What are you doing for self care today?

I've been taking my medication on time. Seems simple but it's hard to remember to take care of myself sometimes.

I also ordered myself an electric blanket today. I struggle to get off to sleep at night with aches and pains and restless legs. A friend lent me one to try out. This is life changing!

VioletSky I like your the title of your post and I'm so pleased you have done something, two things really, to care for yourself today. I hope your electric blanket brings you comfort and helps you sleep when it arrives.

I'm not doing much self care today as I don't feel I need it just now but I am a big advocate of Self Care.

I do understand how hard it can be for people to remember to care for themselves even in little ways.

Sometimes there just isn't enough time or energy to even think about ways to give self care so thank you for this post, I hope it helps anyone who needs a little nudge.

allsortsofbags I had all these grand ideas about what self care was and it seemed really unachievable.

Then someone explained to me that self care isn't big grand things, it's little things like taking the time to have a cup of tea in the sunshine or smiling at yourself in the mirror.

You still have time!

VioletSky spot on! What a brilliant post! Thank you flowers

"taking the time to have a cup of tea in the sunshine or smiling at yourself in the mirror"

sounds like the beginnings of a poem ?,

Looking at myself in the mirror is scary ? these days but - Good question ?

Running around after very pregnant daughter & problematic mother.

So - with Covid - very little apart from my retirement job & my Gardening group.
(Think I've just 'Outed' myself) ?

A nice glaas of Red?

I'll be back with a better response.
(Must try harder)!

Went to the newly reopened library and borrowed books rather than reading on my iPad. Accepting an invitation for today to a family gathering.

When I get back in from church I'm going to spend the whole day crocheting, which I love.

And I've "invented" a low-sugar way of chocolatizing frozen fruit, which is going to be my Sunday food treat today.

Taking my medication first thing in the morning then later in the day I go for an hourly walk, usually the long way round to the shops and back. Stretching and Pilate classes are starting up again, so today I shall sign up for those.

I have two electric blankets, lovely presents, one an under blanket for the bed and the other to have on my knees when sitting. I wouldn’t want to be without either when chilly times are here.
Have a nice day.

Quite often, it's the little things that get us through isn't it? Without going into too much detail I am having a tough time at the moment, I know it's only temporary and I can see the light at the end of a long tunnel.
Practical things are an absolute blessing in life and different things help each one of us in different ways....it's what suits individual needs I guess.
On the other hand, sitting in the sunshine with a cuppa as I did yesterday would have felt decades away only last week.......but I managed it and it was wonderful.......lifted my spirits no end.
I was really inspired by your comment Ailidh and strawberries have now gone on the shopping list
We all face struggles in some way or another when we're feeling at a low ebb or physically unwell, perhaps this thread would be a support forum to share ideas to help each other through?
I know the previous comments have helped me already. Stay safe everyone ??

My self care is that i am going to do the exercises the physio has given me. They are very boring to do but i must, to help strengthen the muscles around my hip joint.
I have no idea when i will get my hip replacement operation.......Covid back log. Talking to a couple of other people while waiting to see physio they both agreed the wait will be long and physio and cortisone injections seem to be the route that is being used at present.

VioletSky I hope your electric blanket works for you. And you can add a little extra self care in to your days.
Mine this weekend is the dry feet! They were so painful on Friday - totally neglected all summer so it's a big project. I left peel bags on overnight and today I am going to make the effort to keep rubbing cream in.
Ambitions to perform deforestation on the legs at some point this week. I hope I can make the effort and not just slump on the setter after work.
Hope everyone else gets chance to practice some self care too.

Ailidh…….fancy sharing your plan?

Blossoming Sun 05-Sept-21 09:54:04

Spending some time outside in the sunshine.

Elless Sun 05-Sept-21 09:58:08

I've had trouble with my arm for months, I self referred to muskuloskeletal and got an appointment which was ages away so I googled physio exercises and did them religiously and it helped my arm at least 80%, had my physio appointment on Friday and the physio said for once google had helped and I had done the right exercises and just to continue smile

The chocolatized fruit:

Melt 30g coconut oil until it's just turning, not hot hot
Stir in 2 tsp granulated stevia
And 15g cocoa powder

Mix well then pour over 100g frozen fruit, I've done it with blueberries and today with summer fruits.
Stir like mad, because it hardens pretty instantly.
Eat while fruit is still frozen - by this stage it's no longer bullet like but tastes like eating a chocolate, frozen dessert.
Sundays only! (For me ??)
Ps, about 80g frozen fruit for one. I've got 100g today because that's all that you as left in the bag: they're not all coated but that adds to the serendipity.

This has really cheered me up today!

I made myself a play list which I've been meaning to do for a while and put some music on to tidy up which really made it less of a chore!

I think given the age that most of us are, we really need to do at least one thing a day to be self indulgent. In the scheme of things we haven’t got decades left, and must never regret stuff we haven’t done.

Today I have indulged in a forest walk and then lemon drizzle cake and coffee.

Tomorrow - give my body a break and eat sensibly?

2 days ago I ordered myself 2 nice dresses, they both have pockets. It's been a long time since I bought any clothes.

Yesterday I ordered a new hoover. The last one was impossible to use and I was glad when it went kaput. I don't know if this is just me but a new hoover is exciting and I like doing the whole house and seeing how much dust the old one was missing.

So today I will obviously be testing out the new hoover, getting under all the furniture and I have decided that is self care because I am allergic to dust mites lol

Activity!

Very very important.

So walking along the river Severn today until it gets too hot then relaxing in the shade.

BigBertha1 Wed 08-Sept-21 09:43:05

I'm going to have my nails done- first time since the initial lockdown.

henetha Wed 08-Sept-21 10:13:44

Hiding from the thunderstorms forecast for today. Staying home, all windows shut, curtains will be drawn at first sign. It's my one real phobia. sad

Self care? Does an afternoon nap count?

We are going on holiday soon and I've ordered myself a big parcel of books from the Book Depository to take with me - a real treat.
