Which adverts make you mad?

We're doing some research again on advertising and how over 50s are misrepresented (if they're featured at all).
Have you seen any particularly bad adverts recently? Or any good ones? Thanks smile

Where do I start, that awful Nicole shirtswinger what ever he name is making ridiculous noises while eating yogurt and the one that she falls over in, those dreadful men in the star mix ad talking like children that really freaks me out! The wayfair advert where Lorraine Kelly is jiggling about. Gladstone Brooks ad,

I hate the jump around advert . I love jumpers and the ' Jump Around ' song( from Mrs Doubtfire ! ) but that girl dancing with the weird arms just freaks me out . Maybe they should have Mrs Doubtfire !

I just find this so corny. Who can afford to surprise their daughter on a flight? Too much money!

DH always says “You women have no shame” when faced with all the ads for incontinence pads, vaginal dryness, stool softeners etc etc.

Most of the adverts irritate me so no way of identifying one.

But just two I must say I like or have made me smile.

The Gillete ad with the "nice" clean shaven young man who shaves because he isnt being ruled or controlled by the thoughts of others and is just " the best a man can get" ( vast improvement on their woke adverts of the past).

The Tetley tea ad with the dog and the cat putting the kettle on when their owner goes out ( rainy day) and the cat tells the dog that he will have to go for a walk in that later etc.

A dog ad I really dislike is that one for a fit bit for a dog! Give me strength. But most ads are pretty dire these days.

Netflix and Prime, to avoid adverts, possibly channel4 and lots of YouTube....
I tried ITV for an hour and gave up.....because of adverts and dumbed down tv

The Rightmove one with bl---y Graham makes me want to throw something!!!! Its on SO often, time after time after time

MarthaB Sat 07-Mar-20 20:19:26

Those blooming SunLife adverts!!

Smileless2012 Sat 07-Mar-20 20:39:20

Any advert encouraging people of a certain age to take out equity release and spend at least some of it their AC.

I would love to see one that suggests blowing the whole lot on a once in a life time holiday.

LullyDully Sat 07-Mar-20 20:52:14

Any ad that reminds me I have to sort out finance for my funeral and all the oldies who are so excited about theirs.

Doodledog Sat 07-Mar-20 20:59:38

There are two at the minute which drive me insane. One is for Pot Noodles and the other for something to do with second hand cars, and both feature someone holding a noooooooooooooooooooooooote until I change channel.

Normally, I screen out adverts - I can just stop listening, but these ones are impossible.

never mind about making me mad- but more like upset and shocked. All the adverts about gambling and money loans for. Sick.

Harris27 Sat 07-Mar-20 21:04:07

June and the funeral plan and the stannah stairlift one cringeworthy!

Doodledog Sat 07-Mar-20 21:06:44

Yes, June and the bloke on the (guaranteed!) over 50 plan is particularly awful.

The all-knowing man telling the little woman what she needs, and her simpering acceptance. I loathe that advert.

Doodledog Sat 07-Mar-20 21:07:58

Oh, and Alan Titchmarch is unlikely to be in a position where he has to save up for his funeral. He must be worth a fortune - do they think we are stupid?

MissAdventure Sat 07-Mar-20 21:12:13

All of the stupid Bingo ads.

Doodledog Sat 07-Mar-20 21:23:26

There is one ad that I really think should be banned (and I am not a 'ban it' type at all), and that is the one with a wordsearch where the answer is stupidly easy, so vulnerable people will be sure to find it. The prize is about £15k, with extra if you can 'solve' another puzzle, and costs up to £12 to enter.

They make a big deal of how the phone call to enter only lasts a minute - harking back to the days when calls were charged by the minute, and the actual cost of the call is in the small print, which might not be easy to read for an elderly person.

The odds must be high, the prize is very low compared to the cost of entry, and IMO the whole thing is very exploitative.

Also, the entry is by telephone, so the organisers will have the number of the entrants, and I'd be surprised if they don't use it to contact them again. It is usually on during programmes such as Poirot, obviously in the hope of targeting an older market.

Just play me all the Lloyds Bank 'Black Horse' adverts on a constant loop! They haven't had a bad one yet, the team behind them deserve every award possible.

Worst - what a deep pool. I especially hate the Maltesers ads aiming to be inclusive of those with disabilities. I do not find a woman simulating a hand job with an ejaculation of Maltesers the slightest bit entertaining, and neither would it be good viewing whatever the ability, age, race or gender of its actors. Not funny, not clever. I hate Parky promoting the over-50s insurance plans. I hate the 'finger-lickin' good' ads for KFC, and not only because of the awful food poisoning they gave me decades ago. I hated this year's John Lewis Edgar ad, message lost somewhere this time (I hated the Elton John one too). I hate adverts with women finding lots of ways to describe their stress incontinence - it happens, again it isn't funny. I hate the Haribo ads with children's voices attached to adult executives. I hate ads with pets using human voices. I hate... far too much, evidently.

I only watch ITV for the 10 o'clock news, because I dislike the BBC's biases. Most of the ads I see apart from that are on Sky Arts or their News channel.

The elderly lady standing on the doorstep of the couple saying she doesn’t have a roast dinner very often these days. For crying out loud cook yourself a dinner woman! They won’t ask you again.

Ninarosa Sat 07-Mar-20 23:17:51

The Tombola bingo ad. As an introvert, all that sociability makes me feel a bit sick and quite anxious.

Scribbles Sat 07-Mar-20 23:25:33

Those wretched talking meerkats

I just logged on again because I remembered this one grin.

It's dreadful, isn't it? Is the ad for instant gravy?

Why is she there? She doesn't know the family, so it must be some sort of charity thing, which isn't really the image that the gravy makers want to put out, surely? And whereas it's a lovely idea to invite someone who is on their own for Sunday lunch, it's not something that gives a positive image of older women.

Hetty58 Sun 08-Mar-20 01:50:29

I despise all of the above and I actively hate the Jane Plan woman (smug bitch) - oh and all the car adverts where they're cruising on an empty mountain road, not stuck in traffic!

Purplepixie Sun 08-Mar-20 02:51:14

I hate just about all of the adverts but who wants to see sanitary pads with blue liquid poured on them? Also the vaginal dryness advert right at teatime! The funeral plans when I've just woke up from my afternoon nap! An insurance plan that gives you a free pen if you sign up with them - bloody whooppeedo!!! The list is endless! Oh an don't get me started on the incontinence pads! Grrrrrrr. Bring me more cake! Night night ?

I agree with most posts on here, all the irritating adverts for tena (particularly the one where a woman says at last shes found some pretty bladder leak underwear and its basically plastic paper pants or whatever and not pretty at all as if it matters... incidentally no adverts for similar mens products. but latest hate is an advert for shampoo showing pretty girl with long hair in a tropical greenhouse with very long hair being shaken around saying with a vile accent saying something like "shake what nature gave ya!" don't remember the shampoo brand might be Herbal essences (sorry HE if not) anyhow apparently endorsed by Kew Gardens and unlikely normal Kew Gardens type sensible woman watching the other lunatic gyrating carried away with love for her hair. Also now you have got me started adverts for thrush cream and bacterial vaginal infections.... just going too far. If women are not making gravy and beingmum they are bleeding or wetting themselves or leaking in some way..... Funny how we get annoyed by adverts but then dont remember the brand. Used to love one years ago for Hamlet cigars with man with a comb over in a photo booth though...
