My step GD who I posted about some 2 years ago when she was very troubled and we were despairing over getting some help has spent the last 2 years in a PRU.
She got her GCSE results this morning? 9 passes a to c
Including 2 A* three As and the lowest a C in maths which she knew was her weakest point.
We are so grateful for the help she eventually got and yah boo sucks to the bullies and the staff at her previous school.

What an uplifting update Ann, thanks so much .

So good to hear Annsixty. One size doesn't fit all and PRU'S can be brilliant in bringing the best out of kids when they need it. I used to refer kids there from my secondary school. Sadly not enough spaces in PRU'S so many who could be helped don't get a chance. But there's something special about your GD to accept the support she was given..and she shined. Lovely to hear.

I am still the same OP with a name change as I got locked out and am delighted to say that A is in the last stage of a PhD in Marine Biology.
She was recently granted a six month extension due to a serious illness last year.
She achieved a 1st in her degree course and has worked tirelessly for the last several years.
She is a very serious girl and is devoted to conservation particularly of the waters around Great Britain.

I know the feeling.
My granddaughter was expelled from her last high school.
Fortunately the deputy head knew she had a good brain so spoke for her at one of the top schools in Essex.
She was on 3 months probation and then accepted.
Three years on she is now a prefect.

Wondering now what we were ALL doing? 🤔

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Thu 19-Mar-26 20:33:48

Before cancer too 😢

Set me off wondering ‘what were we doing in August 2017?’
Happier times.
Himself didn’t have cancer
And our L’il Miss was only a babe in arms (she’s halfway through junior school now).

This 🔼 was the person who resurrected this thread - obviously for nefarious reasons as the post got deleted!

Someone looking for an thread to hook ‘something’ on perhaps or just being a bluddy pest.

Thanks Rosie51 we need all the good news we can get!

Rosie51 Thu 19-Mar-26 10:24:43

As you should be grannyqueenie, well done to her. It's lovely to hear when youngsters have overcome adversity and turned it right around!

Usedtobeblonde Thu 19-Mar-26 10:24:22

Thank you all for your very kind replies.
It is real proof that things can and do change and for anyone else going through similar I wish you all and your young ones well.

grannyqueenie Thu 19-Mar-26 10:12:21

Absolutely rosie51! A good news story like this one is always good to hear. So pleased to hear that your lovely girl has done so well Usedtobeblonde, I remember you as Ann!
My own oldest granddaughter was a very troubled teen indeed and became quite ill. She overcame lots of obstacles, now has graduated and works in a demanding job supporting vulnerable adults. I too am a very proud granny!

That's really inspiring Ann.
I'm so glad the PRU worked out for her & hope she does really well at her 6th form college too.

I do wish people would check the date on any “new” (to them) thread.
This one is 9 years old!

But isn't it nice that Usedtobeblonde could update everyone on how well her granddaughter is doing? Without the resurrection of the thread nobody would know. Congratulations to her!

Great to hear this. The family must be so proud of her sunshine

Sometimes an old thread being restarted is such a good thing!
What wonderful news on your granddaughter's achievements annsixty/ Usedtobeblonde 😊

Brilliant result UsedtobeBlonde. Well done to your DGD.
Mainstream education is not the answer for everyone.

I hope she is recovering well from her illness.

I expect annsixty's DGD is working now as she must be 24 by now.

However, it is heartening to read this as there must be many pupils who are struggling after the Covid lockdowns, the increase in bullying in school etc.

A wonderful success story. You must be very proud.
