Ageism/sexism in movies

There are so many women actors who are still incredibly sexy well into their 50s (the only reason I say 50s is because they seem to disappear after then) so why not use them? I find it odd and a bit creepy. It happens too often.

Sean Connery also played with Michelle Pfeiffer in Gorky Park I think when he was much older but he still is very very sexy.

Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones were the love interest in Entrapment. He was 69 and she was 30 at the time.

And apparently male box-office draws are paid more than women of the same standing, athough it seems some women are now demanding equal (if not more!) pay.

How anyone could think of Michael Douglas or Harrison Ford as a love interest for younger women defies me, they are good actors but it ends there. Beyond a certain age people just are not as a ttractive. They might look good for their age and if the role demands it that should be enough, you can fall in love at any age I suppose.

It was always so - Anne Bancroft was only 35 when she was cast as the older woman in The Graduate seducing Dustin Hoffman who was 28!

I remember Jennifer Ehle as highly sexy Calypso in The Camomile Lawn its hard to believe she has lost it. I think Colin Firth is showing the years a bit but he remains the best snogger on film.

As to the rest Michael Douglas and Harrison Ford are always cast as sex magnets whereas Meryl Streep and Glen Close now have to be hard nosed business harridans although they both act these men off the stage.
