Help and advice needed please

Ok will try and keep short. Daughter, married for several years . 2 kids, one disabled.
Marriage is effectively over. The house was purchased by the husband and his mother is on the papers as it was a council house purchase.
There is equity in the property, but it’s a 3 way split and I think that would add up to manybe 100 k for her . I have no clue about benefits and she wants to move out and move nearer us. I am not sure what to advise her and plus the kids swapping schools and one child needing a special wchool , high are v difficult to get in. I basically just need any advice to help her and don’t know how .
I can understand that it’s scary making the break, but the marriage is psychologically abusive and not a good situation for the kids. Any help,would be gratefully received. Thanks

Would suggest she makes a query to her local Citizens advice bureau, for a benefits check and other advice. They are usually very well informed about local schools and housing etc

She needs to see a solicitor who specialises in marital breakdown and family law.

I know people shy away because of cost but if your daughter is going to be the main carer, she needs to make sure that the father assumes his proper financial responsibilities rather than rely on benefits.

I have more than one friend who got into financial trouble by thinking they could sort it out amongst themselves 🙁

I agree that the Citizens Advice bureau would be a good place to start. It might be a good Ida to visit the schools to see what’s what, as well.
I wish her luck, both her and her children.

Can you still get free legal aid? I had some when my marriage ended but it was a long time ago.

She definitely needs expert, accurate legal advice, especially as the house is not solely in her name.
