What are you doing for self care today?

I've been taking my medication on time. Seems simple but it's hard to remember to take care of myself sometimes.

I also ordered myself an electric blanket today. I struggle to get off to sleep at night with aches and pains and restless legs. A friend lent me one to try out. This is life changing!

Well done Madgran. I spent hours cleaning our basement living room which included polishing a large display cabinet with mirror backs, glass side, glass shelves and glass doors.

I'm nor sure if that constitutes self care either but it was very satisfying.

Now I'm enjoying a wine which is most definitely self caregrin

Tidy house = tidy mind

Done a load of "admin" today. Not sure if that is "self care" but it is very satisfying!

Today is relax all the way with a sunshine stroll and a little shopping thrown in for good measure. Feel good just anticipating it.

I don’t do ironing. I eliminated it from my life many years ago. Someone did once point out that my ex (note the word ex) often looked a bit crumpled though. I sometimes iron pillow cases though to make it look as though I’ve ironed the whole bed if they’ve crumpled*themselves after washing
*how very dare they grrrr

VioletSky Sun 12-Sept-21 17:06:21

I have been setting a routine for myself in the week to make Sundays a bit more bearable. I have my AC at home at the moment and school age children and all the ironing has me swamped so I've been breaking it up and doing it several times a week.

I think Graves and the treatment has done so much damage. My joints are very painful and I stutter now. Its hard to know what will improve and what won't. So getting behind is not an option anymore. So for self care I'm just making sure I don't let molehills become mountains.

Yes Mad, I see you did the same yesterday. For me, a chat with friends is one of the best mood lifts. If possible in real life, but phone/whatsapp still is good.

A group of us met all through lockdown winter every month or so. We found a little obliging cafe that had made an outdoor covered space with some gas heaters. We all wore thermals, winter coats etc and took cushions, one even brought hot water bottle. Mad but it got us through.

seacliff spending time chatting to friends is really nice isn't it! And Dunwich Cliffs - Lovely area!

seacliff Sat 11-Sept-21 18:16:45

I met a friend on the common near me for a picnic - we had a good old catch up and a stroll. After I went along to Dunwich cliffs and admired the sea, stunning heather and sunshine. Makes you feel good.

PS Service of remembrance ..comforting for many, I expect, Smileless

The art trail was nice, though I spent most of my time chatting to my friend who does the most amazing watercolours! Not as busy as usual but that is not surprising, probably pick up a bit tomorrow. Came home and had acup of tea in the garden sunshine. Nice day really.

Hard benches ...know that one...became a bit of an expert on hard park benches during lockdown as did many of us I suspect! ?

It's so nice having this September sunshine and it stayed, no rain! After a couple of hours on a hard bench I'm making use of the electric blanket again though. It helps so much. I just don't feel comfortable having it on all night and wish there was a timer

A walk in the sunshine ? with the dig followed by a slice of fruit cake.
Then a little later I am writing to my friend

Smileless2012 Sat 11-Sept-21 13:42:57

That sounds lovely Madgran. Our church held a service of thanks giving and remembrance for all who have worked tirelessly and selflessly during the pandemic, and for those we've lost.

It was lovelysmile.

I had a lovely time with my old school friend yesterday. We met at 12.00 and finally left Zizzi's at 4.00 ... a nice lunch and then endless cups of tea and talking non stop! The rain stopped us doing our planned wander round the Park, but no less fun.

During lock down I met a friend in the park, the heavens opened so we sheltered under a tree ...not sure what made us wetter, the rain or the dripping leaves!! ? Off to visit the local art trail this afternoon...I usually take part but giving it a miss this year

VioletSky Sat 11-Sept-21 11:01:02

I'd planned a meet up with a friend in the park today (we are still being careful where we can). It looks like rain but we are doing it anyway. We will find a bench under a tree somewhere.

Hi Smileless2012 Yes, a nice little treat of some sort. smile
Maybe a new top for winter...
I've been googling sofas (I've wanted a new one for ages) but they are terribly expensive. I also need a new laptop or tablet.
Decisions decisions!

Smileless2012 Fri 10-Sept-21 11:00:49

Whatever takes your fancy henetha; treat yourselfsmile.

Isn't music great especially when it's something you haven't played for a while. Just jigging around while I do the housework to Bowie's 'Young Americans'. Love that saxophone.

Not sure Mr. S. was enjoying it as he's just gone out for a bike ride. Too loud possibly!

VioletSky Fri 10-Sept-21 10:54:39

Start one Maybee, I'm a cat person and wouldn't type "doggy" anyway I don't think!

Soggy mass... Strange autocorrect

We should have a thread all about strange auto corrects. I mean, where do they come from sometimes confused?

henetha Fri 10-Sept-21 10:28:11

My neighbour is coming in for coffee. I'm celebrating receiving a full refund from my cancelled holiday. What shall I spend the money on?

VioletSky Fri 10-Sept-21 10:23:21

Soggy mass... Strange autocorrect

VioletSky Fri 10-Sept-21 10:22:48

My son bought me one of my favourite treats so I'm enjoying that in the bath.

Neither of us realised its not a bath bomb though so it took a while pushing the doggy mass around before I realised you are supposed to break off a bit and crumble it in.

Should be able to get a few nice soaks out of it still, not sure how to store it though now it's just a big wet lump!

Kim19 Fri 10-Sept-21 09:07:10

Today I arrived in London after 21 months of no travel. I was inexplicably nervous at the prospect but so far so good. I'm settled into my accommodation and just about to hit the South Bank for an amble
and to refresh my memory on what's currently still available of my old haunts and see what's new. Feel good factor abounds at present.

Smileless2012 Fri 10-Sept-21 09:00:32

"supposedly doing something healthy just be sleeping" I hadn't thought of it like that MayBeesmile I'll have a re think.
