I believe that it`s up to parents to teach their children sex education,that`s what i did.

Given that children at that age will have access to the internet and all that involves, maybe the focus should be on informed consent and how to resist pressure from others to take part in potentially risky behaviour?

Responsible parents will not allow 9 year olds unlimited and uncensored access to the internet.

I'd have done the same thing if my 9 year old was being subjected to this so called 'sex education'.

What on earth could possibly be wrong with teaching children about their own actual bodies a 9 year old girl seeing being 'taught' about ejaculation and erections, isn't being 'taught' about her own actual body is she.

I sincerely hope they are not teaching young children about anal sex. I find it hard to believe they would do that anywhere in the world, even London.

There are people who have ulterior motives who are pushing this agenda.
It is happening in Australia too

There is nothing wrong with teaching children about their bodies and about sex but some things should be introduced gradually and it is how they are introduced and by whom that is of importance.

Did people have the same attitude towards the DM when they fought to get the murdering scum in prison for killing Steven Laurence ?

It needs to be age appropriate and I can't believe anyone would believe that some of the content here would be appropriate for 9 year old's.

We have to remember that children reach puberty earlier in this day and age due to the increased weights and being well fed. However, I do think there are limits but wet dreams don't appear to be them! As children are taught about together at this age, they will learn about ejaculation and erections. Knowing that this is a sexual thing will enable them also to be wise about abusive males. Let's face it, little boys have erections from a very young age and surely they should know what is happening to their body by the time they are 9. My son found rubbing it against his nappy was very nice so by the age of 9 was extraordinarily aware of increased sensation. He was always reassured it was not a bad thing, there was just a time and a place!

Unfortunately, as we all know, not all parents are responsible. Many are quite content to let their kids sit on their phones as long as it means they are getting peace.

That's why educators need to show a sense of responsibility.

Before we accuse teachers of being responsible for the behaviour of teenagers we must remember that they did not draw up the curriculum and are duty bound to teach it, whatever their personal view might be.

Why are people gullible in this case? I am well aware that all the press can be guilty of publicising stories using sources or insiders.

However this story is straight from the horse's mouth. Have you read the article? Seen the correspondence? That's not fake.

He objected to his daughter being shown a BBC Bitesize video showing a boy having a wet dream, getting an erection and ejaculating.

After Mr Doherty complained to the BBC, the video was removed from their website.

Do 9 year olds really need to watch this? Isn't this the type of stuff parents are worried about their children seeing online?

Obviously the BBC has decided this video wasn't acceptable and has been removed.

The right place to take it up is with the school governors/parents and the LEA.

I am SO fed up with teachers being blamed. It's all out there on social media and a good teacher will teach in order to give children the choice to say "NO!" and especially girls not to give into pressure.

I too expect a fuller story to emerge.

That used to be the case.

No paddyann, being a Christian doesn't mean that your children shouldn't have sex education. This is a C of E Academy which maybe why this father sent his D there.

The school's ethos is "In God's hands we are truthful, we persevere and we aspire that all that you do be done in love". The school is described as a friendly village school with a strong Christian ethos, with an Ofsted rating of good.

I can't imagine why any school would consider this content suitable for children aged 9.

IMO it's a good thing this father went to the media about this. I wonder how many parents aren't aware of what their children are being taught in these lessons.

Children should not be focusing their minds on all this sexual content, in many cases things they do not need to know until they are 16 and of legal age to have sex. Nine year olds shouldn't be walking around thinking about sexual activity. They are going to think this is something they can do with each other. Things that would never have entered their heads if they weren't being shown what to do.

I wouldn’t do what this father has done - gone to the papers. However someone in my family has withdrawn their 8yo child from these classes because of distress at what they were being told. The parents asked to see the materials being taught and it was handed over immediately. They decided it was inappropriate for their child just now and withdrew them from class.

There was no pushback at all from the school and indeed they got the impression that the head agreed that they were doing the right thing for their child.
