

loopylou Wed 04-Feb-15 13:50:22

Ann Widdecombe was my first year prefect hmm
Subconsciously have forgotten every word I ever laboriously learnt, and never read any since [shudder]
One prefect still sticks in my mind, sadistic female, I'd learn one blinking speech and she'd say it was the wrong one and tell me to learn another. In retrospect was bullying, and as was bullied by one girl for first 5 years of senior school the time at the convent still gives me the collywobbles......

Anya Wed 04-Feb-15 13:46:31

Fortuitously !!! Luckily I didn't add a colon!

Anya Wed 04-Feb-15 13:44:49

That's the one Galen

Was going to ask why sex wasn't mentioned on a Friday ..but rather tortuously I took a second look as it did seem an odd comment.

Anya Wed 04-Feb-15 13:42:07

Loppy you must have gone to the same Convent school as I!!! That was our punishment too. Consequently I know vast tracks of The Bard by heart (was a very rebellious pupil) grin

Galen Wed 04-Feb-15 13:33:55

Is that the play where Lavinia is raped and has her tongue cut out and her hands cut off so that she can't tell who did it? Or am I confused? ( not unusual if so. Sex etc was never mentioned at the Convent or the Friary)

^Hail, Rome, victorious in thy mourning weeds!
Lo, as the bark, that hath discharged her fraught,
Returns with precious jading to the bay
From whence at first she weigh'd her anchorage,
Cometh Andronicus, bound with laurel boughs,
To re-salute his country with his tears,
Tears of true joy for his return to Rome.^

Might manage to learn first 2 lines by teatime.........grin

So as to get us posting replies, of course loopy. Why else?

Could we apply the same intelligent responses as the last few on here to ALL timewasting enquiries which are only posted to get us steamed up? I have noticed quite a few where the only wish of the OP seems to be to see how many people take the trouble to think about their "problems" and offer them solutions and support - which is then rejected for all kinds of flimsy reasons, until someone loses patience and posts something a bit tart. Then they are accused of being cruel and abusive and the poster starts weeping into the keyboard about how hurt they are at how they have been treated.

By the way, there is no guarantee that ANYTHING that ANYONE posts anonymously on here or anywhere else on the net is actually true.

On the way out? Noooooo! It's actually an integral design feature to allow for an automatic foot wash to prevent cheesy feet smell. All plimsolls have them you know. grin

loopylou Wed 04-Feb-15 12:56:46

Sorry Anyait just seems to me to be such a peculiar question to ask!
And your post and mine crossed.......

Will duly await arresting by the Posting Police, a stay in Pendants corner - which will be very lengthy as memory like a sieve so goodness knows how long I'll take to memorise the chosen text...

Horrible memories of spends endless lunchtime having to memorise long tracts of Shakespeare as a punishment for taking in the corridors at convent school....put me of WS for life sad
sad!

Anya Wed 04-Feb-15 12:48:55

LOOPY!!

loopylou Wed 04-Feb-15 12:45:50

Anya Wed 04-Feb-15 12:45:10

This thread is now officially concluded having won the prize for The Most Fatuous and Boring Thread of 2015. However I concede the year is still young and this title may yet be usurped before too long.

Anyone continuing posting will be arrested by the Posting Police and sent to Pedants' Corner and will not be released until they have memorised the opening scene of Titus Andronicus wink

Anya Wed 04-Feb-15 12:40:18
